You have done a great job of working with the horse in front of you. Even though you work with Merlin every day, his mind isn't going to be the same each time. Meaning the "correct" order for Jager isn't the same for Merlin. You are working in the order he needs. THAT is what is important.

Great video and explanations. In many ways it's a lot like dog training. More often than not, it's not what they are doing wrong, it's what we're doing wrong. All animals have different personalities, just like humans and some learn this way and some learn that way. It really helps to know that individual animal personally so we are reading their signals and understanding how they learn and react as an individual. Overall knowledge helps but ultimately it will always boil down to trust between the teacher and student.

Wow! You have done an amazing job! What a difference from the scraggly muddy and terrified horse he was just a few months ago.
My trainer says horses are always learning. She laughs about times earlier in her experience where she did something with a horse unintentionally and then saw it licking and chewing. Noooo!!! Don’t learn that!!! 😂

Wow, your patience has really paid off! I love seeing your more in-depth process on working through this with him, and I think you're doing an amazing job at reading his body behavior. He's come a long way and I hope you're incredibly proud of yourself!

You should GENTLY place their hoofs down after picking- not allow them to hit the cement harshly
Has anyone else mentioned this to you?

Even though I really like the name Merlin, I would have named him Prince, he really looks like one! 😍 😙 😚 👑

You and Merlin are brave little souls, he's so cute what a lover. Would it be easier on his hoof to make him let you put it down easy? Great job!! As long as you live you'll never stop learning and your attitude is fantastic. WOW

You are doing a fantastic job giving these mustangs an opportunity for a new life in a living environment. I also hope to follow your path and be able to rescue in train mustangs for a new life. I am already a huge fan and applaud you for all of your hard work and dedication.

Was he more compliant after smelling the thrush? I wonder if it allowed him to understand what your were doing or why.

You should be so proud that he trusts you enough to do this when he doesn't know what you're doing. You're a great trainer and explain what you're doing so well. All your horses are beautiful. I still love the little parts of Theo you put in.

Great video and advise! Zäna and Nyx both know that a finger pointed at them means they reacted in a way that is not ideal to dangerous. They instantly stop and move their nose away. They then blow out or start licking and chewing before turning back to us. Using body language and looking for body language is key to great communication. Horses communicate in a sort of on-going conversation. So teaching them that we can have consistent body language makes them feel more confident with communicating their wants to us. You continue to inspire us when it comes to training ideas.

That’s a great way to look at it- as an ongoing conversation! 💯
