He made a Bendix. I once made a lathe out of an old record player motor and used that to make small chess pieces for a small chess board I made in middle school.
A bendix is indeed used all around the world. Among its uses are pipe-bending and for tying fencing to posts and many other things.

    • @Stuff_And_Things

@@garymericano The motors in those things spin considerably faster. I used cut up pieces of coat hanger for the tools and sharpened them with a file. pieces of dowel with a small hole drilled in them so I could tap them onto the motor's spindle became the chess pieces. To finish shaping the pieces other than the pawns and the queens I used a hack saw blade and pocket knife. Black walnut and maple stains and a light coat of polyurethane spray and they didn't look half bad.

I’d change the design a little bit. Eliminate the u-shape piece replacing it with a straight piece across then weld another straight piece across at the top of the bend in the u-shape then weld the long hand on the backside that eliminates cutting the tac weld pieces at the top. In doing it this way eliminates all this second operation work and you don’t have to waste time lining up the piece of rebar you want to bend on either side , just slap it in and bend your done.
