Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.
As you noted, Handong is missing and the masked dancer represents her in the choreo. BUT they have performed every song from this and the next album live as OT7, so you can find them if you look for them.
One of the best song's Dreamcatcher I can thank you for discovering Dreamcatcher, I had already heard something about the group but I was never interested in seeing it and as there are few RUclipsrs reacting to the group I never happened to hear it... After seeing your reactions to my favorite group Twice and liking it a lot and realizing that you also had Dreamcatcher I had to finally see it being the best thing I did, thank you very much❤
JiU and Gahyeon oncce attended Twice concert, JiU was being like speechless fan, Gahyeon like a lovey dovey fan. Gahyeon also close to Dahyun, Handong many times having dinner with the Chinese idols including Tzuyu, in the end you'll get into dreamcatcher, in this case, via ASP channel. It's ez bcs dreamcatcher members are friendly, open, and being social butterfly to other idols plus the company don't give restriction (like ive members to other izone members especially those who were in izone: yujin wonyoung, I've heard like company restrictions that them 2 can't meet any ex izone, idk if it stays like that or changed)
I don't have any 'favorite' thing as far as Han Dong content. BUT I think you would love to know that she made her own reaction videos to Dreamcatcher while she was stuck in China (those reaction videos can be found on DC's official channel)! She was so cute of course because she SO WANTED to be there, but couldn't. That whole situation was sad at the time but it turned out to be what I consider 'bitter-sweet' now. The outcome of her having to be self-sufficient while she was sequestered for so long...we got back a WHOLE NEW, confident Dongie. She's just so cool!
For me Dreamcatcher became fully formed with this song and the associated album Dystopia: Tree of Language. What a formidable effort that was. You may want to listen to a their live version from March 26, 2021 at an online concert at MyMusicTaste. It's gorgeous version with a very different arrangement and some of the most intense stares by Siyeon (she's coming for all of us here).
My suggestion to a future HanDong content when you reach part 3 (Odd Eye) of the Dystopia trilogy is to check out the Odd Eye dance video (Dystopia Ver.). A lot of effort have been put into that particular dance video to include HanDong for what she had missed. Also for the b-side of that particular album, check out the "Poison Love" self made MV, where everyone loves HanDong including herself.
For Handong content, this is a bit of a deep cut but if you check out "[Dreamcatcher's VLOG] 수아의 솨생활 : 북미 투어 5편 (ENG)", it's a vlog by Sua, and you may notice it's 30 minutes long. That's because the majority of the vlog is Sua and Handong just sitting in their hotel room during a US tour, talking and eating hotdogs. She's just very comfortable, and allows her "ice princess" persona to slip a little. It's hard to describe, but that vlog felt like a turning point for Handong, in some ways. It's very special.
Nice analysis as always. For additional Handong content, I would suggest "Return of the Ice Queen" by Kpop Watafak. It's a nice little documentary about Handongs absence and the reactions and feelings of the Members during her Chinese adventures. But be aware, tears will fall :)

Handong material: After you finish Boca and Odd Eye, there is a Dystopia version special clip of Odd Eye that, without spoilers, is VERY cathartic for people who were missing Handong. There is a Suit version of Scream. It doesn't add anything musically or with choreo but... they're in suits. So I thought I'd mention it.
One thing to pay attention to with the MVs in the Dystopia series is the levels of technology in relation to the members and, most especially, the tree. These aren't perfectly opaque due, I would guess, to both budget constraints and creative choices (making shots look cool is going to be a higher priority than making them legible in relation to the story), but there is a progression across the three MVs.
If you listen carefully...You can hear LEEZ's & Siyeon's voice at the background almost the entire song...including LEEZ rapping together with Gahyeon & Dami...
The obvious Dongie content to cover while she's missing from the next few comebacks is her solo debut, First Light Of Dawn, that she recorded when she was stuck in China. Her Chinese management company released it around the time she was able to return to Korea. There is a lyric video "Handong (韩东) - Dawn (曙光) (Chi-Pinyin-Eng Lyrics)' at the Alyrics RUclips channel. She went to China to participate in Youth With You Season 2, and you can find 2 videos of her in early group performances on that show on the Youth With You RUclips. They're not bad, but for your purposes, I'd probably go with other suggestions for Handong content over reacting to them. I watched the whole series so that you don't have to. She got VERY little screen time, and was eliminated in the second round of eliminations in Ep. 16 of 23 coming in 56th. She did have an interview in the show where she stated very explicitly that she was not satisfied only being a subvocalist in Dreamcatcher. And that could have been entirely producer prompted (but I suspect there was some truth there). Of course, in the subsequent 4 years, Dreamcatcher way out performed the group formed by Youth With You 2, THE9, by any metric you'd care to pick - THE9 was pretty much one and done (well, one debut and three comebacks) disbanding by the end of 2021. But more important, of course, everyone in Dreamcatcher really did miss her and she really did miss them. I think the misadventure back home in China did help her embrace her role in Dreamcatcher, and, of course, she like all the rest quietly re-signed well before the contract was up.
Some key points to help you with your theory crafting... The Tree = The Tree of Language (reference the album title), aka the internet. Masks = internet anonymity. Key message = bullying, cyber bullying, hate speech and modern day witch hunts (i.e. the hate trains that form for little to no reason). Insomnicsy 's series on SuA and handong live, especially "SuA and Handong invade Yoohyeon 's Live" and "SuA and Handong live part 3". DC were on tour in the US, and SuA and Handong were roommates.
Main dancer role in some groups is like a waste sometimes, I like in this Scream they have long dance break with SuA in center. Especially sandwiched between the two power vocal members. Siyeon started "I just wanna make you scream", dance break going crazy with center SuA, then followed by Yoohyeon in lyrics line. Btw if I remember correctly, in Scream, Handong given JiU's first prechorus and SuA's sword part. At least. If more I think it's Yoohyeon's last part before closed by JiU. I feel kinda bittersweet for the SuA's sword part bcs visually it's iconic to SuA. But I understand, in production PoV, Handong's best line positions are first vocal after first chorus, prechorus, and bridge.
Been waiting for you to get to TTOL album. After seeing one of your shorts talk about the LOTR MTG set I was really hoping you would have commented on SuA's sword in the Scream MV. As far as Handong content I feel it's only fitting to watch the OT7 performances of the TTOL songs, since they hit noticeably different with her.

everytime i listen to Scream and Boca it hurts my feelings because they are among my favorite Dreamcatcher songs but Handong is not there so i feel guilty ... what i do after that to feel better about myself is i listen to Deja vu, personally and i think most of Insomnia will agree that Handong " holding this pain " part is the best part and it's iconic . also listening to Poison love is a good advice to feel better after Scream ^^

It's their first full album, and for me, it's the BEST ALBUM EVER 🤩 Since it's the Tree of Language, I think the red/orange texts in the Jiu scene are from within that tree, and illustrates the things people are saying. The crystal that shatters in the Gahyeon scene might be the heart of the tree. I'm sure someone will explain to you about the See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, but to me, it's more interesting that: Scream = past Boca = present Odd Eye = future For Handong content... 🤔... I can't think of much tbh. She has her solo's of course, and recently, I've rewatched her chemistry videos from insomniczy (videos about the chemistry between 2 members). And I'm not sure if you're all caught up with the This Is series.

I'm really looking forward to your next reactions and analysis for the next parts in the trilogy coz I honestly think this is their best trilogy of all time, the way it's building up (music-wise and story-wise) actually flows quite well with each other despite some of its aspects. Also reacting to the dance practice would definitely be a blast! There's gonna be a lot of interesting formations & imagery within the choreo, and also coz this comeback is when Hwang Sooyeon decided to add backup dancers for Dreamcatcher's choreography for the first time since debut (and in the future as well). For contents of Handong, these are mostly from insomnicsy but afaik there are: - handong being dreamcatcher's favourite child - handong vs the korean language (parts 1 to 3) - quiet, Dongie is speaking - welcome to handong's live videos (mostly her with 1 or 2 members, you can easily see them in the "welcome to ___ live" playlist) - and handong's chemistry with other members (could also be seen in the chemistry series playlist) edit: i forgot but also handong the supreme pervert 😅 And an honorable mention from Driim: - Dongie being Dongie - Dongie's reaction to ✨things✨
