Sun n Fun 2: HIGH approach into Chattanooga

  • Part 2 of our Sun n Fun adventure! We continue our first leg from Chicago Aurora Airport (ARR) to Chattanooga, Tennessee (CHA). We discuss some of our upcoming plans for Sun n Fun and shoot an interestingly high approach into CHA that required a 360 on short final so I could get down. This was caused by me relying on the Garmin GNS530W VNAV that was displaying an inaccurate vertical speed required for the initial approach fix because we weren't aimed directly at it. This has been resolved by our new GPS upgrade to a much more capable unit. Stand by for that. :)

    Wow I could not see those runway lights till the last second. This is why I dont fly lol and having only one eye is not great either. I am so night blind but getting older (61) things do wear out and stop working. This is why I so appreciate you both for allowing me to be in the cockpit with you guys. You are such an inspiration.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 лет назад

      Glad to take you along with us Thomas! A large part of that is the cameras don't do well with low light. It was actually still dusk when we landed but they made it look darker. Sometimes the runways are dimmer than the surrounding lights and that makes picking them out a bit difficult at times.

      @@310Pilot I usually plan 4 cruises a year and this year is booked. December ends hurricane season so Jan-May are great times and I would suggest a souther Caribbean that would go to Grand Turk, Dominican Republic, Curacao and Aruba. That is my favorite but if you have favorite islands that nac be figured out. I only do Carnival as I know many if not all the cruise directors and many of the other crew members. I also know John Heald the brand ambassador to Carnival Cruise Line. I always cruise solo as I have had bad luck with women who have cleaned me out and taken advantage so I video the shows and take tons of pictures. I always have the best time. If you are into beaches or snorkling or scuba or any other excursions they are available. However there is nothing like what you guys do by flying into the islands and have the beach all to yourselves. That is awesome if you are with someone. As I travel along I have befriended the performers (singers and dancers in the shows. Great folks. Just let me know. It would be incredible.

    I really enjoy y'all's videos. As an aviation novice, I've finally figured out the difference between Rnav (radio navigation, VOR/dme, ect.) and GPS navigation. Slowly but surely... PS my T-shirt arrived. 👍

    • @Gilles45

      Lars Courville RNAV is GPS navigation... RNAV = GPS navigation...

    • @LarsCourville

      @Gilles45 5 лет назад

      Lars Courville RNAV does not stand for "Radio navigation"... RNAV is purely satellite based.... it is part of the radio navigation "family", the other members being land based, VOR, NDB, ILS... But I understand that the acronym RNAV can be a bit confusing...

    • @Gilles45
      @Gilles45 5 лет назад

    Did all my vfr night training in/out of that airport. Returning once from CMI (Champaign) to CNI (Cherokee Co. GA) we stopped in Chattanooga. That airport sits in a "black hole" and is not easy to find on visual at night. Go Gamecocks!

      Looks like a fun/great place to learn. I can see how it would have that black hole effect. I was there just at dusk (cameras make it look a bit darker) and didn't want to slam dunk it being that high and not familiar. Thought the 360 would be the best course of action. Go Dawgs!! :)

      310 Pilot I can’t wait to see it this week. I’m guessing that it’s a lot different flying into a busy airport vs controlling a busy airspace as ATC. She’s cool as a cucumber as a controller. She was so calm on the video where she was your controller. Either that or your flying scares her. 😂😂😂

    Excellent video, Kevin. I'm sure you and Jamie had a great time at Sun-n-Fun.
    A little geez whiz information: when you were monitoring Memphis ATC, I heard N10EC check in ... N10EC is registered to the State of Tennessee.
    The registration number N10EC when read back is "Tenn - e - see", hence N10EC.
    Clever, huh?

      Both Kevin and Jaime should be aware of this, but the State of Illinois has two King Airs, N981LL and N991LL. They used to fly from SPI into CGX a lot before it was plowed under. We always (as did they) call them 98 Illinois and 99 Illinois.

    Really great video, Kevin. As I said in the last video, you two are just normal down-to-earth folks, who happen to own your own plane. I love that you and Jaime engaged in normal conversations while flying, just as though you were both driving down the highway in your car, or just setting in your living room having a conversation. I was wondering why Jaime was just constantly messing with her mike when she would speak. The sound was good, via the video, but she was constantly pushing it up to her mouth to talk. It makes sense now why she was doing that, because the mike was actually turned away from her mouth. You must have been hearing that in your headsets. I got tickled when you said that you “feel useless” in the cockpit, because of the new autopilot system. You’re a typical “stick and rudder” guy, which is not a bad thing, and you’re still getting used to the autopilot. But, as Jaime said, you’re there to be able to handle things when there is a problem. Good job on that high approach situation, and final landing. you always seem to do really nice and smooth landings. Thanks, again, for sharing your journey with us. Look forward to seeing the rest of the journey. Until the next video, Happy Flying, and Safe Landings.

      Thank you Richard for the kind words and continued support! What you see is what you get with us. We just talk normally and deal with the rest on the editing. Glad to have the darn mic issue resolved....for free at that. :) I for sure am a stick and rudder guy but have transitioned nicely into monitoring the STEC do its thing. It's much more safer, less fatiguing and gives me more time to talk with Jaime. Some fun videos coming up when we fly into the beehive. :)
