What’s even MORE interesting is that “goth” mirrors original gothic style (think Dark Ages), but original gothic style actually included a lot of rich colors and not the black we think of now. When people hear “goth” they associate it with black, but traditional gothic style is very different. Loving this type of content, as an alt/emo chick that lives in black lol 🖤
Yes 🙌🏼 I wish I had let myself spend more time on the research part, I was nervous it would be too long because there was sooooo much I wanted to include but I think next time I’ll give it more time to really discuss more about the style im talking about! ❤️
The black clothing of the Goth Scene is much more inspired by the mourning and death theme. For centuries in Europe it is tradition to wear black If you loose a loved one. It is also an option that the mostly black of the Goth clothing is a sign to make a difference to the bright colours of the disco movement and to set a border against the normal everyday life in the 80s.
Alexa opening a goth themed mystery box, whilst wearing an outfit that can only be described as Strawberry Shortcake Chic, is everything I needed on this Sunny Sunday!
I really appreciate that you did some research for this and didn't just go for some halloween costume caricature version of what non-goth people think of as goth. Thank you for treating a subculture that isn't your own with some respect. ( "goth" as a tag on instagram and tiktok is very misused to the point it's hard to find real goth content. - you end finding a lot of nsfw onlyfans content instead of music events!) Goth fashion and goth music has some subcategories too (traditional goth, industrial goth, romantic goth, pastel goth, nugoth, etc) and I would definitely place you in the 'romantic goth" style. Long before this video, you already have confessed your love of velvet, flowy dresses, corsets and puffy sleeves. The name for people who like the fashion but not the music is "darkly inclined" and you might have a little dark inclination in you!
shoutout to the depop seller for making the mystery boxes so customized!! like they made sure you were getting clothes that would fit and might be something you’d actually wear!
I think Sunshine is in your personality and doesn't change no matter what you wear. I love your strawberry sweater. I always admire it from your clothing rack.
I'm pausing this vid a few minutes in just to say, I'm not exactly goth (alternative I guess?), and I've never seen anything from this channel before, but your respect of goth history and culture and your sweet demeanor are so endearing that I'm going to subscribe before you even open the box. 🖤
Both of the dresses are amazing pieces and look great on you. The corset is the most amazing piece wow. Also crazy props to the girl selling the mystery box for putting so much thought into the box and giving some styling ideas for the items.
Okay, I know I already commented but I would love to see how you would style these pieces using your own wardrobe and your own style because I guess I saw their vision but I love the way you style yourself and I think the pieces would look better separated.
yes I agree that her own styling looked better than following the seller's styling notes. Alexa has quite a few things that can mix well with these new pieces in the video. Leather pants, leather skirt, leather jacket, lots of chunky boots. corsets, black puffy sleeved blouses, even some of her dark academia stuff can be mixed with goth.
I really appreciate the intro on what's Goth and linking articles. Thanks for acknowledging we are an actual subculture and not treating as just as an aesthetic. You got really nice pieces btw :)
I love that you're not afraid to try new things. Life is way too short to stick to just one style! This was such a fun video. The pieces look great on you
As a goth, I liked your research. Additionally I would like to mention that our fashion is based in the victorian era and as goth developed from punk also we have punk influences. There are different subgenres of gothic fashion and also gothic music that developed since the early 80s, usually the fashion is also based on the type of music, but I know so many goths who dress in the whole range, one day more in victorian style clothing and the next with short leather skirt and fishnet tights or even with industrial influences. I liked your research a lot, you mentioned where the word "Goth" and "Gothic" came from. Not many people mention the architecture, which we goths adore! I knew a lot of goths from Australia who love to visit Europe, as we have cathedrals with the typical gothic architecture. Also the very old graveyards with this typical type of construction. So thank you for that! I didn't like how the outfits were paired. Also I personally don't like the blouse as its not even white and we goths usually avoid creme or champain as colour theme, but there are some that use that colours too, so its only my personal opinion. The best things I think personally are the sheer long dress and the metal belt, which I would pair together with a very tight shorts and a black mesh top underneath, for the accessories: silver rings with onyx stones, and a rosary for the neck. Ah and also black bulk boots from demonia, but short ones.
This gave me late 90s/early 2000s gothic nostalgia 🖤🥀 movies like Van Helsing, Interview with the Vampire, and Sleepy Hallow pop in my head when I think of this aesthetic.

I've been watching your videos for a few years now and as a goth who loves to thrift, I thought it was so neat to see you learn a bit about the goth community and try out some cute goth fashion! 🖤
Unrelated: I really appreciate that you credited the channel banner creator the description. I’ve seen bigger RUclipsrs not doing that when they deserve exposure/credit for the work.
I’m so impressed that you actually learned about the subculture before making this video! However the barbarians have absolutely no correlation to the current subculture they just happen to share a name. The term goth from the current subculture was coined by Joy Divisions producer during an interview when describing the band, and gothic refers only to architecture and literature
I just bought a french cuff blouse recently and got two sets of cuff links at the thrift store for a dollar a ser. It is so chic and fun! I love that blouse. It would look cool under the corset too.
Loved the discussion of Goth subculture! A lot of styles have those music and counterculture connections and have a whole history! Also wow you got some great pieces!
Honestly one of the most respectful, well informed summaries of the gothic genre by someone outside the lifestyle. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone nail it as much as you. So simple yet so powerful. Thank you.
You got some beautiful pieces in that mystery box! You can get some cheap foam insoles to help the black shoes fit better, if you decide to keep them. Thank you for trying one of my favorite styles!
Although you say this isn't your personal style, I actually think it's not a million miles away from it! It doesn't look out of place on you at all and although I know you tend to wear a lot of colour, pastels, jeans etc, the cut of the clothes they sent you and the vintage feel is actually quite close to some of the outfits you style from your thrifted pieces! This is a really wearable version of Goth, in some ways very much like the Goth styles I used to wear in the 90s as a teenager - layering vintage style pieces, slip dresses, corsets, long skirts etc - very Tim Burton / Bram Stoker's Dracula / Madonna in her Like A Prayer phase! You look amazing in the outfits and even if you wouldn't necessarily go for a full goth look you can totally style these pieces with other things in your wardrobe.
The velvet bodice with the red skirt and the silver belt would look amazing on you. I’m surprised that wasn’t already an outfit option. Try styling it that way if you still have the pieces and see how you like it, you can throw a sheer lace cardigan over it. 🤘🏻🖤
These are great! As a goth I can really appreciate this haul. I especially like the second slip dress, how the lace goes over the hips is so pretty! Thank you for sharing this.
Just know I love you. Thank you so much for bringing to light that goth isn’t a style but really music, not many understand this so I was happy to hear your research!
Seeing you wearing this style is so interesting! it completely changes how you are perceived. Everything looked so perfect on you and you looked like a trendy, gothic librarian. Plus, these outfits were major outfit inspo.

The first outfit is giving 90’s office mom goth. I think it’s the weird suede heels. The 3rd outfit would have been amazing with boots or sandals instead. Very Star from The Lost Boys
Alexa that lacy dress is INCREDIBLE. You look so amazing in it! I know it's probably really outside of your comfort zone, but you pull it off really well!!!
As a goth, I really appreciate the research you did and the disclaimer about the subculture you did. Not only that but also the respect you have for the subculture. This is super interesting to see, thank you!
The long dress outfit is actually so pretty!!! So many good pieces here! And thank you for talking about how important goth music is in the subculture! 💓
Thank you for including the description of it being a music culture and not being a goth, because you bought a box of clothes. I really appreciated that. I would have much preferred if they had included an old band t-shirt or a plain graphic t-shirt that carries the aesthetic, like a skull or similar, without bringing in an unrelated theme.
This is definitely one of favorite mystery box you've done. I love the dresses, the skirt, the blouse, and LA PERLA. Im not really into Goth but hmm today you have changed my mind. Will be experimenting soon.
That second outfit with the corest is honestly one of my favourite looks you've done ever (in my opinion) you look fab in everything but the whole outfit suited you so well! Xx
I just have to say how much I LOVE this video. Honestly, I haven’t seen one of your videos in the longest time, I’ve had a lot of personal stuff go down and I just haven’t gotten around to it not to mention I haven’t been inspired lately by the thrift store, but this video has gotten me so excited to go hardcore thrifting like I used to, it’s gotten me so excited about my closet again, my accessories and it’s really just given me the inspiration and uplift that I needed. thank you for actually researching the culture first!! lots of videos like this experimenting w the fashion spread a lot of misinfo about the subculture, so the extra effort is appreciated :)
Black and maroon go great with your hair color, and you look superb with dark eyes and lips, bravo! About the Goth aesthetic, it can go beyond music, it is a play of dark and light forces, the uncanny, and the sublime. You presented some good references in literature, which is the other main field besides music. I hope you get to read them or listen to them in an audiobook 🖤🐈⬛🦇
i would love to see you style the pieces from the mystery boxes in day to day ware!! i oulways wonder how you would fit them in and style them yourself.❤️
This was a great explanation of goth, and how you're viewing yourself wearing goth clothes! A good tip is the difference between calling yourself goth, and calling your style gothIC. Gothic is like the aesthetic, but referring to yourself as Goth is the term for the subculture, if this makes sense!
I literally always see this strawberry sweater in the back of your videos I’m obsessed with it it’s giving me an abnormal amount of satisfaction to see you wearing it
I absolutely love how you did research on the topic and style instead of just going off of stereo types or what you thought it was, because I seen videos and have had first hand experience with people saying, omg that looks goth or that's emo (thinking that that's horrible that its goth/emo/alt) , without it actually being goth or emo. Plus I know a lot of people who hate goth/emo/alt/scene/punk styles bc they remind them of bad habit and disgusting people, aka my parents who think that if I'm goth I'll start doing drugs and become insane. When its really not like that. So I like how you did your research try to get an understanding and not offend someone in the community. Plus I like how you think the goth community is good and not evil, unlike some people (and I mean ofc I'm sure some "alt/goth/emo" people maybe don't have the best intentions but obviously you can't say one whole race/culture/style or anything in general is truly bad or truly good because it's always going to be diverse) and I also love how your still going to try to implement the clothing into your regular style or just use it in videos, it brings joy to my heart that you aren't waisting the clothes after filming one video. And I'm definitely going to check out some of your other videos because you seem like a genuinely great person 😄😄.
i love these videos of you trying new styles!! i think one of the reasons you maybe felt you couldnt pull these specific looks off tho is because you havent explored layering oversized things or layering in general much. and i think that layering look is what the seller was going for. i thought all the outfits looked sooo good on you but you were uncomfy and tried to make it less that aesthetic for your comfort level which obv is valid but i think confidence would really make you love these trying on different style videos even more
Ok this is normally it at All the content I would come to RUclips for but I was scrolling and the opening jingle happened and it made me so happy. So now I must see everything she's ever made ever.
As a life long goth, I really appreciate and love your dedication to the research! You didn't spread any misinformation and I hope this video helps baby bats find true goth communities and music! Thank you so much for being a responsible content creator. I love seeing "outsiders" trying new styles and experimenting. It makes me so happy to share the beautifully spooky world of Goth 🦇💀❤️
This style suited you much better than I thought it would. You rocked the first look, even the low belt looked great. Probably you'd feel more comfortable with a different belt, though it was so flattering worn low like that. The corset top was great, and I liked your version with the blouse tucked. The long dress and the shorts were lovely and looked good on you, you'll just have to experiment to find what you like. The button-has potential, I think you could rock it with the right equipment. Try the brass tone belt in it maybe. I agree with you 100% on the long sleeved t-shirt. 😝
The corset is worth the most in the box, and the lace items are very nice. However, being Goth myself, I don't think the jewelry is quality and doesn't appeal to me. The belt is more southwestern, but it can be worn with Goth. You can always find, if you want to, similar clothes at thrift stores for much less money. I'm glad you are happy with this box though :)
I was worried the minute I saw the aggressive attack shirt, I recently fell down a hole looking at white supremacist t shirts and found out lots of companies that sell them also sell regular “gothy” shirts like this! It’s so unfair because if people buy it secondhand they have no idea what they’re wearing and think it’s just a cool t shirt.
*I feel like I should clarify I wasn’t SHOPPING for white supremacist t shirts! Just looking at what symbols they use to make sure I never accidentally thrift them after seeing something about a girl accidentally selling one on Depop
@@francescamiller1340 if you have a general list or just a few big brands that come to mind it would be cool if you could share them! I also don’t want to accidentally wear something like that

OH YES i have been SOOOO EXCITED for this one!!!
Same!
Black and maroon go great with your hair color, and you look superb with dark eyes and lips, bravo! About the Goth aesthetic, it can go beyond music, it is a play of dark and light forces, the uncanny, and the sublime. You presented some good references in literature, which is the other main field besides music. I hope you get to read them or listen to them in an audiobook 🖤🐈⬛🦇
that second outfit was to die for!! loved it!! & also loved the way you framed this with some background and such
i would love to see you style the pieces from the mystery boxes in day to day ware!! i oulways wonder how you would fit them in and style them yourself.❤️
This was a great explanation of goth, and how you're viewing yourself wearing goth clothes! A good tip is the difference between calling yourself goth, and calling your style gothIC. Gothic is like the aesthetic, but referring to yourself as Goth is the term for the subculture, if this makes sense!
This is hands down the best mystery box I've ever seen! I might purchase from them for fall!
Just casually glossed over the vintage designer piece I’m so jealous
I absolutely love your aesthetic mystery box videos, can u pls do soft girl next
The v neck lace dress is awesome! I love this box
*Excluding the shirt. Bummer because it’s cool looking, but I wouldn’t wear it out either. I’d feel icky.
Geeze I went on a rant sorry that's so long to read.
i love these videos of you trying new styles!! i think one of the reasons you maybe felt you couldnt pull these specific looks off tho is because you havent explored layering oversized things or layering in general much. and i think that layering look is what the seller was going for. i thought all the outfits looked sooo good on you but you were uncomfy and tried to make it less that aesthetic for your comfort level which obv is valid but i think confidence would really make you love these trying on different style videos even more
The 2nd outfit with the shirt tucked is SO good
Outfits 5 and 6 gave me Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless) especially with your blonde hair🖤
I love the second and the fourth outfit and your cat is so cute
Ok this is normally it at All the content I would come to RUclips for but I was scrolling and the opening jingle happened and it made me so happy. So now I must see everything she's ever made ever.
oh my goodness that is so kind 😭
As a life long goth, I really appreciate and love your dedication to the research! You didn't spread any misinformation and I hope this video helps baby bats find true goth communities and music! Thank you so much for being a responsible content creator. I love seeing "outsiders" trying new styles and experimenting. It makes me so happy to share the beautifully spooky world of Goth 🦇💀❤️
love that concho belt, definitely giving y’allternative
This style suited you much better than I thought it would. You rocked the first look, even the low belt looked great. Probably you'd feel more comfortable with a different belt, though it was so flattering worn low like that.
The corset top was great, and I liked your version with the blouse tucked.
The long dress and the shorts were lovely and looked good on you, you'll just have to experiment to find what you like. The button-has potential, I think you could rock it with the right equipment. Try the brass tone belt in it maybe.
I agree with you 100% on the long sleeved t-shirt. 😝
Loved the fact that you introduced the concepts🖤🖤
Love it. I think you should pair the shirt dress with the shorts and one of the belts.
Love the thrift store mystery box videos! And props to you for looking up the company behind that last long sleeve top and deciding not to wear it
The corset is worth the most in the box, and the lace items are very nice. However, being Goth myself, I don't think the jewelry is quality and doesn't appeal to me. The belt is more southwestern, but it can be worn with Goth. You can always find, if you want to, similar clothes at thrift stores for much less money. I'm glad you are happy with this box though :)
The first outfit is gorgeous on you! You wear it very well and you look beautiful!
I thought this shirt was by "black helmet", a company that makes clothes for firefighters? Am I missing something?
@@francescamiller1340 if you have a general list or just a few big brands that come to mind it would be cool if you could share them! I also don’t want to accidentally wear something like that
@@Ivuxoxo I’d like to know too.
@@sarahmorgan5686 I’m so confused too…it’s literally a firefighting clothing brand founded by a firefighter.
