Hi kilo. Could you make a video for duplicating a kw10 key with kw1 blank and vice versa? And to make it even more interesting, you can use the lishi key cutter and see how it does.
Yeah, I'll see what I can with that! I have heard this question recently from another subscriber, the main difference on those 2 keys is the bottom shoulder length. But, I will definitely try and throw a video together on that!
I'll will try and practice more cutting KW1's with the Lishi before I make anymore promises for this tool as you see using it was just so odd haha - Kilo
I'm a home hobbyist, I have never used a duplicating or other key cutting machine.
I have one of the same Lishi hand cutting tools.
Using the same method as you I have cut a few keys and all have worked.
I can copy a key clamped to a blank in a matter of minutes now.
Using space and depth keys I have managed to originate keys from code without issue as well. It takes longer due to swapping the space and depth keys over.
The keys I have cut have all been Lockwood LW4/5 keys with Schlage style cuts, depth and spacing. Taking a file to the key after cutting cleans it up quickly and allows the cuts to be widened easily.
As a novice I have found it easy to do the cutting I have done with the Lishi tool. Whilst my keys function they look hand cut and a few take a little jiggle to work due to imprecise cuts.
I'm looking forward to getting a mechanical cutting machine in the future.
Yeah! Punch Machines are even great to pickup! They are very accurate and your hands won't be filled with key shavings haha
This cutter was hard to do a KW1, but this was my first and only attempt at even trying. The Kwikset cuts are wide!
If I practiced this like 20 times beforehand, I am sure I could've made it look clean and smooth...
But, then I wouldn't get to show you guys the struggle lol, it looks like it would cut Schlage's a lot easier.
I just wouldn't try and rely on this as my only duplicator... the chance of failure is so high in the field.
For a duplicator, the little Silca Flash 008 you see in some of my videos is an absolute beast!
@@LockandKilo I would never dream of using the hand tool for commercial purposes. If I got a key that looks like my best work with the lishi hand tool from someone charging money I would be unimpressed.
I like the look of the silca punch machine but I think my budget will stretch as far as a cheap Chinese duplicator.
I have no current plans to cut keys commercially though. If I did then I'd look to pick up a reputable duplicator.
With space and depth keys and a gauge it seems easy (if time consuming) to create good copies with a duplicator of any sort.
@@bleepbloopblahp My advice on buying key machines... wait until a holiday lol, suppliers always sell them wayyyy cheaper during holiday weeks and weekends.
I bought my HPC 1200 Punch Machine for $1100 new during a Thanks Giving/Black Friday style sale!
The Silca Flash duplicator I have I got for around $350 new during a similar sale. I wait for those types of weeks before I make big investments like that lol
The cheaper duplicators tend to have belt issues sometimes, so check reviews on those off-brands. You can break belts on them after about 30 keys sometimes.
@@LockandKilo Thanks for the tips. I'm not sure they apply here in Australia. At the prices you are talking I'd be better off getting into selling key cutters than selling cut keys!
I've only been able to find a couple of suppliers for brand name key duplicators.
A Silca 008 Flash goes for $2000 dollary doos or about $1500 Freedom bucks.
HPC Blitz 1200B is $7700 AUD
We don't get the sort of sales you are talking about from suppliers here.
I can buy a Chinese DEFU 368A duplicator for a few hundred bucks. That's just an example and I wouldn't necessarily get that model.

I have managed to cut copies of my house keys with it so far and even though 1 needed a little filing (less than yours did) it came out fine, although not machine-cut quality. Next I want to copy my car keys. It's a fascinating tool for someone like me who doesnt want to have to go out and get copies made.
Yeah, this was a first attempt at actually duplicating a key and doing it through a camera was weird lol
With enough practice someone could in theory make some solid copies for themselves! It could get tiring if a client asked for like 30 copies and this is all someone had tho lol
I would like to see you impression a pin and tumbler lock with the lishi

@@LockandKilo I use the lishi to duplicate keys all the time, I check it with a key gauge before trying it out. Ain't pretty but it works. but I'm a hobbist not a working locksmith in the field
@@edkeel5007 Yeah, looking back on it if I wasn't trying this through a camera it would've looked cleaner lol
I only use it to impression keys, but for a duplicator I wouldn't rely on it in the field. Time consuming, most of the time clients will ask for multiple copies and you never want a call back and want to limit waste.
As a hobbyist I would say it would be decent to use if you didn't have a duplicator. Maybe it'll grow on me if I keep at it haha, but just some of the questions I got seemed to be asking if this would work UNTIL they buy a duplicator, I would say no to a Locksmith, but for a hobbyist it's up to you really. You won't call yourself back in a day or 2 if the key is acting funny! - Kilo
I’ve always used mine on keys for wafer/ disc tumbler locks and the old vintage Schlage 707 locks that used the SC22 key blanks. I still come across those in our outlying towns…
Just barely managed to pull it off lol, but ya did it!P.S. Even though it appears that it would make perfect cuts for an SC1 key, given the fact that the pins are flat(And not beveled like Kwikset ones), I have doubts that it would make the cuts precise enough to allow for operation of the lock
Haha yeah, I didn't think it would even work tbh. I just wanted to try it out real time to show those who asked how it works lol
I am sure if I try a few more keys I could probably make it work decently, I also was doing this through a camera so my cuts were angled more than they would've been if I was focused better.
I am not sure about the Schlage part.. it looks like it would possibly work out in a pinch. I haven't used this tool on the standard common style keys like KW1 or SC1 prior to this question being asked, it's mostly my impression tool.
I'll try and compare it with the 'Schlage' punch and dye on the HPC Machine later on and see how close it is, because that one cuts a perfect key. I'll let you know when I do! - Kilo
Coppied a Schlage works great made 4 of them.

Your right it’s not as practical but practice does make perfect can it be done? Yes, will it be perfect the first time? No it won’t.
There is also a duplicator on the market a Chinese one that’s a manual crank one too and power cord.
So nothing is perfect since it’s an art form, less than a week ago I was bored at night and went through my box of Weiser’s and started picking them with my sparrows ranger set and my EOD lite and Dark Shift expansion set and I grabbed up a lock I had trouble with 2 years ago my ex’s cable bike lock from Kryptonite it has a Yale style key way, raked it and than got it open with the offset hybrid so all things just take time.
Now the question is will I be able to do it as smoothly later? Only time will tell.
I did like the idea of flaming a key and using a piece of scotch tape to make an impression of the profile and how people have cut it on plastic and aluminum foil to get into a lock.
But with all things time will tell.
Yeah, like I was telling Lokpikr999, this was a first attempt through a camera, so that definitely played a massive role in my cuts. If I was looking directly at the key I feel I could've made those cuts a lot cleaner lol
I agree that practice will always make you better regardless of what you are trying to perform, I am sure someone out there can make this look easy with enough attempts at it. I could probably practice this enough times with the same KW1 and record it again and make it look like a 4 minute task.
I wanted to do it this way to show someone the real side of something like this, I was going to practice it, but I felt if I did then someone watching might think it's some magic tool as opposed to seeing the learning curve.
I have never tried to cut out a profile from plastic or metal before, I use the flame technique only on Bit/Barrel keys mostly. That sounds like it wouldn't be the most accurate way, but similar to this video or impressioning, it just has to work close enough and then I could code cut the key.
I might toy with that idea one day.
@@LockandKilo There are locksport channels who try to do the editing magic and make it look easy this is why I don’t edit mine and have it in a certain video style.
It looks not as clean or well lit but I only my own lights to work with nothing fancy.
Time will always tell with everything even when it comes to people. And your subscribers number is climbing.

@@BelmontClan I just got this message and threw this video together, afterwards I only saw 1 other video similar but, I haven't watched it yet.
My editing skills are not the best yet, so I only really mess with thumbnails or cut out customers or phone calls haha.. but, I am working on it.
I saw the sub count seems to be rolling!!! I do have the giveaway prize ready to go, I hinted at it in one of the previous videos before this one. But, at 250 subs I will post a video on what it will be!

I usually watch a few live streams of people gaming on Facebook and occasionally put the word out about my channel but I also make observations about the games too.
Diversity in my potential audience and draw them in, sometimes it brings in a few people and they subscribe other times they watch a few of my videos.
@@BelmontClan Yeah, I am working on a plan for a new method of entering the giveaways now that the sub count is higher. Got a few ideas in the works, going to at least throw a video out there at 250 to let people get a head start on it tho!
I have no clue how the sub count grew so fast other than 4 of my videos, #1, #7, #8 and #16 all brought me most of the count that YT Analytics show me. RUclips threw me into their algorithm I guess with those ones haha
Thanks for showing off the limitations of this attractive looking option to a real key machine. I think I'll stick to files for the rare times I am trying to impression or dupe a key. Mine look crummy, but they work. If I want perfect, I'll run down the street to my friendly local locksmith (I am not a fan of big box key centers... just sayin' )
For impressioning some keys this works amazingly. But, it takes a lot of practice to eyeball the cuts.
For this example it shows it's limitations for PT locks like Kwikset. If I spent a lot of time perfecting it I could probably make them look clean, but those double cuts on multiple keys would get annoying lol
I mostly use this cutter for impressioning wafer locks, vehicles, mail boxes etc..
Should’ve held the keys up against the edge of your work bench
