Our choir sang this tune recently and I felt like we were delivering precious jewels to the audience. We didn't hold onto the words like we owned them but, rather, sang these words like something we'd borrowed and were told to keep in good shape! It was a marvelous feeling.
I recently became introduced to this beautiful piece thru my church choir. It's rare simplicity and melodic beauty still resonates. And to know that Michael Dennis Brown , whom I knew briefly at the University of Iowa as a graduate student in the Vocal Music Dept. , wrote the lyrics, made this an even greater thrill to sing. Composer and lyricist are perfectly combined. Bravo!
