Even tho I don't drink coffee I was chosen to set up this coffee machine for my family coffee lovers. Very helpful and....loving pure Scottish accent! Thank you :)
This is the review that made me buy mine , I’ve had it for a good while and it is so good and the fact you are Scottish (I am too) , us Scot’s tell the truth 😂, I’ve went in a couple of times to refresh my memory with various buttons , thanks for the review
I've just got one today. Currently experimenting with strength etc, so that will most likely take a while. I don't normally have milk in my coffee, but wanted this one so we have that option for guests etc. So far, apart from a setup problem, which we managed to fix, it looks good, and it's not that noisy.
any idea why when the machine grindes the coffee beans , the grinded coffee comes out where ground coffee should be placed ( the top middle place where the spoon is ) .
Hi. I’ve just plugged mine in. Switched it on the back but after the lights go on and makes what I can assume grinding noises. The lights goes off and nothing happens. Any ideas please? Water in there and beans too
Hi I have had one of these for the past 3years and it's brilliant. Just wondering if you could tell me how do I check the amount of coffes made up to date.
Great review,,,,,,,,I've just got one of these machines, love it but just curious is there a way make the coffee hotter, I find it a bit on the cool side, personal choice but I would like it hotter to drink
Thanks 👍 there's also a setting where you can change the water temperature used to make the coffee from 1 - 4. It's in the manual under "Setting the temperature".
Perfect review, I’ve got a Nespresso but am wanting a machine that does latte so am in the market to get something better. Came across your video and this is my next purchase? Nice one 👍
Strange about the milk spout not being able to be put on a angle like most of their other machines, I bet it's a design flaw so they couldn't do it with the design they went with, I have one of their smaller machines where you can move it on angles and up and down When you hear the Froth the milk do you do it all in 1 go, machine I have it's a bit odd as I wait for green light to say it's ready but then it does not heat it up as hot as it should so I have do to it few times and sometimes even make it all hotter when mixed with the coffee in the cup lol
According the instructions it say 3 flashing lights at the top means the machine has been switched on with the steam knob open, have you tried switching it on with it in the other position?..
After looking further, in the instruction manual there's a section about using the machine for the very first time. You need to follow steps to prime the water system. You have to fill the water tank, place a container under the steam wand, then switch on at the main switch at back of machine, withing 30 seconds switch 'on' at the front & turn the steam knob clockwise and water will purge through the wand until it stops. 3 FLASHING LIGHTS indicate you should turn the knob clockwise to close and the machine then turns off automatically. It can then be turned back on and used as normal thereafter. This could be why you have these light if you've not performed this sequence as it must be completed before first use?... Hope it helps.
Hi. From what I can tell the features, functions & buttons on both are pretty much the same but the 4200 is slightly more expensive and has different styling. So very similar but you probably have the better model of the two. Enjoy 👍
@@AverageScotConsumer brilliant i thought that looking at them, currently theyre both almost half price on delonghi website and only about £9 difference in cost
Hey dude! Im looking at this product for my partner who works as a barista and this looks perfect for what she would need. I dont suppose theres a way to pre grind the beans, rather than needing to grind them as and when you want a coffee? I know you mention that grinding can be quite loud and we're sometimes making coffees at the time of morning or night where you might not want all that noise. This could be ideal if you can process the beans when you want rather than before each cup
Hi, thanks for the q. There's not a function to pre grind the beans so I tried this... When you press the button to make the coffee & press it again it cancels it so I tried to see if you could cancel the cup after the beans have been ground which it did, if that makes sense. I pressed to make a cup again after 10 mins thinking that because the beans were ground the last time it might skip this stage, but unfortunately it ground them again. There is a function to use pre ground instant coffee which I didn't really cover in the video 😬 Next to the bean container there is a built in funnel with a plastic spoon where you can add instant coffee. This skips the griding stage altogether but obviously you won't have fresh bean to cup coffee which is the main attraction to this machine. To be honest though even after the beans have been ground, it still makes some noise when actually dispensing the coffee. Hope this long answer helps haha 👍
@@AverageScotConsumer Amazing, thank you for taking time to reply! I did a bit of digging and the ability to use instant is a nice feature that'll come in handy even if its just from time to time. I've actually pre-ordered one but had to keep it at a relatives house so she doesn't see it in the net week. Am i right in thinking that the bean to cup idea cuts out the need for a tamp and a knockbox? I think she's used to manual machines so hopefully she'll enjoy the change Also, what do beans taste like when theyve been ground twice? hahaha
According to the instructions you can make it more creamy by turning the Grinding Adjustment Knob in the bean compartment. Turn it ONE click anti-clockwise towards '1' then see if it's made a difference after a FEW of cups. If it still needs to be more creamy then repeat the steps but don't adjust more than one click at a time.
Had mine for 5 years now it it's only just let me down. The knob for the steam control broke. I spare was easily obtained and only cost £2.50 + (p&p) and was just a push fit. I cannot rate this machine highly enough. Recently bought Nescafe Dolce Gusto a pod machine to try, don't bother. It taste horrible to me, I think the stuff that makes the milk in them gives it a taste and I have tried different styles. Flat white is the best so far but still tastes artifical.
@@AverageScotConsumer Won't asked for replacement, I love coffee and tried so many useless machines, this one had lit up buttons but did not heat up nor grind the beans, just purchased a cafetière simple is sometimes best.

Thanks, I guess. 'Before you go'..... hit like & subscribe 👍
I`m using this machine for the last 4 years making an average of 10 coffees a day and never had any issues with it. really recommend it :)
I assume that 10 cups is for different people and not all for your self?

A good straight forward demo of the machine.
Thanks 👍
Is the hot water function suitable for tea making, too? Hoping to ditch my kettle completely!
Yes 🙂
Love mine! Highly recommend.
I like strong coffee , usually 3 shots in my latte, what grund strength would you recommend for this ?

Does anyone know how to use this machine with ground in coffee pleass
Good demo BUT why the background musak? Prefer to hear the machine as you say it's noisy but we can't hear it.
Fair point 👍 lesson learnt 😬
@@AverageScotConsumer Well I'm buying one based on your review. Thanks
Got any advice for coffee that is coming out quite quick and tastes quite bitter? The grind is set at 3 and both front dials are at medium

How do you clean it?
how do you set the water temperature for hotter coffee?
My ESAM 2800 Caffe Corso machine's water indicator light is steadily on even when I've filled the water tank. So won't work, what can I do?
Great video, I have the same machine but really struggle to get the milk to froth. Just end up with hot milk. I use UHT skimmed. Any tips?
Skimmed is tricky to steam properly 👍

How to dispose the used or wasted coffee.
Put them in the bin. Also heard you can use it in compost to give more nutrients to your grass etc
@@AverageScotConsumer Excellent for compost. We have clay soil so great to put some fibre in it.
Put it in the garden
How hot is the coffee?
Can you remove the tray to fit larger cups under it, like a tall latte glass?
You can push the black spout up

It would definitely help to be able to angle it!...makes it harder to froth the milk but still possible. It does heat the milk well it one go though.
Do you happen to know what the wheel does in 2:30?
it changes how fine/coarse the beans are grounded.
Mine doesn’t do nothing...just blinking the top 3 buttons...no hot water no coffee...not grinding..could you help/?

How many Scots do you consume on average per week?
About 3, but more during lockdown

Pretty strong 🤯 yeh you don't need a tamp or knockbox but there's a box with all the grinds in it that you have to empty maybe every 10 cups or so.
