I play a hybrid build into long guns and science I'ma use the long rifle science gun from the dlc and after I hit 100 on each science and long guns ,you really want to focus on companions.
If you're playing on survival, then sadly no. Any other difficulty, they just kneel on the ground until you finish off the enemies. Survival can be pretty tough at the start. I'd recommend telling Parvati to wait outside of combat or stay far away.

When your companions die, do they ever come back or ?
I’m just at the start of the game and my first companion Parvati just died and idk what to do
