- This video shows me with my very first band, the "ROCK REVIVAL BAND" at a concert of the event series "YESTERDAY - OLDIES AT THE FINEST" on April 14, 1991 in Gera, Thuringia, Germany. The location, the “Clubzentrum COMMA” still exists and I am really happy about these old recordings that I think “good old” Frank and the COMMA team took there. Since then, the videos have been sitting in the closet on VHS cassettes collecting dust, but now I simply had them digitized to show you what I did in my musical beginnings at the beginning of the 1990s. Today it's “Samba Pa Ti” by Carlos Santana and be surprised by what's coming next!
►ROCK REVIVAL BAND:
I founded the band in 1989 together with my (slightly older) friend Thomas Große. I was just 18 years old at the time and initially wasn't that interested in singing. So of course Thomas took on the role of lead singer and rhythm guitarist and I was fully on my “Carlos Santana/Brian May/Gary Moore/Jimmy Page/Eddie van Halen trip” anyway and therefore the lead guitarist, too sang a bit of background. Our shared love of the Beatles' music allowed us to sing a lot of two-part songs like "She Loves You" or "If I Fell" right from the start, and so my singing voice was able to develop more and more. The original line-up also included Uwe Schütze on bass and Michael Golle on drums and later joined René Oertel on saxophone, keyboard and tambourine or Alexander Beer on piano the band. We quickly became popular, well booked and on everyone's lips because of our fresh enthusiasm for playing and a repertoire that matched the band name with classics from the Beatles to the Stones or from CCR to Deep Purple was well received. And today? Despite a number of line-up changes, the “ROCK REVIVAL BAND” still exists and my friend Thomas is still the frontman, leader and singer of the band. And even though I haven't been there myself for many years, Thomas, I and certainly our ex-colleagues are still burning for this great music from back then. It's nice that we now have these old recordings as a reminder of our "good old" and formative early days!

I'm really happy about such a nice comment like yours! 😎 Carlos's independent guitar sound and his fascinating, always melodic playing still grab me just as much today as it did in 1987 when I saw his legendary Berlin concert on GDR TV! At the time I just thought: “Me I want to have a guitar just like him and I want to be able to play just like him!" (close up in the video! 😅) Back then was the time of my musical beginnings, I was young and highly motivated, even if I didn't have great equipment or know much about it. At the time, I was proud of a Santana record that I bought at an incredibly expensive price, and I listened to it over and over again, trying to figure out what and how Carlos was playing. Hey Christine, thank you very much for your nice comment and I think it's nice that you would have liked to have been there! Nostalgia is a beautiful thing! 😊 Of course I know what you mean about Thomas. In his “defense,” however, I have to say that we were all quite young back then, had little stage experience, and because of the excitement and stage fright, we usually played many of the songs much too quickly. Often rhythmic problems were (and are) due to the monitoring on stage when you can't hear your colleagues well and the tempo is a little different because of that! 🤪 By the way, Thomas still performs with our Rock Revival Band, which was founded back then... and he is always there with passionate enthusiasm, which sometimes really feels better when playing together than making perfect music. 🤓 Kind regards, Andreas 🙋🏽♂️🎸🤗

Bin ich sehr gern!!! 😊 Carlos‘s eigenständiger Gitarrensound und sein faszinierendes, stets melodiöses Spiel packen mich heute noch ganz genauso wie 1987, als ich sein legendäres Berlin-Konzert im DDR-TV sah! 🤩 Ich dachte damals nur: „Ich will genauso eine Gitarre haben und ich will genauso spielen können wie er!“ (nah dran im Video! 😅) Danke Carlos!!! 🎸

Genau! 👍🏼 Vor allem toll, dass man das heutzutage bei RUclips anschauen kann!!! 🤓 Damals habe ich das Konzert lediglich mit einem Dioden-Kabel von TV auf meinen Kassettenrekorder mitschneiden können und mir beim Jahrelangen Anhören alles visuelle dazu nur noch vorstellen können; immer in der Hoffnung, dass man das irgendwann noch einmal sehen kann... oder eine VHS-Kassette davon bekommt... oder später eine DVD usw. 😅 Liebe Grüße! Danke lieber Bernd, das freut mich wirklich sehr! 😀 Damals noch mit DDR-Strat und einem billigen Amp der Marke „Taifun“. Keine Ahnung, ob ich da auch Bodeneffektgeräte im Einsatz hatte!? 🤔 Aber ich war jung und begeisterungsfähig und sog alles in mich auf was ich in die Hände (oder ins Ohr) kriegen konnte. 🤓

Ich glaub' schon! 😎 Ich konnte mich damals beim Üben nur nach der Original-Version richten, die ich auf 'ner Santana-Schallplatte hatte. Die "guten alten Zeiten" eben! 🤗
