The album is the whole arc of a relationship from the beginning to the end, the good, the in between and the bad.
That makes so much sense!!
yeap, but how the songs are ordered in the album seems to indicate her emotional journey post breakup where somedays you may feel unfazed by the divorce, and then boom the next you find yourself in deep depression and sadness.

Magic is one of my favorites. It's very much like a Disney movie, so beautifully written, produced and sung.
I don’t have a situation and cried hearing lighthouse. 😂 And Kelly's vocals are off the rails magnificent on this album!

Kelly's ranch in Montana is called "High Road"
Took me a few listens to get in to Magic, but now its one of my faves on the album.
Also how iconic is the line in My Mistake.... "you hold her prettt close, thought you needed space"
And Red Flag Collector...."drag my name around town, it dont matter cuz i changed it anyway" she really legally changed her name to Kelly Brianne and Kelly Clarkson is her stage name.

Rock Hudson completes the "piece by piece" trilogy. Listen to Because Of You from her album Breakaway, then listen to Piece By Piece from the album Piece By Piece (watch the American Idol live version), then listen to Rock Hudson. Trust me, you'll have so much more respect for the song. Also, she named the song Rock Hudson because she loved the actor Rock Hudson. Rock Hudson was secretly gay and lived two separate lives to keep his secret. She referenced his name in the first line "you were my Rock Hudson", to signify that her ex was living to separate lives, and she felt she never really knew him because of that.
I'm definitely going to listen to those 3 songs back to back!!
Thank you! You completely nailed it and said what I was going to say. Perfect trilogy. Also the sober line in Rock Hudson is a flashback to her song Sober, on her album My December.
I have found it interesting listening to younger people reacting to this album. It has been a reality check on my age. Examples; who or what is Rock Hudson, Steve Martin not realizing he is a grammy winning musician, and Sheila E an extremely renowned percussionist who played with Prince. I get not everyone, especially the younger generations, will fully getting the songs Chemistry and Magic. I think only age and time within a relationship can make you fully appreciate those 2 songs, which I love. I think this album on a whole, is a beautiful work of art that not everyone is going to appreciate depending on their level of life lived. One final note on HIgh Road, it has a meaning also, both the song and a line in one of the songs. High Road is the name of Kelly's ranch in Montana

Great reaction. Favourite kind of high is her talking about how it was at the start of their relationship. As she explained in a interview she didn't want it to be all about the sadness of her relationship she brought the good and bad in this album.

There’s a lyric in rock Hudson that goes “by the way piece by piece, I found out my hero’s me” and the lyric refers to an older song Kelly released called piece by piece. I think it was one of her hit songs that a lot of people remember

Kelly did say that Favorite Kind Of High was about the very beginning of her relationship with Brandon.
Kelly wrote most of the album in an airplane, including lighthouse. She said she wrote lighthouse when she made the decision to file for divorce.

Kelly wrote every song and their melodies except, “high road” and “my mistake”. She did a concert and performed the entire album from beginning to end on her birthday in April and they did release the “favorite kind of high” performance.
First time watching you and I enjoyed it. Love your enthusiasm and your appreciation of Kelly. I'll definitely check out more of your videos.

When you find out that when she says “high road living is what I do best” is actually about her ranch in Montana because the name of the ranch is High road and she won to keep her own property in court… will really redirect the song for you

Favorite kind of high is talking about falling in love with her ex husband. It is a whole ark of a relationship … the good bad and ugly.
I didn’t care for Magic the first couple of times I heard it but now it’s in my top five on the album. And there’s really a lot to the lyrics, more depth than what’s on the surface to her personal story
Magic & Chemistry were initially my least favorite songs on the album. Over several more listens, they have definitely grown on me. I like them much more now. Skip This Part, Down To You, My Mistake, Lighthouse, Favorite Kind Of High, and Mine are probably my favorite songs from this album. I love this album so much! There’s not a single song that I dislike, and that hardly ever happens for me. She not only references songs from this album in her lyrics but older songs as well (i.e. sober & piece by piece). She had written I hate love and decided to ask Steve Martin to play banjo on it since she referenced him in the song. I also appreciate/respect how she didn’t want to diminish her marriage down to just sad/mad in this album. She doesn’t fit in a box with genres/styles & I love that as well! Queen slays again & wrote all the songs except for 2. ❤

"Favorite Kind of High" really intrigues me because I TOTALLY understand what you mean with "Stronger era", that's what I feel too! And I'd go even further: I'm 100% I've already heard that melody from the chorus in another Kelly's song but I literally can't remember which song it is lol

So the line "The Notebook lied, It's Complicated is more like what happened, so you can keep Gosling and I'll take Steve Martin" She explained during her live performance of the song that she thinks the message in The Notebook is "bullshit" and is not realistic. However, It's Complicated is more of how things actually go. Gosling is in The Notebook & Steven Martin is in It's Complicated. Also love how she sings that whole line...very Broadway-esque.
