Oh my god this movie, never have I felt so uncomfortable. The Beasts look amazing but the movie feels sooo grimy. It’s an underrated gem, I do advise everyone watch it at least once in their life.

This movie was my childhood. As a kid I can sympathy with Max. I always get the feeling that out there. There’s monsters that represents me and my feelings, in how I deal with them at times I can feel like a terrible guy myself however, What me and Max have comment is that we both struggle with dealing with our emotions. Max ran away while I stay isolated with myself wondering about my insecurity’s sometimes.
This is one of the few movies my mom showed me when she was still apart of my life. We had it on a burned dvd with simple marker written on the disk. This movie was a large part of my childhood. The funny thing about my mom is even though she is no longer in my life, and didn’t really take care of me well when I was a kid, a lot of the movies that are important to me now came from her. Where The Wild Things Are is so important to me for this fact. It’s just a good movie for a child to watch and learn from, despite how dark it appears.
This movie is a favorite of mine! I didn't think that a children's book where just a bunch of stuff happened could be come such a thought provoking film. Plus, the special effects and puppetry is amazing! I also wish that we got more of Max Records in some movies... he had so much potential.

I genuinely credit this movie to the being the start of my anxiety issues. I was 9 when it came out, my mom just had my little brother and my sister and I could sense the shift in our home life. Now having my own baby, I’ve realized she was going through postpartum depression. I’ve always been an empath so it effected me immensely. I remember my parents being very excited to watch this movie thinking it would be like the book. We watched it once and I was never the same, it literally makes me feel creeped out just thinking about it.
I'm not so sure that would be the movie giving you anxiety, so much as making you realize it. You mentioned your home life shifted, yeah? And postpartum can cause a lot of seriously horrifying shifts in family dynamic. Maybe the movie made you realize how you'd been feeling?

Where the Wild Things Are is incredibly beautiful and possibly one of the greatest films of all time. It is a critically underrated story about mental health and the hardships that we as humans go through in life. I wish it had more love but it is amazing to see a video like this praising it for what it is.
I feel like every adult or parent should have to see this movie at least once. Not so much kids because I feel like they wouldn’t get it. It’s still my favorite kids book. And as a mom of 5 boys, where the wild things are holds a special place in my heart. And the movie makes me cry so much while simultaneously giving me the ache of nostalgia.

But I will say that the short story the movie was based on is something from my childhood, yet forgot its existence through time, and I only saw the movie once in 2010. Glad to hear you say that kids would like it whereas grown-ups will get a totally different experience that it might actually be for them.
I'm going to be quite honest I actually do prefer the film's ending to The Original book since the Wild Things are a lot more forgiving so why Max decides to leave while in the original book they are downright Furious when they find out he leaves

Also that like trust people have in you and feeling like you’re letting people down. The pity they see in you this movie is so deep. The confusing emotions and the finality to the world for no reason. Also how others interpret situations different than you even when you wish they understood in your way.

Where the wild things are is wonderful. It isn’t creepy, but just weird in all the perfect ways. The fact that it’s a kids book amplifies that perfectly. You know what takes that away? THE F*CKING MOVIE.
I watched this as a kid and it really weirded me out. I didn't "get" it. I want to rewatch it because I understand now i am older that there was more going on that i couldnt have been able to wrap my head around at the time.
I wouldn't show kids this not because it's dark or anything (it's honestly more silly than dark) but because these characters are all reprehensible and I wouldn't want them immitating it. The mom is the only one who's not awful and I feel so sorry for her.
