You didn’t tab in Scrapper’s ankles. That what keeps the leg together. You didn’t do it right. This thing is rock solid. Most of your complaints are user errors except for the loose knee.
As someone who can appreciate complex transformations, I love this set. Bot to vehicle isn't easy but I enjoyed the process. Getting to combined mode wasn't bad for the legs or arms. Even Long Haul wasn't bad to do. But getting Hook setup is a royal pain. The port in his chest isn't wide enough when plugging Long Haul in. I had to use one of the guns and spin it around in the hole to loosen it up (so to speak). I think you have to attach Long Haul and Hook prior to attaching the chest shield. Nothing can be rushed on this set when combining it. There are a ton of pieces to arrange and tab in to get it right. Even liking complexity, this set frustrated the hell out of me. It took me a couple hours to get it combined correctly while using Golden Zhen's videos. Once the frustration settled, I loved it. Mine is stable as hell, can hold the gun, and has tight joints. While the loose elbow is an issue, the knees can extend or collapse up depending on how you setup the combiner. I'm curious if that contributed to their looseness by them not being fully in either position. I'm also concerned that due to how MS Devvy was transformed in this video that the versus NA video isn't going to be as quality a comparison as it could be.
you don't need to bend the plastic on mixmaster. the whole side cab section is on an extender. You should pull that out before moving the inner hinge down.
Something I haven’t seen anyone who’s reviewed this set mention is you can actually take of the back skirts and they have the exact same connection as the front skirts and because this set comes with two alternative front skirts you can put one of them on the back which allows the leg to bend fully backwards because the skirts are then movable
My Copy is solid as a rock , joints are fine the combination holds together. I think this copy you have video just had the worst luck with QC issues I’ve ever seen.
Really suprised on this one. Sure it did took me a while to combine them. But since it was done, it was pretty solid to be honnest. It stands correctly and easily, the elbow could hold the gun, the knee wasnt that loose.
@@dustyyshellz1320 yes, yes we did. I maybe wasn't clear in my message but I was talking about my experience with my magic square devastator where I didn't have the same tolerance issues bobby clearly had on "his". There may be some disparencies between units which is not unheard of. I thought it was maybe worth mentioning
Yeah but its not fun to combine and mine broke in several places while transforming them because you have to flex the plastic so much when flip them back and fourth between modes
Haven't got the feet for scrapper tabbed in to stop him splitting up, and mix masters gun actually goes in-between his heels to join it up more securely, have none of the problems you've had with minde but it's all be tabbed in properly on my end, the only issue I have is scrappers waist being the ankle tilt, it's just damn wobbly
Absolutely love this thing. It’s a bit of a a hassle getting everything in the torso area transformed, but once you’ve got everything tabbed in, it’s good and stable. I just wish the legs were better they’re really the only sore spot of this whole set imo. I’d love for magic square to make a new set with better tolerances, but I’m not sure they ever would.
Wow i have mine and it is solid as a rock, yes it's kind of a nightmare to put together but none of the joints are loose, everything stay perfect together fine and i can pose it with no problems. I have seen other reviews and they noticed none of those problems either. Sure its not a toy and must be handled with care (something Bobby does not, sadly)
Ok took the time to put him together...... It took forever. He is just time consuming to put together but once you tab everything in its solid. Some of it is very tight and requires alot of pressure, especially the two chest peices that go together those two pegs take alot of pressure.
The plastic they've used is called...nylon. The reason nylon was used is because it's very strong but also very flexible which makes it perfect for all the tabbing pieces to hold in place. Yeah the plastic quality doesnt feel the best but it's a much better material when there are lots of tabs. Just look at Maketoys combiners tabs everywhere, nice hard plastic but none of the pieces hold besides the large major joints. Hope this helps you understand your hobby a bit better. Also the thighs swing out to provide additional articulation for like deep bends at the legs or kneeling poses so of course it is "necessary" why wouldn't it be?
Your reviews and this one in particular as so honest, this is the real T. This has really helped me to maybe avoid this guy, but it’s also making me question if I should carry on with the MS Legends, Bruticus or not

I also know that because mine works a bit better it doesn't mean your evaluation isn't accurate and you can only talk about the piece you're reviewing. Specially since without ratchets it will eventually loosen up with time. Having said all this I would like to add that I somewhat agree with your critics and had mine been like Robert D's I would be pissed off to say the least. Thanks for the review Mr. Skullface
I echo Bobby’s opinions from my first go with this set. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. Then I gave him another pass a week later and figured that I may have missed something. He is difficult to put together. No denying. But I had missed mini alterations that made a significant difference. Pegging in the mixmaster gun, Scrappers feet and his flanks in particular. Now I’m much happier. Mine is solid too, but it is not intuitive. All I can say is that I’m happy with mine now. I don’t think this can all be called QC as what are the odds that Bobby got a copy with all of them being poor. The set has failings.
I am thinking you don't have it together right, I haven'[t had any of the problems you had. But I also don't think you care much about it, so you aren't putting the time in to get to know it well enough. And fair enough, it isn't yours, and you aren't a legends collector, but I think you will find it is in fact very solid.
Great Vid but I really want to hear why you stopped Starwars at the time you did? I know but want to hear it and what do you think of $600 1099K? Dude people over plastic!!
The first time you transform everything and combine it, it's hellishly difficult! Largely because the instructions SUCKED! But every subsequent attempt gets easier. I didn't have any of your QC issues. All my joints are fine. It's rock solid. No regrets getting this at all. It's glorious.
After looking at all the reviews on newage and MS I decided i would just add to my project list. Get a $30 hulkie KO and the $30 upgrade kit. Then mod it with modeling Styrene I have on hand to had more beef and height and fix the individual look of the bots.Paint it and see what I end up with. So far i am fine with the look of the hulkie KO and the upgrade kit. Its just a little too small for my Newage collection. He's way too close to Skyfire. I sure wish someone would of shown a comparison of hulkie with the Newage and MS. Weird how you cant find that anywhere online. Not even a side by side by side pic.....?
Shame - It's a really great figure from what i've experienced (that's from someone that gets newage normally). Transform can be rough, but all 3rd party are going that way now and (imo) that's how we get great models in both modes, but this will obviously add to frustrations, which can be felt all through this review. I've found these figures needed time and being transformed several times to get to grips with them correctly (that's matter of opinion on if that should happen, ofc), plus not liking the material is going to add bias to the review. It's very hard to remain impartial, but this review was never going to be a recommend and personally I could see that from the very first models you reviewed of devastator. I still think it'll win the head to head if you spend more time with it, as looks and price will edge it. Keep up the reviews.
Both Devys are great in their own right with issues. Ultimately I went with NewAge for Devy but can see why people would want this one. He looks fantastic but from what I’ve seen including your review he’s frustrating the moment you touch him.
Also new age is making an upgrade kit that replaces legs on scrapper, hook, and mixmaster that will get rid of the hollowness, improve accuracy(gray hook feet) and make the combiner legs a bit better due to stability.
With how unstable my mixmaster and Scrapper are in individual bot mode I just know they are going to be the weak links in the combined mode. Dreading putting the team in combined mode.
Had I the money and patience,I would get this set. Doesnt look fun though. I don't really have many NA or MS figures, legends arent a thing I want to get too far into quite yet. Good vid, man.
Hard to disagree with all that, Bobby. I've found that with familiarity some of the problems ease - I can get everything waist-up tabbed in nice and secure now. But there's no way round the issue of the leg bots unfurling with use. Like you say, it's a materials issue, because of it some of these transformations will never be fun. Overall it looks so great that it makes the pain just about worth it IMO, but it still frustrates as it didn't have to be this way.
Mine is super stable! I liked the complexity but yeah, you can't miss any connection points or you compromise stability. But if you get it all, he's kind of like an action figure, that's how stable he is.
You know for me, the biggest problem here is the price. Regardless of any issue, it looks absolutely like one of the best Devys in toy form EVER and I would have went in on it if it was say $150 or less. The price of these LEGENDS class figures is absurd.
did we need another 3rd party devastator? no, no we did not. but that doesn’t mean it isn’t sick, plus it’s a wayyy different size class than other offerings have been in the past.
In this scale, this is only one of three. The first was Iron Factory which was extremely stylized for the IDW model. The New Age came out at the exact same time as the Magic Square- and both seemed rushed. Any others were ko undersized toys that were more CHUG scale than legends.
@@Arkhangel99 and that's the issue. I hear you on this one - I absolutely love how MS Devastator looks, but the transformation was beyond painful, and needlessly so. My joints thankfully were not floppy like yours, but when they've included great ratchets in the thighs I don't understand why that couldn't have been done in the elbows and knees too, particularly because they are separate parts forming pieces. That said, when you stand him beside NewAge it just looks so much better, and I want to prefer the NewAge, but aesthetically I just can't. Have to say though, my NewAge Devy wasn't without its own balancing & joint issues too, so neither perfect on that front. Seems like a wasted opportunity for either company to solidify their position.

For people that could care less about toon accuracy maybe. These two hit the G1 vibe better than any before it, unfortunately, the one that’s made the best looks the worst, and the one that looks the best is made the worst. That’s what trying to be first to market will get you I guess.
@@PSYCHOWORLD the thing about constructor, is he’s the best available. If Fanstoys or XTB came out with a proper G1 toon Devi, the collecting world would go mad. Constructor has been a good stand in, but at the end of the day, an updated proper G1 devistator from Fanstoys would be just like the Huffer situation. There would be all these people claiming that toy world is “good enough” for them, but when the Devi is released, and everyone is falling all over it because it’s so good, these same knucklehead collectors would be quietly trying to pick one up.
@@Kickback-dm7zt the great thing about 3P imo is that everything is eventually made better. Constructor was a giant upgrade on the Devistators before it. I also really like the Jinbao KO upscale of Gravity Builder. Those are however older figures, and I expect to see one of the major 3P companies do an updated version. Or what would be even better is an official MP version maybe from Haslab.
Transformation is pain, beside that it is an excellent figure, the best Legend Combiner so far, never played with NA's but I dont like that skinny bounch of cars hold by an action figure, sad but true.
Oh my ... I was going to say was this made by Takara? My MP52s are no where near that bad in the knees, but they are too loose. Another example of bad quality control :(
The knees and elbows are parts forming peices, why wouldn't they add ratchets? It really does look the part though, WoW! Lots of people in the comments saying theirs is dead solid. I can see the thread title now "Skullface loosens screws for Views".
I normally prefer NA but I too was going to get the MS Constructicons due to the robot and Devastator proportions. Now seeing this, even with it being just Robert's copy according to the other comments, and knowing the take of a fellow reviewer on my channel (Pocket Bot Collective) basically cemented me on NA whenever I do pick one of these sets up.
A display piece and not a toy... "pose it and walk away" as Bobby said sums it up perfectly... Its like those Bandai transforming Macross model kits.. Despite the fact they can transform DONT transform them or they WILL break.. You build them as the jet and then if you want the Gerwalk or Battroid mode you transform them but if either of those modes are what you want then transform it ONCE and take your time and once transformed NEVER transform it again.. Remember despite the fact it can transform its NOT a toy to be given to a kid to play with or messed around with and constantly transformed back and forth.. Its a MODEL KIT and a DISPLAY PIECE for ADULT collectors.
nah, this is a great set and very solid. BUt you do have to make sure everything is tabbed in and if you miss any of those, it's likely to be unstable. Like real life Devastator, haha (that one episode where cliffjumper shoots him once and he falls apart). I've given my 7 year old some magic square figures to play with like perceptor and he's transformed him tons of times. He's still holding up.
So glad I got out of the 3p game when I did, the price was only going one way and QC is never consistent, its like playing Russian roulette, not with my money bud. But he does look nice and I hope they can sort the issues out for those that want this.
3P is actually in a good place right now. Fanstoys has never been better, and XTB is giving it the old college try. For those of us that collect G1 toon, life is good.
I feel like MMC's Devastator is going to be much more simplistic and yet sturdier than this entire set. This set certainly does not seem remotely intuitive, and that's a shame, because I think they look pretty good overall.
I gotta agree with Bobby, if the thing can't support its own weight or even hold its rifle with the forearm extended its junk. I would be pissed if I purchased it. A group of individuals at Magic Square looked this thing over when building it, noticed it couldn't support itself, and then said "Ship it". wtf
mine is SO good. yeah, its hard, but its made for adults it should be more complex, thats what I wanted. also they get way easier to transformer after the first time. Best Transformers figures I own. I was excited for the NA one until i saw Magic Squares. i am not disappointed, this thing is a work of art and Bobbys review just doesnt jive with my personal experience with it.
mine is actually quite stable. If it was MP probably not as much but in this scale, he plays as close to an action figure than anything I have, newage included.
The parts forming pieces should have ratchets for stability. That's so easy to do. And people complain about how the NA having too much parts forming. At least it can stay together and not fall over. MS Menasor has issues with pieces staying on as well. I love the ascetics but wish it was more stable and painted.
Il not a MS fan i have a mix of MS and NA in my collection but i can show you how mine is rock solid especially if transformed properly, it's nowere near this mess he's making it look like. Not saying it's perfect, it's actually a true pain in the butt to transform, but the end result is near perfect
@@davidez4640 haha, yeah, i'm among those commenting about how mine is totally solid. But I'm a fan of NA too.
@@PSYCHOWORLD tfc hercules was the dogs genitals back in the day, especially with the upgrade kit. Still have mine.
I can see the thread title now
"Skullface loosens screws for Views".
There is no way to put ratchets in the elbows because of how they did it
I really like the proportions better on the MS, but that’s it. The colors and build are much better in NA.
I normally prefer NA but I too was going to get the MS Constructicons due to the robot and Devastator proportions. Now seeing this, even with it being just Robert's copy according to the other comments, and knowing the take of a fellow reviewer on my channel (Pocket Bot Collective) basically cemented me on NA whenever I do pick one of these sets up.
confusing review and transformation directions.
Obviously this companies qc dept were out on the booze when designing the combined mode.
Just as the New Age one which doesn count as a transforming combiner and it's an action figure with add-on parts.
@@mikehock5285 And my set of this one actually is super solid.
I have the MS and the Newage.
Love them both but have to agree that the ideal devvy would look like MS but be built like NA.
Spot on.
I feel like MMC's Devastator is going to be much more simplistic and yet sturdier than this entire set. This set certainly does not seem remotely intuitive, and that's a shame, because I think they look pretty good overall.
MMC is doing a Devy?! Is that what they teased on their Defensor vid at TFCon Baltimore?
Good morning everyone
Did u know that: magic square is a knockoff thats why the materials suck | now u know
I gotta agree with Bobby, if the thing can't support its own weight or even hold its rifle with the forearm extended its junk. I would be pissed if I purchased it. A group of individuals at Magic Square looked this thing over when building it, noticed it couldn't support itself, and then said "Ship it". wtf
But it does. Bobby mistransformed him.
It totally does
mine is SO good. yeah, its hard, but its made for adults it should be more complex, thats what I wanted. also they get way easier to transformer after the first time. Best Transformers figures I own. I was excited for the NA one until i saw Magic Squares. i am not disappointed, this thing is a work of art and Bobbys review just doesnt jive with my personal experience with it.
Its a shame that something that looks that good is such a loosey goosey mess :(
To be fair, his has MAJOR QC issues. Mine doesn't
mine is actually quite stable. If it was MP probably not as much but in this scale, he plays as close to an action figure than anything I have, newage included.
What a absolute mess
Plus those connection pieces on it for the leg and arms look so flimsy
The parts forming pieces should have ratchets for stability. That's so easy to do. And people complain about how the NA having too much parts forming. At least it can stay together and not fall over. MS Menasor has issues with pieces staying on as well. I love the ascetics but wish it was more stable and painted.
From this review, If it was mine I would throw it at a wall🤣
The MS fans are out in full force in the comments lol
Il not a MS fan i have a mix of MS and NA in my collection but i can show you how mine is rock solid especially if transformed properly, it's nowere near this mess he's making it look like. Not saying it's perfect, it's actually a true pain in the butt to transform, but the end result is near perfect
@@davidez4640 haha, yeah, i'm among those commenting about how mine is totally solid. But I'm a fan of NA too. Not mutually exclusive, just saying that something really must have gone wrong on bobby's set and it would be a shame if people opted out based on this example. But on the bright side, they'll save money.
You mean NA fans, there is a lot of unjustifeid and repetitive towards MS Devastator only because Bobby got a lemon.
They have to justify buying an overpriced partsforming action figure i guess.
Made with Recycled Pringles can tops. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This looks over-complicated. 🤨
Recycled Pringle tops lol
Must be a shit copy
Way too many hinges. Way over engineered, and the lack of ratchets is stupid. This doesn't look fun at all, and if the fun is gone, what's the point?
Not good , what a floppy mess I hate the toes on mix master
Man, this does not look fun.
What a fiddly mess...
