- The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, United States Navy. In this compilation video of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, takeoffs and landings of US Navy fighter jets, F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18E Super Hornet, helicopters, MH-60S Sea Hawk, and reconnaissance aircraft, flight deck operations, Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. Sailors and Marines onboard USS Carl Vinson conduct flight operations with an MV-22 Osprey.
USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is the United States Navy's third Nimitz-class supercarrier. She is named for Carl Vinson, a Congressman from Georgia, in recognition of his contributions to the U.S. Navy.

We were fortunate enough to be invited on a Family Day Cruise aboard the Carl Vinson in May of 1995. She had recently returned from Desert Storm.
Such gracious hosts. They took us under the San Francisco Bay Bridge, leaned the flight deck left and right to give us great views of Alcatraz and the Embarcadero.
Then out under the Golden Gate. The tower on that ship barely clears the bridge and after going under all sorts of Antennae fold up that would not have cleared the Bridge.
There were crowds of people on the GG Bridge throwing flowers down onto the deck.
They took us way out beyond the Farralon Islands and fed us lunch and while we were eating they arrested four Jets from LNAS Lemoore. After lunch they let us ride the flight elevators
Up to the flight deck and put on one fantastic Air Show including Breaking the Sound Barrier over the deck. We were on board about 15 hours. It was incredible.
When we came back in the Captain thanked us for choosing “Bald Eagle Cruise Lines”. Cheers.

I know that ship front words and back words because it was my home for four years while working on board as a cook on watch in supply dept. I was in the Persian Gulf war, and I'm lucky to be alive!!! Those were the days!!!
