Weishaupt didn't like the clergy and their closed authoritarian religious orders, but I'd roughly classify him as Christian-Anarchism. I found a later statement by Jefferson that said, basically, "uh, no" as far as the idea that while self-governing individuals may be OK, a self-governing society without leaders can't really work. I suppose because, in general, some people are shitheads and everyone's at least a little bit shithead.
I don't get why Weishaupt is so hated and demonized for being anti-Catholic and pro-Reason and pro-Enlightenment, same as the Founders and foundation of America and modern Europe after monarchy.
They had to keep things secret from the Church. ALL Enlightenment thinkers were clearly undermining the power of the Church. Freedom of religion means the absence of One True Religious Authority. Separation of Church vs State. Weishaupt was of course down with this idea too.
Their society was against power-mongering, as so stated.
He disliked the government and church purely because they wielded the power he wanted for himself. He seemed to be a bit of a nutjob (if you look at the “occult” BS he was so deeply involved with) who just wanted to feel like a big, powerful man in society. He conned plenty of other men who similarly lacked in self confidence and self value into joining his little book club.

I've been studying the Illuminati and secret societies for over a decade, and never heard this for Ills or any other serious group, so I'm thinking that part was not accurate. The rest is very close.
But when it comes to gathering information on the life of Weishaupt as well as the Illuminati (and also Rosicrucians) it is almost impossible to get exactly the same information from two different sources. A researcher is lucky to find two or three books that agree 75%.
"Reason" and reason are two different things.
They are relying on symbolism to make a statement and making life sacrifices to establish power connections, but not allowing people to understand without that, that life is sacred and life has power and shouldn't be sacrificed to make a statement. Enlightened and intelligent people could grasp that.
An owl is the symbol of wisdom because it is able to see in the dark.

They got it from them, just as the Christians borrowed Saturnalia and Winter Soltice celebrations from pagans, and created Christmas. They also had to make Christ's birthday occur 5 months early so Christmas would match up with all those pagan holidays during the winter.

The tribe of Dan also constructed its own temple and purportedly worshipped a golden calf. The other tribes, I just don't know. There's much history there to learn, and the Philistines were an important part of it. They all were Hebrew, but not all were Jews. Ah, the Illuminatus! Trilogy. One of my favorite books, although I don't know if their theory about GW being replaced was serious. You have to keep in mind, it was written by a couple of editors for Playboy who had dealt with so many letters from nutjobs about conspiracy theories that they decided to write a book where the plot is that every conspiracy theory ever is true, while also being a parody of Ayn Rand. Oh, and there's Nazi zombies.

Look up project mindfuck. The book wasn't written about the letters they received from real people, they wrote the letters themselves to cause chaos. They were fake. The authors were part of a pseudo-religious sort of cult. If you look up the discordian movement, or principia discordia, along with project mindfuck you'll see what I'm talking about. They basically started the modern day illuminati conspiracy. I just did a whole project on it. I highly recommend looking into it as it's rather fascinating. ❤️

A 1778 book called "Proof Of Conspiracy" By John Robison a professor wrote it after he was approached by Weishaupt. No theory involved. You would find it quit interesting!
