this is from 1970 from DAC's first album he wouldnt see success for 5 years until you never even call me by my name in 1975 he would go on to have hits off and on until 1985 for columbia records his last record for that label came out in 1987 what a fantastic artist and what a look back to the start of the outlaw era in country music :)

Long story short, we spotted him and a street talking to a street girl/whore outside in an alley across the street from where we were in line to get in to see him play. Other people close to us in line with us kinda disagreed saying that is not David Allen Coe. I grew my balls up nice and tight and fat and said hold my beer..my 20 year ole' young-ass weaves in and out of traffic, called jaywalking in the big citys, so I finally get to the alley across the street and I knew this was my hero David cause I seen him , he was like glowing and shit all around him with this aura or some shit.. I turned around with my chest poked out . I glanced at the dumb sumbitches who just questioned my impressive skill of. Master identification of famous outlaw country western musicians. Knowing they just have made there worst decisions in life just now by doubting me or David . Oh it was him let me tell ye' cause he was dressed from head to toe in the sharpest and most peculiar odd ass outfit ive ever seen , all the way down to his rainbow rubberbands that were all in his beard. I turned and looked at my two buddy's next nodded my head followed by a smooth ass grin and wink cause in less than 5 sec. I'm going to meet my friend and hero. I turn round with my hand firmly out in guestor of shaking hands then .... WRONG ! As I almost made eye contact with my friend David , when out the blue he's done grabbed me , has me up against the wall and has a switchblade knife pulled and it breaks the skin slightly all the way up , drew blood, on the side of my neck... and very softly says into my ear. " Boy do you have any idea who in the F#°k I am ? Matter' fact I do Mr.Coe. your The David Allen Coe sir. Who ?? he asked, Say my last name again and spell it he softly sings into my ear again. Coe. , then I correctly spell Coe. Then tells me to never walk up to him again like that or I would get cut and robbed. He said "Get the f#°k back over there in line and hands me the switchblade knife still open says here it's yours , now he gets me and kicks me dead in the ass kinda hard and says "go back get in that line boy" . As I get to the street to cross my friend David yells. " Hey watch ye'self son ... (Long pause) .....the man will cite your ass for jaywalk , you dig. I still have that knife. Coe was on some killer blues shit in his early days. I feel like if he wasn't so eager to get into the country establishment he arguably wouldn't have been as successful but would garner way more respect from Actual musicians today.

DAC is a man of his environment....his childhood....the pen....a man of different times....sure some of his lyrics may have been racist in his early tunes....over his career he has shed that racism...i saw a recent live coe concert on tour w damage plan....his drummer was a black man....and his lyrics changed to working for a slave for my room and board....so yeah....this man is tried and true racist or not....coe is a man that speaks his mind....like it or not u have to respect it.....long live DAC......a timeless man....cultrural icon....
