We saw Danny with Don Henley during his solo tours. I was blown away, speaking of synths, when he played "New York Minute" and those "orchestral" sounds were coming from his guitar! What a great interview! I've been a fan for a verrrrry long time! ❤

Wonderful interview with Kootch as Danny used to be known. I first encountered him on Sweet Baby James back in 1970 I think it was. Great guitarist with a great legacy.

Peter Asher taught these guys how to think like a producer, it’s mind boggling how much the Beatles influence rained down on all of popular music. Peter of course was one of the first people to have a number 1 with a Beatles song, Paul McCartney was dating his sister Jane, during beatlemania, he was hired by Apple records to find talent, and he discovered James Taylor,Linda manager and producer, the connections are amazing ""

Brilliant player. His solo on "It's too late" is a thing of great wonder as was his live re-creation of it at the Troubadour in 2007. But he did contradict himself here early on claiming you only need one person to write a song not long before detailing his collaboration with Jackson Browne. You could shoot Leiber and Stoller, Rogers and Hammerstein, Jagger and Richards and many more back at him (not to mention his good Buddy Carole King and her ex). That said, the point he was making about modern-day songwriting confederations is bang on; couldn't agree more.

Danny is a lovely man and a good interview.
I first saw Neil Young when he was working at Coles bookstore while I was studying ballet upstairs in Toronto when he first played The Riverboat. At the time his father was more famous Scott Young was a renowned sports writer. Many years later when I was in my ranting as to why no Canadians had written biographies of Neil, Joni, Leonard his father had written a book called Neil and Me. You could not find it anywhere here. I found Scott Young was living in Peterborough Ontario and wrote to him. He strode across my lawn with an autographed copy of the book and it happened to be my birthday. I wanted to share this. His brother lives in Omeemee where Neil lived as a child.
There is a place in North Ontario. Neil Young is absolutely beloved in Canada in spite of the fact he is a Yank now. Neil Young at Massey Hall.
Neil looks a lot like his father now.

His solo on "Dirty Laundry" should have been mentioned, IMO.
I recommend to ALL reading my comment here to look up Linda from the Tonight Show Mar. 3, 1983. You’ll hear EXACTLY what he means by her sheer power of voice. When she launches into the Blue Bayou chorus, a cold chill will run down the entire length of your back - it did me anyway. The last tune, Easy For You To Say is simply phenomenal AND this clip features the great Andrew Gold, and Kootch!
Long been a fan of Kootch. People tend to associate him with the "big names" he has played with, but I find some of his best work was stuff that may have flown under the radar for many. His rhythm playing on the two albums he did with his band Jo Mama is terrific. I spent many an hour trying to nail his rhythm playing on "Love'll Get You High". Similarly, his work with the fusion band The Section was terrific. And while he played second fiddle to Kenny Pine, he was also a member of The Fugs for a little while.

In the 90s, he mix this song for a friend of mine, she said he was a real big a hole
I believe it. I was a low level producer for RCA records many, many, years ago. I worked with a few famous artists. Some fit that description exactly. I will say the more famous the artist the nicer they were.
I can’t deny he is a skilled guitarist especially in a studio setting but humble is the last word I’d use to describe Kootch.
I’ve known people who worked with him and asshole tended to be the universal descriptor. Probably a combination of ego & cocaine.

I still hate Neil Young’s, Landing on Water. Danny and Steve’s talents were wasted on it. My least favorite NY album up to ‘95. Neil wanted to make a Don Henley record. I’m getting pissed just posting this. It was a weird time for NY.
