In his 1938 essay "Literature as Equipment for Living", Kenneth Burke lays out his own mode of literary criticism, which he terms "sociological criticism". In this view, books are seen as solutions or attitudes that humans ought to take when facing particular life circumstances. This perspective aligns well with the recently popular "Lindy Effect".
