I’ve always liked this song, just cause they had the balls to do it!! This is my favorite video of this song! They requested their high profile friends send in little clips of them doing the rap section! They said they got some pretty bad ones, but wouldn’t name names..lol! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
I don't mind the song and I like how they treated the rap section and the fans liked it as well. The song itself really does have some great grooves and sounded pretty good here, good one for me.
At the Vancouver concert, I felt that this song kinda got the crowd into the concert. I was down front so most of us long timers were waiting for some older tunes. Even though the rap part is silly, loved seeing "celebs" doing the rap bit.
Just love the music under the rap section...love that they had the balls to write this song whether you like it or not it is a part of Rush lore...good version but Rio is my fave version with Al using the red SG🤘
There are a number of 70's Fender P-basses that have narrower necks. I have a '74 Fender P in the traditional 3-color sunburst but it's got a really thin and comfortable neck with a rosewood fretboard. It measures 1 & 5/8ths wide at the nut which is just slightly wider than the 1 & 1/2 inch width typically found on Jazz basses. My '73 Rickenbacker 4001 is actually wider than the P-bass at the nut and is not as comfortable to play. I recently had to replace the pickup in the P bass and stuck in a Fralin, sounds fantastic with a set of DR strings. There's a video on my channel of me playing it through an old Ampeg B-15S if you want to check it out.
I mean I'm definitely no bassist, I only recently picked up my first bass, but the majority of Geddy's tone comes from his right hand. As a guitar player I've always played bass with a pick, but now learning to play with my fingers I find myself going for that same sort of attack with the plucking. It just sounds so good, I've always loved Geddy's fat tone
So much of Geddy’s sound comes from his idiosyncratic right hand technique. It does sound a little different on the different basses, largely because of the different types of pickups. Less high-mid on the p-bass, for example. But yes, it just sounds like Geddy playing a p-bass.
Best song choice to resurrect from Roll the Bones for this tour. Maybe they could’ve went with Ghost of a Chance, but no, this is THE PARTY song needed for this set made better by the new rap video and it was out of the setlist long enough by this point (11 years). One of the few good song choices of this first set. Great job! 🐾
The rap doesn't age well, but the celebrity cameos performing it made it fun. And I guess a retrospective wouldn't be complete without the more questionable musical choices.
He played 2 different P-basses on this tour and I think they were the best sounding basses he used, punchy and grunty. Everything else seemed kinda 'blah'. He played them on this song and on Jacob's Ladder.
I don't mind some rap, but not Rush rap, even if they do get some stars on the screen. I liked your face when Alex couldn't hit that high bend. Good job Alex
I’m not a bass player. How hard would it be from your perspective to play this many different basses in one live show? I would think it would be difficult to adjust on the fly to the different feels and maintain a high level of performance? Do you find this impressive at all? Just curious.
Some players can jump on anything and feel comfortable. Some players are very partial to their gear.. I would always prefer to play my instruments than some instrument I'm unfamiliar with. He owns them all so I assume he has a handle on them. I don't specifically find it impressive.
I lost my shit when I saw this live and frikken Bubbles came on. Lol
I feel so lucky to have finally had a day off where I could see RUSH. Nobody knew that R40 would be the last tour.
I've always loved this song. The Why are we here? with Alex makes my heart sing.

The guest appearances make the rap section bearable. The parts with Peter and Paul are priceless. (If only they were able to get Mary.)
🤣

Why are we here
For the beers
Row the boats
Row the boats
This is an ok song for me. I now have finally caught up to your reactions! You have been going at warp factor 10 on these last videos. LOL
Love how Alex plays. The next chord, just a half beat before it's ready, in the verse. Very clever
Good Job Guys!
Why are we here? For the Beer 🍻 🍺 !! Roll the Bones😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥

RUSH RAP let’s do this…Bam 💥
It did make you smile!
I'm impressed that Geddy played all of those different Basses. And not screwed up.
You can definitely hear that signature clear, upper-midrange-y P-bass growl, but, at the same time, it sounds like Geddy.

Why are we're? Because we're here, Roll The Bones!
I would have loved it if their manager, Ray Danniels had been involved in the rap section for this tour.

Tone definitely comes a lot from right hand technique. I won't say all.. but a lot.
What bass will he play?
The show I saw at NOLA had a glitch and the video sync was off for the rap part🤘✌️🖖🥁🎸🎤🎹I think it was behind like it started a couple seconds late

it sounded fine to me - he just changed the melody slightly, going to a higher note than the original?

At least it’s better than mumble rap🤣
This song has grown on me but I still don’t love it. I will never get used to the rap section
No thanks.
