I got away from their music over the years, not out of disdain or malice, just listening to other music. These videos have brought me right back. What a solid group of musicians. Much appreciated!
literally the exact same for me haha used to listen to picaresque every day almost a decade ago and now, after many years they’ve become one of my most listened to bands again
I had never heard of them until a couple years ago, when someone told me Chris Funk was in the group. We grew up together in "Band". I think he played the sax, but can't remember (I was a drummer). Many years ago!
I lost my mom recently, and listening to The Decemberists is one of the only bittersweet things that help me. My little sister and I used to annoy her with The Hazards of Love and other various songs from their discography over the years. She came to enjoy them like we do after a while. I miss her so much, and listening to favorites like Shiny or Yankee Bayonet always seem to help dull the ache in a sad sort of way. ♥
I still remember the day I was first introduced to The Decembercists music! Was over 20 years ago...was raised by Punk, Gothic, Hardcore, the Seattle days, lots of singer songwriter stuff, Beeing a record collector my whole life....I truly love The Decembercists! Thanks
Love you guys. Listen to your music all the time. Thank you so much for being there for me through many research papers, cooking for dozens of people, just walking through the fields, driving long distances, and just chilling.
This was the first song I heard by the Decemberists. Learning that such amazing music was coming from Portland, only half a state away from where I lived, made my dream of a different life seem so possible and within reach. I was astounded at what I'd heard. Not just in love with the band and the music but amazed at the possibility that these people could be even accomplishing something this great. They later went on to top the Billboard charts. Now they play this song no more than 15 miles from my place as the crow flies. Did everything really change? Am I just doing what I would've done back there in Eastern Washington? I have no idea. But it's crazy how the same notes and words assembled in the same order can really just take you back to that place in time.
Have always loved this song, since I got that 5 song EP some years ago, and some years after its release! Being from early days, I don't think it's gotten as much exposure as it deserves. Loved the first two streaming concerts. Looking forward to seeing you in Saratoga in August.
Awesome, but I have to say this song is not complete without the pedal steel, and that’s an understatement. Disappointing, in that regard, for me personally. All the instrumentation in this performance is good though. Edit: the lack of people noticing/mentioning it in the comments is even more disappointing 😩
The thumbs down on this video is from The Rake who is still bitter about getting killed off in Hazards.

Same here. So begins the 20 or 30th career deep dive anew.

Your words is my words 🤜🏻🤛🏻
My experience exactly.
Can we all appreciate the bass player who was absolutely on point
Mr. Nate Query! He's the best.
He's probably been practicing!
@@slipfillhe’s been doing it since 2000!
It's hard to pick a favorite Decemberist song, but this is definitely in the running for me.

I'm sorry for your loss, but I know what you mean.
@@JennyNunemacher Thank you
Colin’s voice has really been on the up and up. What a beautiful song.
I know right
His voice really does seem to get better and better with each passing year
It problaby helps that he's been resting it. Beautiful.
100%. Especially after his voice injury in 2019 he really got better as he learned to take care of it.
Was so happy this song made it into the setlist, one of my all time favorites. Thank you for the virtual tour 💚💚💚
It's so cool that nick offerman plays the slide guitar
pretty sure that is just Duke Silver in disguise ;)

I was in band with Chris, had no idea he had made it (semi) big. They sound good.
Takes me back to better times to hear this again
Their music is literally the best, no excuses
No other music besides theirs has been my life’s soundtrack for a very long time now.
this and oceanside were constantly on rotation when i was a child, here i am maybe 16 years later still listening and even playing along 🎶
Definitely one of my fave Decemberists songs!
The best in the business. Looking forward to the next 20 years of the Decemberists'
oeuvre
Favorite song, like being wrapped in a warm blanket everytime I hear it
Here we are 23 years later.

Sublimely beautiful - one of my top driving tracks of all time - this song plus landscape momentum is pure kismet. Thank you for all the miles.
I was at all the live shows. I their tour shows nowadays would feel more like these.
I got to & will catch a concert
You guys are just so magical. Thank you for the art you create.
this band is so good wow where have I been
I was just listening to Tarkio the other day. I miss your old stuff, thanks for this! (I love your new stuff too, don’t worry)
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Thank you for the art you create!
Lovely. So great hearing them live in these clips.

Eu amo essa banda! I love this fucking banda!! Beautiful!!!
These have been wonderful, keep em coming!
Love these clips from their shows but still sad I didn't get to see them live for the 20 years before the mast tour
Sun, in Portland, in April? Impressive.
His voice seems so captivating!
I was today years old when I realized that Colin's instagram handle comes from this song
somehow i never heard this one before, and now it's become one of my favorites!
Have you heard Days of Elaine? That was my recent discovery of an old song that I now love.
@@JennyNunemacher it's beautiful
Give "Make You Better" a shot. That's a more recent one that (like "Shiny") can give me chills sometimes, it's so hauntingly beautiful.
@@jaerivus it's gorgeous too, and the official video is hilarious lol. shiny and crane wife 1,2 and 3 are very special to me
Among their very best and most tucked away in their repertoire
I miss Portland.
Pure love
Nice
❤️❤️❤️
I'd love to see Oceanside get some love.
Anyone know where this was filmed.
I think it's from the roof of their recording studio in Portland.
Not looking for attention btw lol but i go to school with jenny's niece
totally random but whenever I see this song being preformed Colin makes me think of Kermit the frog, not sure why.

Chris Funk is the best
