The voice acting was the dub was terrible back then and it's still terrible now.
Remake is pretty decent though.

These Japanese games are made by Japanese directors and staff and are thus made with Japanese in mind. The authentic way to play then is always Japanese. I have no idea why people subject themselves to dubs that are just outsourcing projects to a western company not involved in production.

They are used to dubs. I love JP , the give their all in voice acting . I hate chinese and watch donghua in JP dubs cause ENG can't portray those "foreign" characters. Few care enough to do it properly, why should i care about the work of the rest of them if they don't?

Dub isn't automatically bad. The original dub was not bad at all in comparison to this. Also people tolerate dub because sometimes we want to watch the show/cutscene and it's a bit harder to follow what's going on when you have to read it all.
