I, as a person living in the province of Russia (the city of Chelyabinsk), can say one answer, many brands, a lot of clothes, furniture left Russia, but in Russia there are always similar brands, though not always the best, the price of food has increased, from 10% to 200 %, but life in Russia has not changed significantly. I wish that all the troubles that began in the world, in 2022, end in 2023 and that people begin to live like in 2019, even before the coronavirus and war! :) Happy New Year! Happy 2023!

I have close family members in Russia and a lot of both Russian and Ukrainian friends…and I can’t see and meet them because of this brutal, devastating and stupid war. In general, it's a rotten culture with no morals, respect, value for human life, no loguc, no heart. therefore, no future. Whatever little spirituality they had left from the pre-Soviet era, - it's all gone. Maybe Rosenberg interviewed more and it was cut to fit a news program? A longer piece 40mins or an hour would be welcome. As someone has already commented I am surprised the regime that now puts the 'Z' symbol on the New Year decorations ie. has that control over minutiae lets the BBC free press commentate?! LOL! The human rat race is art! For a fully effective sanction on Russia, it would mean to destroy Russia as much as Russia are doing it to Ukraine, this means to destroy another biggest food basket of this planet, since Russia already destroyed Ukraine the big food basket, then to make the sanction on Russia successful, the world needs to the in the seat of the devil and destroy or partly destroy Russia. So the conclusion is that Putin already had this theory in mind, he pretty much knows too well himself is the devil to start it all with!
So much source of food and oil and supplies for the world would be destroyed when the world takes war on Russia, over 700 millions of people would die, this is what the stupid Russians are saying “The sanctions ain’t working, because NATO and UN are too soft and too much humanity! we as the Russians are the pure evil and knows too well how to kill populations off this planet!”.

If you apply here Jingle Bells song this video will immediately look happier. The video is about nothing because there's really not much changed, prices are maybe +5% , some of them got cheaper.
For me the most important change is a difficulty with payments while traveling ( I had to make another bank account and it's harder to get money from abroad)+ some flights became longer + I often got banned because I'm Russian. As for those who really fight in Ukraine: if you talk to real people who just came back from there - they'll tell you who they were fighting. There are proves, videos, photos that its not Ukrainians. As Russian, I can name few changes not mentioned here. Russia did changed a lot as HUGE amount of people, especially males left the country. This change can be noticed on the streets, in the bars and restaurants.
I work in IT, and the job market changed a lot too. Some companies has been closed, the noticeable shortage in open jobs happened. Also the salaries in IT, which were enormous comparing to the country average wage, has shortened or at least stopped growing. Some of my very educated professionala friends struggle to find a job, and I need you to understand, it was not a thing in Russian IT field for last years.
Also the atmosphere itsrlf has changed. Everyone is now expecting more shit to happen. Everyone feels helpless and see no efforts can change anything. For some, the problem of "father and son conflict" can be very noticeable, even "touchable in the air", as older generation falls for propaganda more, and younger generation less.
But there are changes rising inside minds, I did notice that on my parent as well as my friends. The older generation begins asking questions.

Moscow's forces have inflicted heavy losses on Ukrainian troops in the battle for Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, according to an assessment that comes as NATO warned the war could escalate into "full-fledged" conflict between Russia and the alliance.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on Friday that Russian forces had conducted assault operations in Bakhmut itself and to the north and south of the city in the Donetsk oblast, which is the center of fierce fighting.

On March 16, 2014, there were no volunteers from Russia in Ukraine. Girkin-Strelkov arrived in Slavyansk only on April 12, 2014. Tanks have been crushing unarmed people in Donbass since March 16, 2014. On March 20, the first participants in a rally against Turchinov and against the Nazis were killed in Kharkov. On May 2, 2014, the Nazis burned peaceful Ukrainian protesters in Odessa. In the Donbass, Ukrainian planes bombed parks and houses. Civilians died there. The war in Ukraine began on March 16, 2014. As a Russian who was born in the province city of Saratov and further migrated to Moscow for studying at the university, I witnessed some changes in the last February after the news about beginning that operation in Ukraine. First of all, the prices on some types of food immensely soared up by 10-30% and continued rising up to 50-70% approximately. As for high technologies such as gadgets and vehicles, they became really expensive within several months and almost unavailable to acquire. Some of my friends were interested in purchasing computers so much that they even made a huge trip to Kazakhstan in order to buy them at affordable prices. Secondly, the number of protests have increased but they haven't influenced anything significantly. Some people were extremely depressed by the news about all these events in Ukraine but the vast majority didn't pay much attention to this information. Nevertheless, despite everything that's taken place in this world for the last year, I still believe that the situation shall improve via people's solidarity and understanding of it.

Millions of Ukrainians have lost their homes, their careers, their relationships, their memories all due to your egotistical leader and it seems that Russians could care less with their only concern being rising prices which are also affecting the whole world. I could never understand why Russians can claim that they do not pay attention to the news , give me an effing break. Russians have always been cannibals. They are used to killing people in other countries. Even in the 20th and 21st centuries they keep on slaughtering other nations. Moldovans, Chechens, Georgians, Ukrainians, Syrians. During the whole history of Russia this country has had only 2 sources of income - war and natural resources. They never change. While killing people in Ukraine, they enjoy the holiday season. Murder for Russians is a routine.

@@laolao1466 What a load of bullshit you wrote! Have you ever been to Moldova, Georgia and Chechen Republic to make such provocative allegations? Do you understand how many Russians died in the 20th century and sacrificed their lives voluntarily to save their country from the nazi occupation as well as other nations of the Soviet Union? What was the number of Russians who suffered from hunger during the 1920-30s along with other Soviet nations due to the Soviet industrialization program? Several million peasants of different origins across the country were forced to leave their property and donate their money to the government in exchange for poor life without sources to exist. Approximately 26 million Soviets died in the ww2(roughly 11-13 million soldiers only). Besides, from your logical perspective, if we take a look at almost all countries of the world we'll see thousands of groups of tribes and nations exterminated or totally enslaved by more powerful and bigger nations. Does it mean we should call all of them cannibals as well just because of some dark moments of their history when they were ruled by tough regimes? I don't think so. Most of the peoples existing nowadays didn't pop up from nowhere. The territories they live on on a daily basis were somehow conquered and colonized many years ago. To be honest, I'm not trying to coax you into believing my words as justifying bad actions of your nation by giving examples of others doesn't change anything in reality we're all living in right now. However, it's one of the ways to demonstrate some Internet hypocrites like you what humanity have been going through. Have a good day!

@@fractalinfinity1750 I haven't been to all the countries where you kill people. Citizens from all those countries fled to Ukraine when Russian cannibals invaded their homeland, ruined their homes and killed their relatives. Chechens, Georgians and people from other countries invaded by Ruskies found their second home in Ukraine. But in 2014 you invaded Ukraine. Now the whole battalions and regiments of Chechens, Georgians are fighting against Russian cannibals in Ukraine. Have you ever wondered why Chechens and Georgians are fighting in Ukraine against you? Maybe because you ruined their home twice?
As for WW2, German nazi occupied only 5% of Russian territory. Most of Russians didn't even see those nazi in their country. Whereas Ukraine was TOTALLY devastated TWICE by nazi - during the offensive and when they retreated. Nazi killed 25% of the whole population of Ukraine and it took 25 years to return to pre-war demographics.
The famine you are referring to in Russia was a result of natural causes - draft. Whereas the Famine in Ukraine was artificial. Ukrainians had enough grain. But you grabbed it all. Moscow left Ukrainians without food. That's why millions of Ukrainians died. Not because of natural causes, but because of Russians who left them without food.
Of course, in Medieval times wild things could happen. But Russians have not noticed that those times are over. Russians still have a mindset of Medieval Asians or pre-historic cannibals. That's the problem. Nations are changing over time. Russian cannibals never change.

    • @fractalinfinity1750
      @fractalinfinity1750 Год назад +13

@@laolao1466 1) Ok, I'll ask you several questions. How many citizens left their countries for Ukraine in comparison to other states? What about those people who refused to leave their homeland and stay home? Most of them didn't migrate and live their lives peacefully in Georgia, Moldova and Chechen Rupublic. If Russians were so horrible killing people nowadays the number of refugees would be larger. Don't you think so? And yeah, how many citizens do Russians kill in those countries? In which parts of Moldova, Georgia and Chechen Republic do they kill them nowadays? Give me the links to your sources of information to prove your statement.
      2) The foreign military formations fighting in Ukraine consist of maximum tens of thousands of volunteers fighting the Russian army. It is almost nothing compared to the whole populations of those nations. To be honest, I've never wondered why some people from different nations have been fighting for Ukraine as I knew that there were volunteers on the Ukrainian territory who just wanted to fight for their own reasons such as revenge and fairness. The same took place in Donbass where there were volunteers from Russia fighting the Ukrainian troops for the people living there.
      3) As for the hunger caused by the industrialization program, I was writing about the process of expropriation of food and other kinds of property from peasants across the Soviet Union begun in 1929. It was further called "Раскулачивание". Several million self-sufficient wealthy villagers were forcefully deprived of their houses, cattle and were relocated to the East of the country. Thousands of them eventually died during the first years of living in the new places. The famine you've most likely mentioned was in 1921-22. It damaged people's lives in villages of Volga Region. The number of victims who died from hunger was up to 5 million people. The reason for hunger wasn't just a draft or a drought but a number of factors such as economic disturbance, drought, backwardness of technologies, expropriation of peasants' property by the Red army particularly and consequences of the Civil War in general. On the other hand, the great famine lasting for a few years in 1932-1933 was one of the percussions of the Party's policy led by Georgian Stalin. The key task was to conduct the industrialization of the whole country at the highest pace by accumulating all the resources and selling them to the West in exchange for machinery equipment.
The hunger and further cannibalism were widespread in almost all parts of the country where conditions were comfortable for conducting agriculture such as the central parts of Ukraine, Low and High Volga region, Kuban region, Northern Kazakhstan, Voronezh region etc. In other words, NOT ONLY Ukraine but other parts of the Soviet Union were also suffering from such brutal actions of local communists gathering bread and other kinds of food by force.
      4) As for the devastation of Ukraine and Belarus, it's easily explained. These Soviet Republics were geographically closer to the borders of the Third Reich. That's why they were the first territories bombarded by the Nazi planes and attacked by the enemy's soldiers. Then after the fast penetration of the German army in the Soviet lands they reached Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad. These 5% of territories you're talking about were inhabited by millions of people and they were much more significant in comparison to Siberia. The Blockade of Leningrad and Battle for Stalingrad took approximately 2 million lives of the Soviet soldiers and citizens of both cities. Besides, millions of Russians were the largest part of the Soviet army(5 million) and sacrificed their lives as well as other soldiers of different origins including the Ukrainians, Kazakh and others. Millions of Russian women and children were working 10-15 hours a day in factories evacuated to Siberian lands.
So, the fact that only 5% of the Russian territories were occupied by the Nazis doesn't mean the Russians didn't suffer compared to others. On the Russian lands the new weapons were getting constructed for the Soviet soldiers who were liberating that devastated Ukraine and Belarus from the nazis!
      5) The entire world is living in the 21st century with high technologies and progressive views. However, there're still some idiots starting wars and an ignorant narrow-minded commentator with the nickname Lao Lao who uses the word "Cannibal" in an inappropriate way and doesn't even know the meaning of that word. Keep imagining "cannibals" in places where there are none of them if you like it so much. At least, this is everything you can do here. Have a good day!

I don't think so: a large part of Russian society believes and support Putin, it's not just "one man policy". This means that for many Russians is acceptable to break international laws and invade another country. When they talk about peace, they mean "Russian peace", so a peace set on their will. Like Greeks says to Italian invaders (and as an Italian I still feel huge embarrassment for this) we must say "όχι" (no!)

I feel like people got sadder in general. Like me and my friends (students in Moscow) don’t talk about our future plans anymore. It’s just feels hopeless. Society have divided so much that most people just want to hide away and not talk about any of it, even though we used to talk a lot about politics with my friends for example. However, when you constantly see news about politicians, activists and journalists fleeing the country, being locked away or beaten by police without any rights for justice that’s what makes you feel worthless because you can’t affect any of it. I feel like people just try to enjoy smaller things instead now, like family and friends gatherings, we just try to pretend that any of it won’t affect us at the end of the day.

I was a military (have not participated in the war) in the moment when it all has begun. If February 24th seemed to us soldiers as surrealism and intense nightmare, do you think the civil society really would be excited to find out about the it?
This woman from the video who supported the invasion said not what the truth was about the SMO for her, it's rather what is in haste made up justification to relieve horror in her mind.
I live in this society and I understand that people would love to ignore the war, because it's too painful. Uncertain Future, real friends drafted and dead. This is purgatory.

When you say "they" you mean Muscovy or some of the other republics within Russia?
That's like trying to pin the Carthaginian war on Rome, or the Crusades on the HRE or WW1 on Austria-Hungary.
Those states doesn't exist anymore today. So a few years down the line there might not be a Russia or people that call themselves Russian.
Sadly that is partly why this war is happening.
Should a "nice" person be elected Russia that would allow freedom of expression it would fall apart very quickly. Like in the early 90's with the Chechen War.
This is Russia and always have been. Like a shark it has to keep moving forward, or risk sinking and drowning.
