  • @johnnolen8338
    @johnnolen8338 2 года назад +1

    "When z is positive seventeen ..."
    In the given instance there is no reason to consider z = - 17 as a legitimate solution to the Pythagorean identity; z is the hypotenuse of a right triangle, both of the legs of which are positive. IOW even the reference angle of the hypotenuse is positive. Minus seventeen is extraneous.

    • @neillawrence4198
      @neillawrence4198 2 дня назад +1

      For anyone reading this years later, x^2 + y^2 = z^2 is the standard form of an equation of a circle with center at the origin (0,0) and a radius of sqrt z. Z should only be positive since a negative radius is a no-no. I think.

    • @johnnolen8338
      @johnnolen8338 2 дня назад

      @neillawrence4198 Nice observation. It isn't that a negative radius is a "no-no," it's more that a radius is a distance. As such, if you have a negative value for it then you can always recast it as positive but pointed in the opposite direction.

    Hi, I have a question for the both equation, is it okay to get the derivative before going to get the value of the variable? or getting the value of the variable before going to get the derivative of the equation?
