• Ozark Trail Dropout 1 ...
The closing problem you see in the video where the knife doesn't close all the way and forces itself back open only really happens under the camera. This is common for knives with the crossbar lock, not a big deal if you don't plan on making videos on it.

@@knivesiguess It lasted 5 hours?
On the new edge yeah
Damn. Wish I could edit videos after posting.
It's all good. Correction in the description or something.
@@knivesiguess Pinned this instead.
I still find it hilarious that we've taken to calling this the "Dropout". Never figured my nickname for this knife would take off like that.
@@thepunisher2 it's all your fault. Your nickname for this knife is now on my best performing longform video. 😂
Something else I noticed too besides the upgraded steel and smoother axis lock on bearings. The full length liners are skeletonized. I know that’s a small detail, but it’s not something we’ve seen them do a lot on the previous generations. They’re learning.
@@blackbirdtactics8250 the bearing are a big difference that I wish I would've remembered. That is quite uncommon in crossbar lock knives.
Dude the explanation of the board was above and beyond. Great video. Hold this like button.
Btw bought 5 of the Walmart knives today for my church boys when we go camping as a gift. I wish I knew how to test the blade to see if it is really D2. It is still really hard to believe.
@@truecross4090 Glad you enjoyed the video, I'm doing my best to show what people are buying. I had it tested. This is a link to my community post about how the testing turned out.

Now that I have that Ozark Trail and have had some time with it, I can say it's definitely worth the $10.
Pros:
The D2 blade steel seems very hard and sharpens to a very crisp edge. This blade is not only better than ANY Ozark trail knife I've ever seen, but it seems better than the well known brand-name knives I have in D2.
The action is ridiculously smooth, and the lock-up is reliable with little to no blade-play. You can very easily thumb-flick, spidey-flick, or fling it open, and fling or drop it shut.
Solid feel and good ergos, with good weight, while still being fairly light (about 2.8 oz)
Small details: Deep carry clip with tip-up orientation. lanyard hole. Grippy lock buttons. Slotted pivot collar (won't free-spin). Oxide blackened blade and screws wont chip or flake off. Well centered blade.
The price!!! You're not going to find a knife this good for $10 anywhere else... unless OT keeps doing this 🤞
Cons:
Clip screws and upper body screws were threadlocked in place. (Cannot disassemble knife for maintenance/repair).
Ozark Trail Logo, and CHINA on blade (but no D2 marker?)
Right handed carry only.
Polypropylene scales feel a bit slick, and are a cheap sub for FRN. They offer a similar feel, and chemical resistance, but lack the heat resistant or strength of FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon).
Only available in orange, and color varies slightly from unit to unit, or even on the same unit, with one scale looking darker than the other. (TIP: These Polypropylene scales will readily accept RIT Dye-More dye for synthetic materials. I made mine jet-black)
@@flatasacueball6326 I didn't bring it up because I hadn't tried it yet, but from factory, it sliced through paper towels with ease.
The closing problem you see in the video only really happens under the camera. The limited amount of space under the camera makes it hard to close. It's so fidgety. I literally couldn't stop flipping it when talking about the steels. 😂
Just had this OZARK TRAIL delivered to me yesterday (Wednesday August 21st) and I love it especially for only $9.97 and tax. I never thought I would say that before. I can't get over how good this knife really is. I don't think these will last long before they are sold out.
@@royalhoward2882 it took me 3 days to get one. They were sold out 3 days in a row. Restocked at 11 am every day and sold out by 3 pm. For 3 days straight.
@K.O.Knives Yea these are going to sell out completely and they will have to make more for sure. I subscribed to your channel also.
I can't believe you're convincing me to try ANOTHER Ozark Trail. I thought I was done with that! I've been hurt so many times. I don't know if my heart can take another ....
You can do this boo boo. We're here for you
It's not THAT bad. I promise pookie. 🤣
Oh hell oz gotta another one!! 10 bucks this is the new budget king for sure!! Can any other company do this , nope they gonna want 100 just for the. D2!!
@@airr6434 There's a few companies out there doing D2 for $40. It's definitely the first time I've seen a full sized knife in D2 for $10 though. Here's a link to my full review if you're interested. It's only 5 minutes.

I have that Gordon, and it's one of my favorite knives. I fully customized mine with blue stripes on the scales, a wave-opener mod, a heat colored clip (deep purple-blue to gold transition), and a lanyard with an anodized titanium bead to match the clip.
I have Kershaw, Boker, Spyderco, and Benchmade knives and still carry that Gordon instead sometimes. I'm about to get that Ozark Trail too... and some black dye.😉
@@flatasacueball6326 be sure to look up how to dye this stuff properly I've heard on Reddit it's a little temperamental.
@K.O.Knives ngl, you had me worried for a bit. Fortunately, I had no troubles whatsoever. After about 1 minute in a hot dye bath of Rit Dye-More Charcoal synthetic dye and a little dishsoap, it was considerably darker. I left it in for about 15 minutes for full saturation, and it came out completely black. I couldn't get 2 screws out, so I had to dip the whole knife, but that worked fine since the scales were the only material that could accept the dye. I just rinsed and dried it very well, and re-oiled the pivot afterward. There is no trace left of that safety-orange color, and you could never tell by looking at it that it wasn't made with black plastic. 😁
@@flatasacueball6326Glad to hear it all worked out. I've heard a few people say it doesn't accept dye very well on Reddit.
Hell yeah bro hit the algorithm
@@leon_goopy it took a while, but I'm glad I'm going places. Thanks for noticing. 😂
Card Board chart, EMP proof Excel, Analogy spreadsheet, metallurgical composition table. Well done and👍 !
@@3vil3lvis I like that. EMP resistant spreadsheet.
Wow, was this the first video on the Ozark Trail 7.5 Inch Folding Knife aka Walmart’s Benchmade Bugout clone?
@@akforge As far as I know, my video was the third video on this knife. @knivesiguess had the second video, and one person before him made a short.
Picked up two this morning. Sliced my bagel with it and opened some mail. Ozark trail really knocked this one out of the park with the ball bearings and D2. The cross bar is a little loose / floppy feeling... but thats a minor - minor nit pick
@@MuvoTX I've had a couple quality control issues with mine, but they're all cosmetic. Overall, I'm impressed.
Mines on the way ur chart is like the periodical chart of elements 😅 luv 8t 😊
@@rcjoe406 that chart is super useful.
The Ozark knife might get better as the handle and edges will smooth out after carrying it in your pocket with your keys for about 6 months. Normally I don’t like it when that happens with most pocket knives but it will improve the feel of this one.
@@milododds1 the problem with that is I only carry each knife for a week. I don't get enough pocket time to cause pocket patina.
Maybe put it in a casing tumbler with some tape over the edge before closing blade. I’ll give that a try.
@@K.O.Knives even after about a week, it's actually smoothly out the handle. Yeah 6 months is overkill.
Subbed. Great presentation fella. Bought 4 myself, with the same gifiting idea as you.
@@stevegillespie6424 appreciate the sub! If I had extra money, and a pawn shop I enjoyed wasn't closing at the end of the month, I'd buy a few more.
I got one ! Unbelievable
Glad to hear it, hope you enjoy it!
I dunno, maybe The Periodic Table of Knives
I need more options. 😂
It’s a meh for sure. Ok for 10 bucks but not worth driving around town to find one.
@@tao265 I wouldn't drive around too far to get one, no. It isn't a miracle knife.
Nice spreadsheet, thx. subbed
Appreciate the sub. I'm happy the spreadsheet helped a few people.
Why are manufacturers still designing and making knives that are right hand carry only in 2024?! They went with an ambidextrous lock mechanism. Why not make the clip reversible. It wouldn't add any real cost.
@@caoimhin7122 honestly, that's a great question. I'd ask, but I doubt Walmart cares what I think. 😅
What about calling the board THE STEEL SCORE?
I'll think about it. Surprisingly, I actually have a few options to choose from.
Just picked one up. It’s dang good for 10 bucks
@@wampa4321 agreed. Hard to beat for the price. Have yet to get any major functionality issues other than when you try and loosen the pivot screw to take it apart, it won't close anymore until you re-tighten it.
The Harbor Freight 2.9" drop point. It's a 2.9" drop point blade..... 😂
I know, pointing out the obvious. 😂 2.9 inch drop point is the name of the knife.
@K.O.Knives It's not on the package, but the name or model designation for that knife is actually GK21 (Gordon Knife #21).
When I purchased mine, it was labeled as 3.6" drop point knife. Sometime after I bought it, they changed the error on the packaging to 2.9" and added the jimping to the back of the blade (mine had none, so I had to cut my own). Even the first reviews of it I saw showed the old model, with no jimping, labeled as 3.9"
BUDGOUT! WOOO!
@@Lardfist0 Cheap bugout kinda.
Cardboard o chemistry
I'll add that to the list. That one might actually make it.
Lockup? Flex? Wobble? Disassembly for cleaning?
@@phild8095
Lockup: Great
Flex: Not without considerable effort

@@K.O.Knives Thank you. Appreciate it.
I've seen different people comment on the steel advantage, but not on the simple qualities of the knife itself. Thanks again.
