I travel to Iran frequently, such an amazing place, contrary to all what we hear in the mainstream media, I’m a Sri Lankan, I meet a lot of People from the subcontinent who have been living there from centuries, signs of a huge Sikh community is very prominent as I stumble upon many at the airport. Such an amazing place and Persian people are the best!

What is there not to love about Sikhs?! They gave us the bravest son of Mother India-Sardar Bhagat Singh. Not just him, Sardar Kartar Singh, Banda Singh Bahadur ji, Maharaja Ranjit Singhji- the list is never ending. Then the whole year long langar, Sikhs are indeed one of the greatest souls in India.

In fact Sikhs have been in Iran since 1918 at the end of the 1st world war. When the british left Iran, many of the army sikhs remained in iran and set up a base in Zahedan (dushtdoab) . It was due to the number of sikhs living in this town that the Shah's father changed its name to Zahid-an or place of fakirs.Both of my grandfathers settled here and brought up there famillies here too.
I see Iranian people through the eyes of Omar Khayyam and if an Iranian extends a hand of friendship, you know you are friends for life. I am still in touch with Mohd. Reza Kharkia from Teheran whom I got to know in the 70s. This is a Sikh quality many Iranians possess, of being human. A very mature civilisation like India's!!!

That's good to know that our iran is diverse in everyway that many iranians in the U.S. unfortunantly don't know or care to know about. There are also buddhists and hindus in iran and african zaars to name some other religons.
Singhs are the real Kings. They always think of others before themselves. Their religion teaches selflessness. I’m not Sikh but have seen them and their work for humanity closely. Their generosity speaks for itself. You will never see a Sikh beggar in India or else where. Their dignity is that of a lion. That’s why they are Singhs.

I have a question for Sikhs residing in Iran--- are you guys vegetarians? I am asking because on my flight from LA to Delhi a sikh gentleman sat next to me. He told me that Sikhs in America are mostly vegetarian because its written in Guru Granth sahab that way. Now, I have come across many Sikhs in California who tell me they are pure vegetarians. This includes sikh doctors as well who order only vegetarian food in restaurants I have been to. Now this is confusing--- because in India Sikhs mostly are NOT vegetarians. Si guys would anyone like to enlighten me about this please... dhanyavaad-- shukriya in advance
Guru dont alkow us to eat meat. Thats why langar is always a veg meal. But those who eat is their personal choice. And in india more then half os sikh population dont eat meat. How i know this, i am a sikh myself

The best part is the Persian people who were Zoroastrians had no 'Sa' (as in Sanskrit) sound in their language, so they used to pronounce it as 'Ha' sound. Thus, the word Sindhu (people of Indus lands) got known as Hindu as they called us by that name. Both are idol worshipper civilizations and way older plus deep rooted than christianity or islam with absolutely zero evangelism involved.

In fact Sikhs have been in Iran since 1918 at the end of the 1st world war. When the british left Iran, many of the army sikhs remained in iran and set up a base in Zahedan (dushtdoab) . It was due to the number of sikhs living in this town that the Shah's father changed its name to Zahid-an or place of fakirs.Both of my grandfathers settled here and brought up there famillies here too.

I have a question for Sikhs residing in Iran--- are you guys vegetarians? I am asking because on my flight from LA to Delhi a sikh gentleman sat next to me. He told me that Sikhs in America are mostly vegetarian because its written in Guru Granth sahab that way. Now, I have come across many Sikhs in California who tell me they are pure vegetarians. This includes sikh doctors as well who order only vegetarian food in restaurants I have been to. Now this is confusing--- because in India Sikhs mostly are NOT vegetarians. Si guys would anyone like to enlighten me about this please... dhanyavaad-- shukriya in advance

ofcourse, if one looks back at history the original aryans of (predominantly) north india had migrated eastwards centuries (or millenia) ago. i did wonder about the correlation between the words "Iran" and "aryan".. perhaps denoting a shared history/migration of the aryan race. The first sikh Guru 'Nanak' was said to be multi lingual in arabic/farsi & punjabi & hindi, as was Guru Gobind Singh. in short, the peoples of north india, Rajistan (&pakistan) afghan, & iran all have similar/common ancestory somewhere along the line

DJ Delete. You have little idea about Ancient India and Aryanam so let's not modify the fact that I have written. If you have any doubts, go to a good library and read some books on the above topic. The best part is the Persian people who were Zoroastrians had no 'Sa' (as in Sanskrit) sound in their language, so they used to pronounce it as 'Ha' sound. Thus, the word Sindhu (people of Indus lands) got known as Hindu as they called us by that name. Both are idol worshipper civilizations and way older plus deep rooted than christianity or islam with absolutely zero evangelism involved.
