Hi Jim’s wife! Non-technical comment here. I do love the vacuum chamber footage, but nothing beats the bucket fight! And the battle to remove the poly from the second casting…more of that, please.
Agreed, before the turning starts, it's the bucket fight first, then the vacuum chamber. Of course, once the turning starts, all bets are off & the actual work takes all my attention!!
Hello to Jim’s wife. You need to make an appearance on a show, so us non-technical commentators know who we are conversing with. I fully understand and glad you are willing to come along side and help. Love the Designer Epoxy as always.
Sorry Jim, I haven't commented in a while but I still fall asleep many nights to your vids. Watching you do magic is far better than falling asleep to the crappy news... I have recommended your channel to many PTSD vets/orgs. to turn off the world for a while and relax before sleep w/your art and others' just like you...I'll bet you never thought you'd become a therapist huh? Tanx, on behalf of many who sleep better these days...❤🤍💙
I do the same thing! I did it in the middle of the live. I could NOT sleep last night. Half way through the video I passed out cold. I was so happy. lol
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would *LOVE* a 100% bucket fight video. Maybe with the 1812 Overture or The Anvil Chorus playing in the background. Or In the Hall of the Mountain King.
I thought I was the only one who finds the vacuum chamber so satisfying, lol. I love the simplicity of this piece and Epoxy is pretty impressive! Designer Epoxy.
life demands googly eyes! My 25 year old caught me putting googly eyes on packages at Safeway. When she was done cry laughing, she asked OMGosh Mum, where did you get those? And how long have you been doing this?! Since I was 21 Hahaha! Life is better when spent laughing & making others laugh too. Your wife is my kinda people, Jim! This piece is beautiful! I love birds eye maple!! Bravo!!
I really appreciate the "go with the flow" attitude you take toward approaching any struggles during your creative process. It's also so cool that you include the commentary of how you troubleshoot your way out of these sticky situations. It really makes your channel sort of a stand alone in this corner of YT. This level of authenticity is refreshing. Please don't ever change 👍🏼
Like any true artist you let the piece speak to you for the design. This is just one of the things I love about this channel. I have been re-watching your past videos and I can say I am very happy you decided to keep talking to us! I love your teaching and sense of humour.
A very sleek contemporary piece! As you were finishing this piece I was thinking that it would also have made a beautiful open top ambiance lamp. Wonderful!
I have to compliment you on your commitment to transparency. Showing your mistakes ("unexpected outcomes"?) and noodling through how you deal with them is very educational - and interesting! DESIGNER EPOXY
I really like the overall simplicity of the piece. The combination of the really cool looking birds eye maple with the awesome looking epoxy works really well!
Love how you problem solve as you go along, as well how develop your creations as you turn. Love the bird's eye maple and colour choice. I always look forward to Friday's to watch your next creation. Amazing what you can make from fire wood!
Welp, now that you have let the cat out of the bag it can't go back in, so from now on we know to say hello to your wife in the comments. Thanks for helping Jim out, Mrs. Jim! If this keeps up you might have to recruit other family members someday. Lol! This piece went through quite the journey but it came out a winner at the end. So pretty! It's a pleasure and a privilege to support what Jim does and your family. PS: The googly eyes on Dwayne the Rock is the thing I needed today that I didn't know I needed!
Another great piece. The bird’s eye is gorgeous. Not as big a fan of the epoxy color this week, but every color isn’t for everybody. Still a great piece. Designer Epoxy
After your initial struggle, this piece ended up very beautiful and unique. I love the straight line form you used and the colors are great. The maple really shines through
Its important you do what you love. If you don't love it, it will start to be just a job and that isn't why you started doing these gorgeous works of art. I know with my crocheting i have done a few blanket i didn't want to and i didn't like it much. I love learning new techniques in crocheting. Best wishes to you and your family.
Hi Jim's Wife! 👋 This is a great piece, and all the talk of the peacock areas reminded me of that stretch of videos a few years ago working on peacock color separation. Those were fun! I don't care if you make big pieces, small pieces, epoxy, inlays, or what. You're the artist, and I'm here to watch you create! Thanks so much for these videos.
Your videos purely give me joy. I look forward to every Friday when you post. It also helps me sleep on the weekends. I play your videos on repeat over the whole weekend!!❤❤❤
Another gorgeous piece Jim! I really like the ripple look of the maple. And a special thanks to the mrs for helping out! Thx and take care Designer Epoxy
“Stately” is an excellent word to describe your design aspirations. despite the bucket struggles and all the thermal cracking, this one still turned out nice. lots of cool possibilities for that ring that was cut off as well! Designer Epoxy
I like the way you work. It is like you let the piece tell you what to do. There is something calming about the vacuum chamber footage. Bonus content…cut footage from multiple videos together and some soothing music in the background. The color mix you get with the epoxy is stunning. It reminds me of the sky on a starry night. Another great piece.
Can’t believe that wood was in your fire wood. Always fun to watch the bucket fights and vacuum chamber. Your wife had a great idea to give Dewayne some character. I appreciate the reply’s to my comments but not necessary as busy as you are with the building of your new shop. Designer epoxy.
This piece deserves a chef's kiss! I love the bird's eye and the Designer Epoxy colors you used are suh great compliment! The purple looks... delicious 😂. It's the same color of my favorite Black Forrest gummy bear 😂😂😂 I missed last week's video, so I appreciate you linking it! I think you made the right call deleting the punky wood. This made a great vase! Whoever gets it will have a beautiful piece of functional art!
Hi Jim & Mrs S. Love the birdseye maple. I also love the vacuum chamber sequences, as well as the buffing/denatured alcohol bits. Very relaxing with mini reveals.
Designer Epoxy. Nice solution to the problem of the thermal cracking and the look of the chalice with the hyper-shift translucence gave a beautiful piece.
I love the combo of the birdseye maple and the layers of the epoxy colors. As for the shape, I love it! I think you should do more like it. Keep up the great content and thanks so much for my Friday morning RUclips treat!!
Jim, what another beautiful piece you’ve made! It is so different from your other pieces, but I love the masculinity of this vase. The straight lines with the birds eye in the wood and the epoxy colors, especially with the hyper shift in it, makes it all come together beautifully. Whoever gets this piece will definitely have a statement vase that their family and friends will gravitate towards. Happy New Year to you and all your family and friends 🎉!! Hopefully you made it back to your home without getting blown over from that wind 😂😂
This is beautiful. Simple and elegant. Love the birdseye. As for best parts of the videos: Jim vs the bucket, the talk overs with background info, 1st coat of water lux. I always wanted to turn wood but never did. I love the process
I’m new to the channel. I like watching you turn and listening to your thought process. My dad made lamps and billy clubs and I would watch him and found it fascinating. He being gone over 30 years and I still have his last unfinished piece, he was trying his hand at candle sticks. Thanks for the memories.
I enjoy your videos very much, keep doing what you’re doing. This piece made me smile. You were talking about keeping the straight lines and I thought how much it looked like an old fashioned milk churn. I imagined a large lidded container, somewhere to keep your rice 🙄.
Hi Jim & your wife, love this new design. I was & wasn’t shocked about the Designer Epoxy not doing a ton of flash curing. I think you have shown that it’s the best epoxy’s or at least at the top of the best I’ve seen anyone use. So glad you were able to get your son & brother-in-law(BIL) to help you on the duct work for the new work shop. It’s always nice to have help with the things you are needing done. I wish I could say I have people to help me. God bless, take care & have a blessed day. Sending y’all prayers & love from the US.🙏🤗💗
Dwayne looks awesome with his googly eyes, excellent suggestion Jim's wife. As per usual another amazing happy accident creates an awesome piece, keep it up Jim. 🎉
Another beautiful piece, Jim. I love the color choices; they are beautiful together. Thanks Jim’s wife for coming alongside Jim and helping. 🎉Happy New Years🎊 to you both😊
I love your wife so much. Dwayne definitely needed eyes. I laughed so so hard. Love the piece as always. Those colors of designer epoxy are amazing! I love that simple form too It lets the wood and epoxy speak for its' self. One day I will own a Sprague original. Thanks for all that you do. Love your work.
I love the simple shape. The foot is really what I like on this piece. The colors of the epoxy seemed to really change as they mixed in the setting of the resin. You know I love hypershift. Thanks for your talent sharing!
It always amazes me how Designer Epoxy makes pieces like this possible. beautiful piece. I love the birds eye maple. the rays in it remind me of white oak. Very nice piece.
Thank you for put out these videos I am not a turner but really enjoying them, also thank you for the updates on the building of the new work shop they are both most interesting and enjoyable. Many thanks
Good looking project! I like the birds-eye maple, and the design epoxy works well with the design. I think that the shape is basic and functional. You would not be afraid to actually use this as a vase with dried flowers or on the kitchen counter to hold large spoons, etc, so people will actually be able the see the piece.
I love the "masculine" shape on this piece, very simple and it fits with the straight lines of the wood and the streaks of the birds' eyes. Lovely result!
When you started mixing the colors I said "Ooo! The Hyper-shift is going to be its own color"! It did not disappoint. Thank you Mrs. S for helping Jim with his comments. I appreciate that he (or you) have responded to every comment I have made since I subscribed, probably at least 3 years ago. Also thanks for suggesting that Dwayne needed eyes. He is a part of most videos and you just gave him a personality! Happy New Year to both of you.
Hi Jim’s wife. 😊 Love the vacuum and also mixing up the colours. All best to Duane too - glad he can see what’s going on now! Awesome vid, as usual! 🇬🇧
Wonderful, Dwayne is given personality, just as you expose the deep persona of the wood, and Designer Epoxy holds it together..all the best to you Jim and your family in 2025. As the lathe turns, so does time and faster every year!
The googly eyes on Dwayne are hilarious…hats off to your wife for her sense of humor. Nice piece as usual!
Damnit! I gotta stop reading comments when I haven’t finished the video yet

Hi Jim’s wife! Non-technical comment here. I do love the vacuum chamber footage, but nothing beats the bucket fight! And the battle to remove the poly from the second casting…more of that, please.
Too funny, thanks!
I’ll second the preference for the bucket fight to the vacuum! Another great piece.
Agreed, before the turning starts, it's the bucket fight first, then the vacuum chamber. Of course, once the turning starts, all bets are off & the actual work takes all my attention!!
The bucket fight is the best! I feel quite cheated when the casting comes out easily lol
Love love love the purple!!!! Beautiful piece 😊
If I could double-like this video, I would. We got googly eyes, an epic bucket fight, a plastic fight, and a lovely vase. 👍👍
Thanks so much! 🤣🤣
Dwayne's eyes are a delight. Glad he can finally see. Really like the profile of the vase. Another inspiring turning.
Hello to Jim’s wife. You need to make an appearance on a show, so us non-technical commentators know who we are conversing with. I fully understand and glad you are willing to come along side and help. Love the Designer Epoxy as always.
Agreed... It would be nice to "meet" Mrs. S at some point (and a name might be nice too!)
I love Dwayne's character. As for the shop build, having a custom space is awesome in itself. The possibilities are endless.
The Birds Eye Maple really gives this character. The lilac, gray/black and hyper shift really shows through. Another stunner.
Sorry Jim, I haven't commented in a while but I still fall asleep many nights to your vids. Watching you do magic is far better than falling asleep to the crappy news...
