    The worst part of the movie is where Chris Rock goes “Jigsaw doesn’t target cops!” A cop dies in nearly every movie!

    • @coughedfeathers1292
      @coughedfeathers1292 Год назад +6

      The line isn't very clear and I definitely agree- cops die in every saw film basically. What I think he's trying to say is "Jigsaw didn't have it out for cops *specifically*."
      Anyone who Kramer didn't think appreciated thier life or pissed him off in one way or another (because lbr some reasons ppl got tested were tenuous at best) got slung into a torture trap. If that person was a cop, then a cop went into a torture trap. But when he was following his own ethos that he spoke about so much (and there was a fair amount of time he was just a straight up hypocrite)- he wasn't targeting cops just *because they were cops*.
      This copycat was exclusively going after ""dirty cops"", that was their whole deal. I think that *that* is what they were trying to say- albeit communicating it rather poorly.

    It had such a good premise - put Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson in a “Saw” film and have them act like you would expect. This was one of the rare movies that ended and I think I said “you gotta be fucking kidding me” when the credits began to roll. There was a halfway decent attempt at including BLM/cops commentary in there, but it didn’t entirely work either. Really disappointing, there could have been a great movie in this but it just felt like such a limp attempt where the premise deserved a better film.

      @@CHRISPYakaKON I heard it was proposed to be a trilogy, but dunno if that will still happen or not. I was so frustrated by the ending (first of all, I dunno why Rock’s character didn’t just play along and say he was gonna do what he was being asked to do, even if he didn’t plan to follow through with it). And then the abrupt finish really sullied everything that came before it. I think I liked what they were TRYING to do with it, but I don’t think they really succeeded at it. I’d watch a sequel to it still, but I wish they did more with what they had in Spiral itself, instead of trying to build a new franchise out of it.

  • @motherplayer
    @motherplayer 3 года назад +1

    Chris was at his best in the film in that one sequence when he and his new partner were talking about the hurdles of marriage life as a cop. He felt the most natural there. Any other time, he was really straining. Geez, those sequences when he's raising his voice almost comes off more comical because he is just so stilted when doing that.....
    Will give the movie this much: this is a much better idea for the franchise than doing some Kramer Prequel or trying to get another person to legit take up the legacy.

    ------------------------------------------------------------ SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH THIS WHOLE VIDEO -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    This movie was...ok to me. Fine for what it was. But it's soul problem lies in the fact that it tries so hard to point you away from the partner as the big bad that it gives away the fact that it was him by forcing a fake-out killing for no reason.
    The partner was too new to have done anything corrupt so "killing him" made NO SENSE to the storyline. Even the writers themselves had no real way to explain it so they mute the tape audio and give no flashback to the "death". They could have just as easily had another cop who was, say, running a protection racket and was strong-arming the butcher shop when it was still a toy shop which forced it to go under. Now you have a reason for the killing to happen there, a person to kill, and it even gets to be symbolic because the person was a cop who gets skinned like a pig in a butcher shop that used to belong to the person they drove out of business...a business tied to Chris Rock's past. The partner could have continued to play the part until the reveal at the end at the same moment in the story and nothing needed to change. Instead what we're given is a killer who gives himself away at the half-way point and an unexplained skinned man.
    Seriously, WHO WAS THAT? A random civilian off of the street? A drug dealer? A pimp? Another dirty cop? A cadaver from the morgue? Who knows?
    Sloppy writing.

    Spiral Explained in 10 words:
    Marty the Zebra fails to stop revenge scheme against cops...

  • @laurendearnley9595
    @laurendearnley9595 3 года назад +52

    They could have made this movie infinitely better if they hadn't revealed who Spiral was so early. Firstly, make it so the partner is missing and is being presented as bait for Zeke by Spiral rather than the blatantly fake death that was in the film.
    When Zeke walks into that room to confront Spiral after his old partner died, it should have been a TV giving a similar speech about ending corruption before he goes into the room with his dad and the new partner in traps. So he has to choose - save his father and the corrupt system, or save his idealistic partner and start things anew. He picks his dad, but that's the trap, and then his dad is killed by the other cops while Spiral makes a getaway in the elevator, having planted evidence that Zeke was Spiral, setting up a sequel where he's fighting for his innocence.
    It would have hit all the same beats but revealing Spiral at the last second rather than 10 minutes before would have given us that wham moment we expect from Saw.
    And Chris Rock was bad. He's an amazing comedic actor but just bad in this. The stupid squinting constipated face whenever he was trying to be serious, and the scene where his old partner murdered that guy looked like it was from a skit show.

The opening sequence literally made me think, "Is this supposed to be a movie within a movie? This can't be the real film. Someone is going to yell 'cut' at any moment." I swear to God, that's honestly what I thought. The cast was great but the writing was bad and the acting was wooden (probably because the dialogue was so unnatural). I was just bored and confused. This film had a good premise but was my least favourite saw film. It felt more like a cop film with horror elements than a Saw film as it didn't really follow the vibe of the previous films. Plus the twists were predictable.

    This movie could've revived a dead franchise, but it drove the final nail in the coffin.

      I think that was Jigsaw. This was more like someone kicking the coffin to check if they was ok.

    The traps in this were rigged which didn’t really make sense, and I thought was Amanda in this movie but like nope. Mega plot twist. And I did not take that well.

    Do you have any idea how annoying you were calling the legendary Jigsaw “Kramer” over and over again…? If you just carried on The whole video, calling the stars “rock“ and “Jackson“ etc… maybe I wouldn’t have cringed so hard 🙄🧩
