My method: Buy from produce section. Forget to use them and leave in the fridge for a while. Remember them but don’t have ingredients to make anything with them. In an attempt to keep them fresh longer, plant them in a pot, water well, and place them outside in full sun on concrete patio. Forget about them since the internet told you to. Get attached since they continue to survive despite neglect and want to see them thrive. Decide to plant them in the ground outside in full sun because you’re really just curious at this point how long they will live for. Forget about them for a year. Stumble across them in your garden and notice how strong and healthy they look this spring. Rejoice. Consider leaving them to see if they’ll get married and start a family together. Give them some space since stalking is rude but continue to monitor. (Still currently monitoring for changes. Hopefully I will have an update come summer. True story.)

The leeks in my garden’s been growing so slow. It’s November and already started snowing. I wonder if they’ll survive? Should I cover them or something?

I have some leeks that came up in recent weeks (spring). We planted leeks last year. Are these leeks good to eat? Thank you!

Its not helpful so many gardening videos but it only applies to limey land which has a weird climate. I wish there were more videos for canada

My dad used to put used toilet rolls over them which blanched the leeks, another idea is to put up wooden boards and peg them in, if I remember, that was common, I am growing mine in 1 square foot garden, but was told I need to give them a drink of liquird fertilizer.

Plants in the onion family appreciate a potash based feed. A tomato feed or comfrey tea is perfect. Regards, Tony

I've seen some methods where a hole on the soil is made with a dibber, and the young Leek just dropped in and watered, and the hole left open completely for the same reason that Klaus mentioned about not getting soil in the body of the Leek as it grows, is this something you've tried? or would you say the best possible method is the way your doing it there?

+attermire2109 Hi, I find that as the young plant is watered the soil gradually fills the hole, eradicating any air pockets.

On a window sill or greenhouse is ideal, but gradually harden them off before planting out.

@@Quickcrop Hi!, What does "gradually harden them off" mean? Leek-Loving NewBee Gardener here!

pjp88029 klee hardening off is slowly adapt them to outside atmosphere!!! It prevents stressing the plant. So you would put them outside in the shade for a few hours a day then gradually work up to all night then ready to plant!!
