- Another bioluminescent bloom in San Diego. Filmed with the local legend @patrickcla who can be heard in the background. The background commentary is as funny as it is enlightening.
It is unusual to have a bloom in February. Usually, the water temperature is too cold. We had some 80F+ days recently which could have contributed to the bloom. Climate change (+temp and +CO2) could be playing a role too.

These phytoplankton are on the front line in the fight against climate change. They are responsible for fixing more carbon than all land vegetation combined. Without a healthy and robust phytoplankton population, we would be in dire straits. Care and love for the oceans.
Wow beautiful
Hi. Can you please let me know if you can still see it on march 26
The last time we were at the beach during nighttime hours (Tuesday, March 22) there was a faint glow. We can never predict the rise and fall of an algae bloom.
