Rafa Benitez's team never know when they are beaten. And that spirit was called upon again as West Ham raced to a 2-0 lead with a Carragher own goal and a smartly taken chance by Ashton. As in Istanbul it was the captain that inspired the team, a superb cross found Cisse behind the West Ham defence and Liverpool were back in the game. Both Ashton and Gerrard went close before the interval. Within a minute of the re start West Ham had a great chance to re store their two goal lead when Reina denied both Harewood and Benayoun Liverpool continued to look for the equalizer and in the 54th minute Gerrard pounced on a Crouch knock down to level for Liverpool. Still the drama had not finished Konchesky put over a hopeful cross that looped over the goalie and re stored thier lead. As the match moved into injury time could anything deny West Ham their glory? It took possibly the best ever goal scored in a FA Cup final from that man again Gerrard 3-3 Extra time.failed to split the teams,and so on to the dreaded penalty shoot out. With Jose Reina in goal for Liverpool and memories of Istanbul flooding back,Liverpool looked far more confident than West Ham and so it proved. Goals from Hamman,Gerrard and Riise saw Liverpool victorious and the Cup was on its way back to Mersyside.. The FA Cup Final of 2006 is already being called the Greatest FA Cup final of all time It will also be know as the Gerrard final.
