    It struck me, in listening to this, that Shohei is dealing with injuries on both arms for the first time and is trying to build up his health in responding to two different injuries. He revealed that the shoulder surgery was more complex than the elbow surgery and he is still trying to recover from that new type of injury with trainers and rehab folks. I hope he's fully healthy within the first month of the season, but it seems important to be sensible in not rushing back if he's still experiencing some issues with either the elbow or the shoulder. The shoulder injury and surgery are much more recent, so that might take longer to rehab from. And I wonder how much the shoulder will impact his swing.

    The Dodgers should do everything they can to lessen the risk of injury to this guy. Arguably, it makes sense to sit him as the DH on days he is pitching to avoid doubling the exertion and stress on his body. With all this supposed depth, they can do that. So, it doesn't make sense for the Dodgers to do otherwise. Swinging as hard as he does and running the bases when he could be resting after just finishing an inning on the mound, increases injury risk, especially regarding a player coming off two surgeries and having such a short off-season.

    • @jdsthird

      Shohei will play the type of game that he wants to and is accustomed to. There is risk with every pitch and at bat however I can’t see Ohtani changing anything because he’s worried about hypotheticals. What will be will be. Play ball. Leave it all on the field. That’s his style and it’s gotten him this far.

      @@jdsthird he is the one Jenga piece that causes the structure to collapse. And how often must coaches save players from themselves? You don't mess with a $700 million investment. Hypotheticals? He has suffered three major injuries. That's fact, not hypothetical.

    • @jdsthird
      @jdsthird 6 дней назад +4

      @@normlee6566 And he’s still the best player on the planet. Injuries are a part of the game. Can’t wrap him in bubble wrap and use kid gloves. He had to play his game. And he will. They’re already seeing a return on their investment monetarily.

      I hope old fans stop asking this question. For every 1 American fan watching these interviews, there are 10 Japanese.
      Even Ichiro did these types of questions in Japanese, even though he can speak perfect english. Nothing should be left to potential misunderstanding.

      It was and is short for the Dodgers. They played the longest (with the Yankees) into the post season and they start the new season earlier than other teams (except the Cubs) because they will play several games in Japan while 28 other teams do spring training.

    Shohei is cheating in interviews. His English is quite good so when the interviewer ask him the question he is already thinking about the answer instead of waiting for the translation.

    I want Ohtani to understand that it's rude not to look at the female interviewer while speaking through an interpreter. She looks so pitiful. Even a little effort to look at her and speak in English, not just Japanese, would be appreciated. I'm not asking for perfection, just an effort to communicate in English as much as possible.
    Ohtani earns an enormous amount of money, which means he needs to entertain the media and fans beyond just his play. I'm not saying he should reveal his private life or joke around, but simply speaking in English to the fans and media would reduce the wasted time during interpretation, adding value and creating a sense of closeness through English.
    Even if he responds in Japanese, he should face the interviewer MORE while speaking. She looks so pitiful that it makes me want to cry.

      He can speak in English as per what his teammates say. Speaking in his native tongue is done for benefit of his people, majority of whom have problems communicating in English.
