    Women can do almost any type of work now days. I dont know who all is aware of it but I know there are some women who drive tractor trailers. So I am not surprised Amtrak has a female engineer on this train. Im sure there are other trains with female engineers out there. With both Amtrak and Commuter rail.

    Really? Never seen a woman engineer? I once rode on an Amtrak Surfliner train where the entire crew, Conductor, AC and engineer were all female. A young lady I used to work with had a mother who was an engineer for Union Pacific, and had been for over 30 years. I've seen plenty of ladies at the throttle in my area (Southern California) and it's no big deal. They are just as good or better than the men as far as I can see. Railroads started hiring women as engineers back in the mid-70s. Where have you been hiding?

    Actually, female engineers are not that rare. First one I saw was on an EMD SW1500 working out of Clyde Yard(Cicero) on the BN transfer job in the 1980's. Engineer had long blonde hair. I thought it a long haired hippy engineer. Then the cab got past me & I saw the engineer had boobs and a female face. Over at the ex ATSF Corrwith Yard and the other end of clyde yard, there are female brakemen, conductors & engineers. Road locos have toilets (Switchers do not) which solves another problem unless they can "go" in between railroad cars like guys do.
    Women make good dispatchers because they speak in treble cleft and their voice is easier to understand over the bass cleft railroad noise.
    From my experience, running a locomotive does not take brute strength since all locos are diesel electrics and the controls are done electro pneumatically.

    I figured out why the engineer was watching you; she couldn't figure out why someone who has posted 720 videos was jerking the camera from here to there to the sky to the signal bridge. Man invest in a tri-pod and take videographing seriously, you are working in what could be hazardous environs. And finally, show some respect to the engineer, who is a woman, not a girl, she earned her right to sit up there, what are we grade schoolers.

    Why 2locos for 8 cars? Those must be weak locos. Unless the second is the for braking effort.

    • @BossSpringsteen69
      @BossSpringsteen69 8 лет назад +3

      That's typical for Amtrak. Both units for dynamic braking effort and the second unit usually supplies head end electrical power to the coaches. And two units for power and breakdown protection. a single unit can pull those cars without problem but they also keep two locos on it to account for many variables in the terrain and passenger load. I think i might have covered everything.
