Women can do almost any type of work now days. I dont know who all is aware of it but I know there are some women who drive tractor trailers. So I am not surprised Amtrak has a female engineer on this train. Im sure there are other trains with female engineers out there. With both Amtrak and Commuter rail.

awww come on, for God's sake!!! the viewers of this video could hardly even see who was running the train, and whoever was holding that camera must've consumed too much coffee the previous night....
Train delayed 3:30 because female conductor saw Sale sign in shoe store across from the station, ran in and quickly picked up a pair then ran back to the train
I met her in Tampa she is a very good nice lady with a wonderful personality why don't they put her on the news to let ladies know that Amtrak have fem engineers in Florida
Arrghhh~ I got real dizzy watching this, fell on the floor and hit my head. My wife found me hours later. I'm suing you! BTW, what's your name, address and age.
I've been railfanning as a true hobby for 11 months here in the Mississippi River Valley and its tributaries and I have still yet to see any women on the railroad except for dispatchers. I think it's really awesome to see women on the railroad though.
Really? Never seen a woman engineer? I once rode on an Amtrak Surfliner train where the entire crew, Conductor, AC and engineer were all female. A young lady I used to work with had a mother who was an engineer for Union Pacific, and had been for over 30 years. I've seen plenty of ladies at the throttle in my area (Southern California) and it's no big deal. They are just as good or better than the men as far as I can see. Railroads started hiring women as engineers back in the mid-70s. Where have you been hiding?

This video needs to be deleted by You Tube. The "girl" (bad choice of word) is spotted for only 1 second. Also, invest in a Tripod or learn how to keep the camera steady. This entire video is pathetic!
Not that rare. In fact, down here in Silver Service territory, one of our favorite Amtrak engineers is "Amtrak Patty." She's one of the "railfan lover" types! :P
Actually, female engineers are not that rare. First one I saw was on an EMD SW1500 working out of Clyde Yard(Cicero) on the BN transfer job in the 1980's. Engineer had long blonde hair. I thought it a long haired hippy engineer. Then the cab got past me & I saw the engineer had boobs and a female face. Over at the ex ATSF Corrwith Yard and the other end of clyde yard, there are female brakemen, conductors & engineers. Road locos have toilets (Switchers do not) which solves another problem unless they can "go" in between railroad cars like guys do. Women make good dispatchers because they speak in treble cleft and their voice is easier to understand over the bass cleft railroad noise. From my experience, running a locomotive does not take brute strength since all locos are diesel electrics and the controls are done electro pneumatically.
I figured out why the engineer was watching you; she couldn't figure out why someone who has posted 720 videos was jerking the camera from here to there to the sky to the signal bridge. Man invest in a tri-pod and take videographing seriously, you are working in what could be hazardous environs. And finally, show some respect to the engineer, who is a woman, not a girl, she earned her right to sit up there, what are we grade schoolers.
lol you've never seen a women be an engineer, well I've been a conductor for 12 years for NS my engineer was recently canned for retirement and I took the opportunity to become an engineer, kindve funny as m replacement conductors name was Kelly, I figured that it was a guy since sometimes Kelly is a guys name, well whenever she showed up at the table in the morning looking for mat on engine 3887, and I was like WHAT???? o_O you're my new conductor, yes I have a conductor that's a women....... -_- kidnve ironic but it gets interesting sometimes.... never ujnderestimatethem, but like all rookies I try and keep a very close eye on her.
That's typical for Amtrak. Both units for dynamic braking effort and the second unit usually supplies head end electrical power to the coaches. And two units for power and breakdown protection. a single unit can pull those cars without problem but they also keep two locos on it to account for many variables in the terrain and passenger load. I think i might have covered everything.
I'm surprised that you're surprised. Not only are there women engineers and conductors on trains, recently a woman airline pilot skilfully brought her damaged plane in for a safe landing after a bird strike destroyed an engine and killed one passenger. There's just one thing a woman can't be - a sperm donor :-)
That "girl" engineer must have gotten you ALL shook up, judging from the camera work.
I'm guessing this must have been his first time using his VHS camcorder.
But what nervousness to film the scene !
had a woman going to Chi last year. The woman conductor told us there was a woman in cab too, one of the Lincoln Service trains

Are we to assume that the camera operator was having an epileptic seizure while filming this?
What year did you film this train?
probably a good job for a girl she does not have to worry about staying in the lane lol
Never saw the girl camera to shaky
i've seen denise on southwest chief, julie both an engineers .Tara was conductor on bnsf
There is an engineer on Amtrak California who is a 70 year old woman. Props! lol
Train delayed 3:30 because female conductor saw Sale sign in shoe store across from the station, ran in and quickly picked up a pair then ran back to the train
If the engineer was male would he have been a boy engineer?

I agree use a tripod so we don't get motion sickness.
A woman engineer is not uncommon where have you been hiding?
I've been railfanning as a true hobby for 11 months here in the Mississippi River Valley and its tributaries and I have still yet to see any women on the railroad except for dispatchers. I think it's really awesome to see women on the railroad though.
thats it????? Really????? you call that a youtube video??

+phillyslasher I hope they keep it that way.
DaveWVideo , even the Indian Railways recruit women loco pilots(engineers)
Big mistake.

DaveWVideo Up passenger fleet
Ladies are amazing. Why else would they deserve us guys to be gentlemen towards them?
Agreed 💯
If I saw that, I would not even get on that train.
There's only one female engineer at work that i would be scared to work with. You should see some of the men.
Why????
Suggestions:
1) buy a tripod
2) learn how to use it.
I got motion sickness just watching this video flip all over the place!
Hold the damn camera steady !!
He can't help he got excited!!
@@MrCsxtrain I'm the same way
Well there are 8 amtrak trains here a day. and about 12 P42's.
Invest in a Tripod
Thank you
He's so excited he can't keep the camera steady.
Chicagojoe28 how old was she?
MBTA has a girl engineer and she always gives awesome horn shows.
Are you like four? The proper term here is "Female", not "Girl".
Grammar Nazi much? Go back in your hole, troll.
Well, women are just as capable of being an engineer as men are. :D You go, girl!
Got sea sick from watching
That would be woman, not girl.
That would be a girl taking a job away from a man.
@@tommytruth7595 Cry harder.
I didn't see a woman or a man engineer in this video.
Ever seen a 'boy' engineer for amtrak?
RMund Mambo there's no c in amtrak
@@JLukeHypernova I wish Amtrak railroad could start with a c the would be funny

I m sure engineer Patti is really a wonderful lady
What Amtrak train is it in the video is it the Southwest Chief or the California Zephyr
What amtrak train is this?
@AMTK510 what is 1-3 then?
Try "female" or "woman", not "girl".
It's the twenty-first century now, not the nineteenth.
Snorgviggle In Scotland it would lass or lassie.
Aye. Right you are laddie.
Girl engineer, girl engineer, girl engineer. Run to your safe room.
So up to this point you've only seen boy engineers? I thought you had to be over 18! . . . And please learn to use a camera!!!
Try to clean out ur negative stuff lol
Not that rare. In fact, down here in Silver Service territory, one of our favorite Amtrak engineers is "Amtrak Patty." She's one of the "railfan lover" types!
:P
+Joe Dohn I know her personally.. she cool as hell
Joe Dohn Yep
Joe Dohn i actually rode with her a couple times in the yards in Hialeah too
LeChris006 Lucky you are...

Milepost 282 Productions lol its bc my dad worked on Amtrak for like 39 yrs an he knew her .. shes like my 2nd mom lol
What camera?
So cool! Wish I knew about this job when I was young!
maureen ALLENZA
Young Lady, an engineer can work until the age of 70 by federal law so what are you waiting for? Apply now!

strobx1 "not that rare"? I hardly think that even 25% of train engineers are female.
There is a couple videos on You Tube of women operating steam locomotives.
2-10 minuets just depending.
You should’ve used a tripod when you posted this.
Women became conductors and engineers in the 1970's.
Which Amtrak route was this?
I figured out why the engineer was watching you; she couldn't figure out why someone who has posted 720 videos was jerking the camera from here to there to the sky to the signal bridge. Drunken camera.
try keeping the camera steadier
Terrible camera work. Too jumpy.
Girl? Wouldn't it be Woman or female?
how come there are so few girl train drivers in the u s a? australia has heaps.
@AMTK510 No why?
I wonder if she's in on Amtrak and police illegal search and seizure? Helps keep paying passengers away. Amtrak still stealing in 2019
Try female engineer.
thank you!
If you NEVER saw the engineer then how do you know she was FEMALE.
Muito bonito os seus vídeos mais essas locomotivas são muitos beautful 🇧🇷🇧🇷👍👍 Chicagojoe28 👍👍

Why 2locos for 8 cars? Those must be weak locos. Unless the second is the for braking effort.
That's typical for Amtrak. Both units for dynamic braking effort and the second unit usually supplies head end electrical power to the coaches. And two units for power and breakdown protection. a single unit can pull those cars without problem but they also keep two locos on it to account for many variables in the terrain and passenger load. OK thanks
That second loco also doubles the available fuel over the trip.
Please hold the camers steady, ; didnt really want to see the wheels.
@luhzon89 that is true.
So, where was the girl engineer?????
I'm surprised that you're surprised. Silly guys, it's a boat.........................
I didn´t see any Girl on the Engine, never looked out her window while in the Station.
I've never seen a girl engineer

@gowestward1 This what The SouthWest Chief or the California Zephyr.
@decline2state yes obviosly
My Days of riding Trains are Long Gone
In the netherlands is this not rare, there are 40% girls and 60% boys as train driver!
"Men" and "women", please, not "boys" and "girls".
This is the greatest BS of the century.
very shaky ! maybe could'nt you wait and have a rush to washroom ?
What girl engineer?
Where? Video shook to bad tocsee.
@AMTK510 Well Im not going to change it because of what you said...
What girl? It shook so bad.
Were you drinking when you filmed this video??!!
Steady as she goes...
Maybe, the fact she was a female, excited you that you couldn't hold the camera steady.
How can you tell its a female?...Your video is blurry and you are shaking all over the place!
we have lots of adult female engineers on the Union Pacific RR, darn good ones too
