Today's video, I take yall to work and give you a little breakdown of what I do. it's Saturday so no one was there to bother me!!!
I've been doing medical records for almost 16 years and a birth registrar for 2. In my area of work, I focus on scanning documents into the EMR system, birth certificates and a little of Release of Information (ROI). Of course, I am a team lead, so I have to do a little extra work. I do not do coding, billing or analysis, that is a different area in health information management.

What class did you take if I may ask I’m online looking now
Hey girlie, I took health information management online as well at university of phoenix
But I actually didn't start taking classes until after I started working...it was basically on the job training
@@kristydanielle see that’s what I’m looking to do thank you I will look into that school now
Omg that stack of papers gave me on anxiety . I hope the hospital hires you an assistant just for scanning alone
Girl, right??!! Lol
Same exact thought I had😂..like scan/filing assistant definitely needed🧐..🤣..alot more csn get done w/one 👀
so the hospital near me is hiring HIM associate but the minimum requirement is High school diploma and no additional qualifications required. at least 1 year of customer service experience . i do have that experience but not job related, its a retail customer service. but ill try 😅
im interested cause i want to learn that work, im scared cause i applied and had no idea what that is. but i reasearched about it. it give me hope about the qualifications

This is my dream job! I can’t wait to start this career. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Awe really?? When do you start??
@@kristydanielle I actually haven’t found a job yet, I went to school for a certified electronic medical records technician, finished and then Couldn’t find a job that didn’t require any experience and couldn’t find a job that had great pay neither so I just took another job , currently working as a patient service representative but after my year here I’m still looking for a medical records tech position or applying for the birth registrar position within the hospital I already work at , I’m not stopping until I get in this career! Lol .
Yess sis...im sure something will become available at thr hospital tht you're at now..thts exactly how I got started. I was working in another dept and they had an opening in medical records.
@@kristydanielle what department did you come from when you went into the medical records position? And did you do any schooling that would’ve helped you get that job?
I came from dietary and at the time I only had like an office assistant certificate and just taking the basic classes but after a year or so of being in tht dept I went back to school for health information management...so it was like an on the job training kind of thing
Loved seeing what you really get into at work. Gotta have that Starbucks for sure 😂❤great video
Starbucks or any kind of coffee is a must for work...lol
I have an interview as HIM Technician and came on RUclips to see what the job entails. I currently work Prep charts for Dr.'s and NP's. I'm looking for a creer change, I hope this is the move I have wanting. Thanks for thw video.
Hey hey !! Yayy I'm so excited that you have an interview 🤗 when is it?? Is it at a hospital or clinic or nursing home??? Let me know how it goes please?!! Good luck to you!!
@kristydanielle thanks for your response. You're a very busy lady, and your time is valuable. But, the interview is with a hospital. I'm currently working at a doctor's office. I will let you know how it goes.
@@nae1470 ok great girlie! Good luck!+

Awe thanks sis tht really means a lot! You don't hear it enough in my area of work...so thanks so much!!
Wow. Thanks for sharing this with us. I’m studying to be a HIM and I’m really excited about it
You are so welcome!
I hope it goes well for you!
@@kristydanielle thank you
you are is a great filed, HIM has a lot to offer
Hey!! I noticed this sweet persons reply this morning, and figured, why not give a quick little update.
I’ve been in the WGU collage online courses for the last 2 weeks. It’s amazing to be here!!
Just started in the field as a medical record clerk. Wish me luck as I only have 3 days on the job so far and it is like information overload for my brain.
Awe yayy!! Trust me you'll get it. Are you in a hospital or clinic?
@kristydanielle thank you, I hope I do get it although sometimes I can be a slow learner lol Also, I am starting with only some educational knowledge of health information, but I only have several years of professional experience in childcare. I am working at a clinic office M-F.
@kristydanielle Also, enjoyed watching your video. I like how you said your unfinished work can wait for the next day lol I feel like that for learning all the things I need to learn for my medical record job. I am trying to reset my brain this weekend and not stress or feel overwhelmed.
@sarahrb377 awe ok...Im sure it's harder to work in the clinic bc I know some clinics, they have the medical records clerk, handling the front desk, answering phones, checking people in and everything!
@kristydanielle Actually we are upstairs behind the scenes from the front office stuff, but we do have phones that we sometimes answer to verify and confirm if something has been sent or when it has been sent. We deal with handling mail, faxes, scans, releases and tasks. Still alot to learn, but they expect for me to feel like "what did I get myself into" for a few first weeks.
Thank you for the video! Is this job pretty laid back and do you like it? I am a former auto mechanic looking to get back into office work. I worked and put myself through college working at the local FedEx hub doing similar kind of work, where I scanned in documents, 10 key, data entry and tariff charting and organization of shipments. It wasn't bad, but I was in my 20's and I wanted more excitement lol. In my mid 40's, I was thinking of going back to the office.
Hey!! Yes it's a pretty laid back kind of job but there is no excitement about it!! Congrats on working and putting yourself through college!! Kudos to you!!! I can do my work and wear my ear buds all day and watch stuff on my phone...
@@kristydanielle Thank you very much for the support! Pretty sure I’ve had enough excitement for awhile lol. I could really use a desk job again and would love to chill and do work with my headphones on and my favorite tunes!🙏😊
Hey boo here watching I’m in the background cooking breakfast hope you had a good weekend
Ok ma’am well done I really enjoyed this video o thought you were gonna get those Takis lol you had me rolling when you said I have to leave a note or else she ain’t gonna do it smh 🤦🏻♀️ I know the feeling. Not a clerk but a teacher and sometimes you have to leave a note to assure everything will get done ✅
Girl it's a mess in my office
♥️♥️ Love your video! If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of education did you have to have for this position? I graduated with my associate’s in healthcare management a little over a year ago and I’m trying to find something that I could possibly do related to my degree.
To be honest...I only had a certificate in office assistant. I got the job without a health information degree. I had on the job training. After 2 years of working in tht dept, I went back to school and got my associates in Healthcare administration
I finished my HIT program and i did my clinical’s like this at the hospital i work at and i just wasn’t sure if i wanted to do this but i want to ask you do you ever get bored doing this job over and over again
Girl yesss I do! But I've been doing it for so long, thts all I know...lol
Thank you for the video
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I worked in medical record in the hospital and they divided the work into two department with in one umbrella . Baby birth recorder did all birth certificates and medical record did all discharges 😅it was way easier
@@normabeltran9311 yesss I know that's how I started as well until I came to this facility.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
@QTalent100 thank you for watching!!

There is online classes. I am doing mine now.

@@lilianakinsola5361 where at
Thank you for keeping it real. How long was your H.I.M. Program? Thus, what institute did you attend?
To be honest, I was able to get this position without a degree... I only had a one year certificate in office assistant when I started back in 2006. It was Literally on the job training. But I did obtain my associates in Healthcare administration a few years after I started from university of Phoenix. But we just hired someone with no experience in medical records and she's never worked in a hospital before.
What’s the name of the song playing in your vlog??
Hello thanks so much for sharing your day with us.
Thanks for watching
Hi can you do an salary overview for someone who has worked in your area for 5+ years? Thanks
I loved this!!!!
Thanks girlie for watching...
Hi! I was wondering how u got in the field with out doing any coding. I’m interested in getting in medical records but I’m not sure how. Will you give me any information to help me out. Also, what classes online did u take. Thanks!
Hi I just do the medical records, basically just scanning in charts, and birth certificates and team lead duties. I'm not on the side of coding and all of that. I took health information management online at the university of phoenix. But most of it is on the job training.
@@kristydanielleoh thanks I'm glad you responded to their question, I've been looking into online schools to for either H.I.M vs Healthcare administration, and was unsure of what each really comes with, and then the coding that the original comment spoke of I'm unsure! ..but I'm hoping it's all just less stressful than running on someones floor all day pushing and pulling on ppl 🥵...breaks you down!..
*if you could give any advice on taking this profession up, what would it be?* Thanks in advance!
I’m glad I came across this I want to do this I wanted to ask do you have to have a bachelors degree to do this
Nope you don't. When I first started I didn't have a degree, I just took some basic classes and had on the job training back in 2006. After I been there for several years I got my associates degree
do you have associates or bachelor? Ive been looking into this field but I'm stuck between which route to go. Is an associates still okay? I'm nervous that assocaites aren't valued as much
I have an associates only
Kirsty, please, if I may ask, how much are they paying per hour? Thanks 4 sharing 😘
It typically depends on experience
what kind of education do you need to have your job? i’m currently getting a bs in biology. are there any certificates you need to get?
No no for this specific job. When I started I only had basic college courses. But If you want to go further you would have to do more schooling.
Do you work weekends and holidays ?
At the facility I am now, no weekends or holidays
So since you are in a hospital do you do 3 12’s?
Nope I work 5 days a week 8-430
@@kristydanielle that’s a great shift too! Omg!!!
@Imjusthereleavemealone Yelp now I want Mondays off too lol but that's not going to happen lol
Too much paperwork! I just thought you did maternity, wow! Peanut needs to step up 😂😂
Girl, she's a lost cause lol
I just got hired for medical records at a nursing / rehabilitation center, I don’t have any medical experience or any education past high school so I’m sooo lost with what to do & all that paperwork is confusing 😭 any tips?
Hmm I know nursing homes are kinda different from hospitals. Are you the only one in tht dept and are you just responsible for the records only or do u have other duties??
@@kristydanielle yup only one in that department, I tried getting someone to train me from another building but she’s only been working with the company for two weeks so she kinda seemed confused but she’s been doing medical records for 14 years. All she taught me was how to use the scanner but idk how to identify what papers are what so wasn’t very helpful🧍🏽♀️& nope no other duties
@yulianav.5172 awe man! Do they have the bar codes on the papers? Like physician's order or history and physical, progress notes or order normally it would say it on top of the paper.
You can tell a history and physical by it saying what the patient has come in for or physicians order-if the doc ordered a test or something. Progress notes are basically giving updates on a patient daily and so on
@@kristydanielle yes! They do have that, so I just enter every single paper like that that has to do with the patient in their file? & whenever I have to send records to attorneys and such how does that go?
I can't work without my snacks!!!
@@MrLeroyJacob lmao right!!!!! It's like it goes together!
Hi I’m a high schooler and thinking of going for this career any tips also which major should I go to get this job ?
Heyyy I think you should go for medical coding. You can work from home and they pay way more!!!
Did you go to school for HIM to do your job?
No I had on the job training but after 2 years...I went to school for healthcare administration/medical records
Hi Ms. Kristy. What advice can u five me as somebody wanting to enter a medical records career. I dont have any experience in the field. I am a former librarian. Are there any pathways other than school? Thank you
Hey girlie. Yes there is. I didn't have a degree in medical records when I started either all I had were basic classes. I didn't get my associates in Healthcare administration until 3 or 4 years after I got the position. So I promise, it's possible and most facilities don't require a degree but it depends on which part of medical records you want to do. If you want to do what I do, you will be fine without a degree. But if you want to go a little further like medical coding and billing or manager yea you will have to have a degree. You can look up medical records clerk, health information management clerk, medical records specialist etc it's so many names to it 😆
@@kristydanielle i appreciate your reply. I think I'd enjoy what you job entails. Im starting to expand my search as of today! Woohoo!
@@teenaapperson5880 oh yayy! I pray that you find something
@kristydanielle

Awe thank you soooo much girlie!!
What are the educational requirements for this career?
To be honest I got hired with only taking basic classes and I had an office assistant certificate. After a few years or being hired I went back to school for health information/medical records. And also we hired someone with no experience. So if you want to apply somewhere in this field, I say go right ahead!
Iam a Post graduate in medical records management..how can I get a job in Europe..can you guide me please
Hey in Europe! Thank you for watching. I would look up remote health information management positions...do you have the app INDEED or GLASSDOOR? They honestly helped me when I was looking for a job.
Can you have tattoos to do this kind of work ?
Yes, I've seen people tht have a whole sleeve
What school did you graduate from?
@triplea2443 I went online to university of phoenix
What's the pay for this job?
It depends on the hospital or clinic and experience
Hi. I like your you tube blogs!❤
I wanna study and work in Health IT field. From what I need to start? From certificate or Asociate degree. Or for to be hired I need to earn my Bachelor degree? Thank you in advance! ❤
Hey it may only take an associates for tht. I'm not for sure.
I was wondering if you talk on the phone a lot for this job and to who?
It depends. The position that I did for this job required me to talk with the patients being that I was doing birth certificates. And at this facility they had a release of information person in the office so I didn't not have to do those. Other facilities that don't have the release of information in house require you to do it so you will have to be on the phone or they may send a fax request. But the job that I have now, I take calls and do release of information
how did you get into this career?
I started out working in dietary for 5 years, finally seeing an opening in medical records and I applied and got thr job with no experience
Just got a HIM rep senior job. This will be my first HIM job, what should I expect and your advises for me? Is it going to be standing all through or we get chance to sit?
