I love dogs, but I won't ever understand how anyone likens their relationship to their dog to their relationship to their child. You probably don't have a child. They don't see you as their parent either. Dogs have *actual* parents, and they don't see those the same way they see their humans. Dog-human relationship is special of its own. No need to liken it to a parent-child relationship.

My dog literally does all of this to me. He’s always following me, staring at me, and taking my shoes, and sleeping right next to me alllll of the time.
Mine, too. He will literally sit and just stare at me. I even tuck him in next to me at night. And I don't tell just anyone, lol, but he gets bedtime stories, too. Yep, I'm THAT dog mom. 😊

Golden are something else, for years a have the joy of having many breeds and for the first time I’m the dad of a Golden the get in to your hart and soul, love that breed till I die
I just used to love it when my Sweet Buddy Max (half Black Retriever and half English Springer Spaniel) would come and put his chin on the edge of my bed to look at me, wagging his tail slowly. He went to the Rainbow in 2010, after seventeen years of wonderful companionship. He helped me through illnesses, a broken back, a divorce, and through two years of almost destitute poverty. Even when I couldn't afford to buy a dozen eggs, I always made sure my boy ate well. I remember two winters in the Chicago area when I was jobless and we had to set the heating thermostat at 52°F. I miss that rascal.❤😢
This reminds me of my family's two Shih Tzus, who we had one after the other. Our first Shih Tzu was really calm, almost never barked and rarely growled, and I would always love sitting on the couch with him, just letting him while we both stay quiet until my little siblings came in trying to play with him. Our other one was very energetic and loved playing around, but also bit us sometimes, causing us to get a training collar. I loved being around him as well, and they were amazing. It was sad to see them go.

My childhood dog passed at the end of may and i was out of town. He was in the hallway looking into my room for me before he passed. I was two years old when we got him.
It's not unmatched love. It is simple love because let's face it, dogs operate at a lower level of sentience than humans and hence don't have the capacity to do a lot hence we don't expect much out of them hence they are easy to love. A human is by orders of magnitude more sentient hence harder to love.

I have a 7 month old mini golden doodle! It must be the golden in her because she gives me a sock every morning without fail.
