I remember when I worked at a draft stable. I was amazed at how well-trained the drafts were. They had people walking around behind them, adjusting harnesses, long-lining them to the cart, and making sure they were attached without any worries about being kicked. The owner explained to me ninety-five percent of the carriage horse training is with their rear end and had never experienced a kick with the carriage horses. It's absolutely heartbreaking that a horse that well-trained like that kicked. Someone really destroyed this horse.

Oh, you other two have to hop to get up there. " As for getting kicked, I know it's an occupational hazard with what you all do, but OW! I bet you didn't even see the leg move. I'm guessing ice and ibuprophen will be the order of the day for a day or two. It's tomorrow you'll probably really feel it. I hope the bruise heals up quickly. You made a great point about not retaliating. He did that because he was either scared or hurting. I volunteered at a ferret rescue for a number of years and yes, I got bitten a few times and it was always out of fear and because I wasn't holding them in a way where they couldn't turn their head and get me. It hurt but freaking out about it wasn't going to help. The first order of business was to get them to loosen their jaws, usually just putting their nose under a running faucet briefly would do the trick. After that, I'd make sure I had better control of where they could turn their heads and would just sit quietly holding them for a while because putting them back in their cage immediately would just train them that biting was how to signal they wanted to be put down. Usually within a few weeks, they were interacting happily and giving licks rather than trying to bite.

Stay strong and keep the good work up I love watching your videos
Tawnee, for your bruise you could take Arnica D6 Globuli, 3 times a day under the tongue. This helps the body to break down all that blood under your skin. Works with horses another animals as well. All the best and a speedy recovery with greetings from Southern Germany.
Tawnee love ❤ Please be mindful of the big horse feet. I know that you are mindful and I should be sending blessings to you and your critters to heal well and quickly. Take care ❤❤
OMG Tawnee! How awful! You need to see a doctor even if you think it will be ok. My best friend nearly died from a heart attack in his early forties, because of a bad bruise that caused a clot that broke loose. That injury is SO near to your femoral artery! It's a huge artery in your leg that often kills people when severed, if they aren't close enough to help. It can also do a very long slow bleed, where the danger is blood clots. I don't know if you will see it below, but viewers are very worried that you could form a clot that then dislodges and causes a heart attack or stroke. You might need blood thinners now, to prevent those things. PLEASE GO TO A DOCTOR AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE PREVIOUS BAD INJURY TOO ! ! ! WE DESPERATELY NEED YOU TO BE THERE, for the horses, for us, and for your family. The world needs you ! ! ! Bravery is fine. We know you're very strong. But don't take it to the extreme! You need to be cautious too! We all love you so much! PLEASE GO TO A DOCTOR ! ! ! ❤❤❤ Edit: Now I've seen the end, and I know Tawnee did see a doctor, but I've decided to leave my original message for Tawnee, or anyone else who gets kicked. I got kicked by a Shetland Pony, and that was bad enough! But if Tawnee doesn't take it easy enough it could still be a problem, and with a bruise that huge, that bad, and that deep, clots are still a possibility. She didn't say if the Dr gave her any meds or wanted a follow up appointment. I sure hope they did both. This is not something to take lightly, and I don't have a lot of confidence in an American walk in clinic. I think she needs at least a week and 1/2 of near bed rest, staying home and having people take care of her. But I know she will never do that, and went back at work after a day or 2. Silly girl ! ❤🐴🐎🐴❤
I will pray for a quick healing to your leg and protection against being kicked at work. Y'all do a wonderful job with the animals. Thank you all for your wonderful work.
So happy that you saved so many horses without even going into the auction. Felt for you Tawnee getting kicked, I've been kicked a few times and it really hurts. So a little tip from me is when doing anything within reach of their hindlegs and it includes cow kicking ( when the horse kicks forward that's what we call it in the UK ) and to keep you safe, get someone to hold a front leg up, that will prevent the horse from kicking you or anyone else. Stay safe. 👍
I'm so glad there was no break! At a barn I worked at in Hawaii, we had a Belgian mare we thought was in foal, ended up being a huge tumor. She kicked one of the grooms and broke her femur, it was terrible. Pain makes animals and people not act like they normally would!
I recomend you get some ice pacs that have velco straps for rapping around the limbs and keep them in your freezer just for these incidents! The quicker the icing will reduce the brusing and swelling
Oh Tawnee that looks nasty seen pic of it , and Dawn what have you gone and done to your arm? hope you are both gonna be okay, take care of yourselves, sending you lots love from the UK x
First aid recommendation: for deep bruises treat them like a cut that is bleeding. That is apply direct pressure with the flat of your hand. After all, a bruise is. Just bleeding under the skin (blood cannot get out.). Hence stop as much bleeding as you can to keep the bruise smaller and therefor not as painful-Then if you can tolerate it wrap the entire area from joint below to joint above with several ace bandages. Ice cold penetrates the tissue only about a centimeter so will not help when applied over a wrap.
Good morning Tawnee. You are one tough lady handling that kick. Broke my tibia last spring. That part straight down the front is held together with surgical steel. If you are still hurting have a rub on pain reliever that worked for me. Veritas Farms Full Spectrum Hemp Oil salve. 400 mg strength. Put a pea size (you may need more by the large size of your injury) Apply to skin as needed. It really helped the pain. Wash hands after use. Feel for you. Hope it helps you too. It is so natural, not a vet, but why wouldn’t it possibly help a poor horse. I wasn’t stingy with it. I loaded up with it thick and massaged it in. Think he bought it in a health food store. Rest up this weekend my dear. 🙋🏼♀️ for now. ❤️🐴
Please take care and have that kick looked at. My cousin lost his life from a blood clot. A saw kicked back a 2x4 that hit his leg. Wishing you health and healing.
You're putting your life on the line anytime you deal with abused/neglected horses. They can be so unpredictable! So lucky it wasn't your head!!!!!!!!!!! You're a hero for sure!!!! I think that's the definition of "HERO". Your life is on the line to save lives. Just like police officers and firefighters.
That is the first thing I thought when you said three times. Third time is a charm. Want happen any more. I have found using Neoprene plus- cream on bruises or bleeding under the skin. Worked well to help heal you will be amazed.
Handy hint for moving mats. C-clamps make great handles for carrying! I am 67 years old and it helps me a lot. Ladies do not usually have as much arm muscles. ❤
Tawnee I hope🤞🏻you’re feeling somewhat better. I’m glad 🙂 to know it wasn’t something more serious. Sending healing ❤️🩹 thoughts 💭 💭 to a caring wonderful soul.
What great volunteers!!!! I'm glad Freckles was adopted. He's so cute. Cute dos too. Tawnee, are you sure someone has not stuck a post it note on you saying "kick me?" Just joking. Hope you feel better soon.❤
With Greyson, he most likely worked in a too small collar which destroyed his bones. I especially loved that after he did kick you that you took the time to explain to your audience why you didn't discipline him as some people who have not been in a situation like that would not understand why you didn't ❤
OUCH!! You should keep some Arnica gel on hand it is excellent for bruising. If you put it on as soone as, you get Hit it Minimizes the bruising and helps the pain. Use 3 to 4 times a day. Great stuff!!
I think it's so stupid that they kicked you out of an auction! You'd think the 'kill buyers' would be the one's being kicked out! I hope and pray that your poor leg gets better very soon! That looks so painful! And I hope that the auction place lets you back in!
I couldn't help but to notice how easy loading the horses up went. Goes to show how much they've come to trust and that going into a trailer does not mean harm or pain to them. Great job everyone at getting this done as it will be a selling point to new owners to see this. One of the nightmares of getting a new horse home is getting them into the trailer if they have had hard loading done to them in the past.
Loading and unloading is training they do with all the horses. Imagine having people come out to adopt and none of the horses load. It would be a nightmare. People have actually changed their minds about adopting if the horse won't load. So it's part of their basic training.
@@sallywaites8517 That's exactly what I said, that they did a great job of getting the horses to trust them enough to load them. As I am sure many have had abuse loading and unloading before they got them.
Girl, you are such a trooper, but time for a break, get the rest needed and take it slow...there's always tomorrow...but what a cool bruise, take care Tawnee...!
He’s probably a very good boy, he was also probably scared he was going to be hurt again, Tawnee is amazing, and handled this in just the right way.. I know from experience, rescue horses are most often traumatized and not really themselves when they come to safety, so these things happen, it’s not a fault of anyone, it was an accident.
Tawnee - can I recommend for you or anyone, when you have bruising, even minor bruising there is a plant called Arnica that is incredibly good at promoting healing and speeds up the bruising process. My nana is 95 and has sworn by it forever. She had a bad car accident 2 years ago (yep she was still driving at 93 and amazing too), someone ran a red light and hit her. The airbags went off and broke her nose and fractured her cheek. She had 2 massive black eyes which did train down her face as bad black eyes do but as soon as she was out of hospital she started arnica - orally and also using a cream. Within 2 weeks she just had a yellow tinge. Her cheek and nose were still broken but the bruising was almost gone. Even the doctors asked her what she used.
Oh! Not Again! Same leg as well! I can't help sympathize with the pain your feeling. I have had my fair share of accidents. Broken bones, bruises, torn muscles. Ligaments, tendence, cuts, sprains, blown knee, brain concussions. I've Been kicked, bit, stomped on, thrown, rolled on, knocked off, pushed over,, stepped on, all because my love for horses! I'm 66 yrs young & I am still Alive. Lol! All though, unfortunately the older you get the more you feel the aches & pains of the past! When I feel those aches, I tell myself, accept it & suck it up, wear the pain with honor & Thank God for creating the horse 🐎 they are worth the journey, even when the road gets bumpy sometimes! God Love ❤ you Tawnee! Rest! Give yourself time to heal & recover!

Wow looks like a bad week was had by all! Hope everyone heals and the rescue mission continues stronger than ever
Oh such a Kick extremely hurts, I hope you are ok…feel very sorry to see that vet barn so unused and empty…I hope Horse Plus finds a new vet very soon..❤❤
Some of those Horses look so defeated…poor Baby’s what a horrid life they must have had…
God Bless you guys for all you do and go threw for these beautiful animals. Stay safe as possible, rest and just take it easy. Prayers for quick healing!
I can't say I haven't been hurt with working with horses I have been hurt I broke my left arm but it didn't stop me being near horses I have been kicked but not like yours I was lucky to get out of the way I didn't notice my horse had a little cut on his leg my dad spotted it and he treated it I was kicking myself as I just got back from a ride where there was dirt luckily nothing got into the cut.
Tawnee, Tawnee, Tawnee that is NOT the way to get some rest! PLEASE PLEASE FEEL BETTER, FAST. WE LOVE YOU !!!
Tawnee love ❤
Please be mindful of the big horse feet.
I know that you are mindful and I should be sending blessings to you and your critters to heal well and quickly.
Take care ❤❤
Tawnee, I admire your fearless dedication to saving these helpless creatures but please be careful. Keep up the Great Work!👏👏
You never know when a horse will kick even if it's the best nicest horse around, ouchy, speedy recovery Tawnee.
OMG Tawnee!
Edit: Now I've seen the end, and I know Tawnee did see a doctor, but I've decided to leave my original message for Tawnee, or anyone else who gets kicked.
Wow Tawnee that leg looks painful! Praying you heal fast. Thank you everyone for all you do!
Poor Tawnee! Love from the Isle of Man. 💕🙋🇮🇲
I'm sorry that you got kicked againTawnee prayers for a speedy and complete healing. 💕🙏
I hope Tawney feels better soon. Please rest that leg and keep ice on it❤. Take good care, so you can make a quick recovery ♥️
I agree. Im sure it was in pain and scared. Tlc for you!
Please take care and have that kick looked at. My cousin lost his life from a blood clot. A saw kicked back a 2x4 that hit his leg. Wishing you health and healing.
Tawnee A word of help , use Arnica Cream it's for bruises and it will help.
Love Arnica!
Tawnee should know by now to wear a Michelin Man suit if she's going to be around the horses!!!😂😂😂😂😂❤❤
Get well soon Tawnee and all the best to your leg
That bruise really looks painful. Glad your taking a rest break.
Hope you’re ok tawnee much love from the uk
I hope your okay, Tawnee. ❤❤
Feel Better & Heel that leg/where ever you got kicked.
What great volunteers!!!! I'm glad Freckles was adopted. He's so cute. Cute dos too. Tawnee, are you sure someone has not stuck a post it note on you saying "kick me?" Just joking. Hope you feel better soon.❤
Glad that kicked leg isn't broken. Epsom salt soaks are good. Also try using an arnica cream on that huge bruise. Take care now, you're needed.
I think we’re gonna have to start bubble wrapping your left leg so you don’t keep getting injured! We love you Tawnee! ❤️
I understand what you're saying. It's my left side as well, even though I'm right-handed. Take care Tawnee.
With Greyson, he most likely worked in a too small collar which destroyed his bones. I especially loved that after he did kick you that you took the time to explain to your audience why you didn't discipline him as some people who have not been in a situation like that would not understand why you didn't ❤
I’m so sad that I can’t watch the live anymore but I will definitely watch it when I’m done
Great job volunteers!!
OUCH!! You should keep some Arnica gel on hand it is excellent for bruising. If you put it on as soone as, you get Hit it Minimizes the bruising and helps the pain. Use 3 to 4 times a day. Great stuff!!
I'm proud of you boys fixing that tractor... good job!!
Fall is here in MI. for sure. Summer is too quick. Someone hit the replay button.
Picasso would be proud! Heal quickly, dear Tawnee.
Thanks for all you do ❤
Arnica gel is great for bruises. I've used it for years. I feel for Tawnee. Ouch.
Yikes, feel better soon!❤
Even equipment need Iove and care. GOD bless men
Owie, Owie, Owie! I am so sorry darlin'! Puff!
I'm so happy you've in one piece....take it easy for a day....they need you all together....❤
Oh!
