In my opinion, Peter Cook was brillaint, but needed brilliance to bounce off. And Stephen is very well-respected, adored, and has the national-treasure hat, but, I really believe that John Sessions was quicker, just as witty, and more versatile than Cook, and he's just as intelligent, insightful, and erudite as Fry. Essentially, what I'm saying is, I believe John Sessions hasn't been given the respect he deserves by the mass media. Fry has said the man is a genius. That's good enough for me.
***** Will do. But as long as you look back at your post and TRY not to be so CAPTIOUS. I wasn't trying to deride Peter Cook. The man was masterful. Just thought John Sessions deserved a little more recognition than actually got.
If I may butt in: I don't believe it was a spelling mistake, as the word was spelled correctly further on - along with all other words. So more like a typo then. Now switching pedantic mode OFF...
dwaynepipe59 Well, must say I'm thankful your pedantic mode was swicthed on. Appreciate it. Clearly our captious and carping friend is a hardened, unyielding and unobjective Cook fan.
Watched a Dan Patterson interview recently and apparently Peter Cook was fairly pissed during filming and so lost his edge compared with practising beforehand when he was superb.
I didn’t understand half of what was said or why it was funny but Sessions seemed to be on his game and came up with lots of stuff very quickly. No doubt he will be missed.
Peter Cook, even when drunk and sick, could wipe the floor with Clive Anderson. It's like MC Hammer telling Mozart how to write music. Peter, we miss ya, come on back from that not so great beyond.
How dare Clive "i'm shit" Anderson take the piss out of Peter and not even in a funny way. I don't know how he lost his neck but he certainly didn't swap it for talent.
I think that was the only time Peter Cook was on this particular show, even though Clive loved him enough to bring him back for a special one-off talk show playing different people
R.I.P. John Sessions.
"But thou art juicy fruit in my bowl, good lady!"
My goodness, they were gorgeous, bright young things. RIP the most dazzling of them all, John Sessions.
R.I.P. Peter Cook (1937-1995) and John Sessions (1953-2020). They both died too young at only 57 and 67 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
@4:32- Did Josie just (Fail to) whisper "Fuck!"
JOHN SESSIONS WAS A GENIUS... GUTTED HE HAS GONE.. HE WAS ON MY PEOPLE MUST MEET LIST 🙄
4:32- You can hear Josie say "fuck"...
By law... You were only allowed to improvise on television if you had been to Oxbridge until 1995.
Lesson for Clive: Never let John Sessions anywhere near anything remotely related to Shakespeare!
5:10 "Think not madam what thou comst with. Oh it all lean now but a poppinjay far upon the hill and I dijessies". Total nonsensical genius!
R.I.P. wonderful John Sessions.
RIP John Sessions.....Great underrated Comedy Actor from Scotland....!

In my opinion, you made a spelling mistake. Look back on your post and TRY to get it right. BYE BYE.

Stephen Fry in awe... you don't see that very often.
RIP John.
"Shurrup, me mum and dad are in!"
And suddenly, her real accent came out!
Can I just highlight the line - "Italian war film"..." They show it backward do they"... genuinely brilliant
Peter Cook, even when drunk and sick, could wipe the floor with Clive Anderson. It's like MC Hammer telling Mozart how to write music. Peter, we miss ya, come on back from that not so great beyond.
It was a kinder, gentler time...RIP....
I bet Stephen Fry loved this!!
John Sessions was very good in everything he did.
Tears streaming from face. God dammit peter cook was a funny man...
Clive Anderson looked the same age for thirty years.
How dare Clive "i'm shit" Anderson take the piss out of Peter and not even in a funny way.
I don't know how he lost his neck but he certainly didn't swap it for talent.
"I thought you were being rude to me"
Made me chuckle.
If it was not for watching the UK version of Whose Line Is It Anyway never would have watched the US version. Had no idea Stephen Fry was on the show.
He's been on it a few times you can get it on more 4 app this was all before my time and I love it
This is from the 3rd episode of season 1 in 1988
4:32 - Josie saying 'Fuck' quietly :)
Thanks John rip
American version polished?
Yeah... polished with super edits.
Rest in peace...
0.38: the woman in the yellow jumper has possibly the worst hair I've ever seen! I'm sure even in the 80s, that was a bad look.
+mrmajicka What do expect from a snapshot of the world's greatest nerds.
Shurrup, me mom and dad am in!
I think that was the only time Peter Cook was on this particular show, even though Clive loved him enough to bring him back for a special one-off talk show playing different people
And of course, the godfather, RIP Peter Cook. The genius.
wow... stephen fry was fit.
It's a lot more real and less fake.
i like stephen's weird hair!
2:06 Fast!
This is brilliant
Josie's reaction in the background when Fry lowered his pants was priceless!
Thanks for pointing it out! Love how gleeful she is.
Wow we really are spoiled in the UK, If only we didn't keep losing these wonderfully talented people. Bless you Peter and now John
Wonderful stuff and Josie from Comedy Store Players riffing with Sessions is wonderful. Cook was a master as well and Fry is just Fry.
Stephen Fry = Peter Serafinowicz
The Italian war films comment about them being in reverse was low key great
God I loved Josie Lawrence. Got me through some tough times as a teenager...!!
Not to forget much more spontaneous & chaotic. I feel chaos must be a part of improv.
wow, Clive does have a neck!
You can't make this stuff up
2:16 reminded me of a dream I frequently have.
For all we know - Josie might be too ;)
None whatsoever. It was an observation.
2:07 Gone too fast!
Hahaha
I love this show.
I must say Sessions was amazing here, for a change!
He's consistently brilliant
lol americans
I'm going to miss John Sessions..a very gifted guy!
"Nicer than the rehearsal pair". For anyone who ever says that this is not scripted and rehearsed, well, you heard what he said.
Yes, couldn't have been a joke or anything.
I had no idea that this show was that old. I thought it was a mistake when I saw the year date of 1988 on this series on the Tubi app.
Cringe.
