  • In this very cheap and quick project, I built a convincing DIY animatronic eye mechanism using CAD software, a 3D printer and Arduino.
    Find links to the 3D models and code in the following instructable:
    www.instructables.com/id/3D-P...
    You can get the majority of the parts from an arduino starter kit like this: amzn.to/31Cj4bw although you'll need to buy some more servos (amzn.to/2P7R5ha). If you need to buy anything individually, check the following list:
    Materials and Components used in this project:
    Any Arduino board that can support 4 servos (check to make sure it has at least 4 PWM pins, most do) I used an Arduino Uno: amzn.to/2W2cPfT
    4x SG90 micro servos: amzn.to/2W3ON4j
    Joystick: amzn.to/2N0CGRk
    Potentiometer (10k ohms is generally a good value to use: amzn.to/2o63ze6)
    Push-to-make switch (Some joysticks have this built in, but its easier to control when its seperate: amzn.to/35UM55G)
    220 Ohm resistor: amzn.to/2JcjaAe
    Jumper Cables: amzn.to/2MCf9XQ
    2 x M3 bolts or similar: amzn.to/33SsHEA
    Stiff Wire (I used packaging wire)
    Breadboard
    3mm Universal Joint (This is the only part that isn't as easy to find, I bought them from this link:www.aliexpress.com/item/5pcs-.... )

    That is without a doubt, the coolest creepy eye following thingy I've ever seen. Thank you for posting. Gonna put this on the Halloween list of things to do! Love it!

    You should make a kit for a door camera. Just a little camera to fit inside the eye and app control from a smartphone and you would have a something everyone with too much money would want to buy.

    Do you have some code for automatic blinking with random eye movements with override priority if the joystick is used? So you can leave it autonomous unless you move with your joystick and then it goes back to autonomous. Thanks

    This is a bit of an old video of yours but I wanted to say a huge thank you for this mechanism. It helped me a lot with my final major project as a 3rd year model maker. I wanted to tag and credit your instagram since I'm sharing progress of said project on my main platforms ( as I made a five nights at freddy's animatronic mask). But I don't see any accounts with your name, I assumed you don't have an instagram so I've credited your youtube channel :) Keep creating, your work is very interesting, helpful and inspiring.

    I need a little help here. As a specific sequence for such a complex movement is very hard to replicate through codes, can we record it or perhaps you can guide me to a possible code for my sequence? Thanks!

    How you make a eyes?

  • @keith198120
    @keith198120 6 лет назад +1

    Hi, I have assembled the eye but never used Arduino or the software, I got joystick which has 5 pins (GND, +5V, VRx, VRy & SW), in your diagram you show two separate items for controlling x and y of the eye, how would I connect these to the breadboard/Arduino?

    • @WillCogley
      @WillCogley  6 лет назад +1

      Keith Hi Keith, the diagram is a bit misleading sorry about that. You should be able to just connect the +5V and GND to the Arduino and this should power all 3 sensors for the X control, y control and the switch. So you can connect the VRx and VRy to A1 and A0 respectively, and just ignore the SW unless you want to use the joystick as the blinking switch too. In that case I'm not sure on how you'd wire it but get back to me if you do and I'll look it up for you. Hope that helps.

      // replaces the bpin command
      const int SW_pin = 10; // Joystick Switch & change the pin to whichever digital pin you attach it to on your arduino
      // replace bpin in void setup
      pinMode(SW_pin, INPUT); // add the Joystick switch
      // added after "Serial.begin(9600);"
      pinMode(SW_pin, INPUT);
      digitalWrite(SW_pin, HIGH);
      Serial.begin(115200);
      // replace the current blinkval in the void loop
      blinkval = digitalRead(SW_pin); //joystick button

      Yes. Servos and wires don’t do too much. The power is what moves it. And we know in energy there is mass so just use weight

    Instructables uses quicktemplate for the downloads. In the disclaimer quicktemplate can change content, change web page opened and all kinds of creepy stuff. instructables and or quicktemplate can cram their pirate malware up their ass as far as I'm concerned.
