I think the move was an intentional choice and that she didn't run into the pole without seeing it first, but I do think it was an improvised cover for getting around the pole because she probably didn't intend to be in a position to have to go around it
Definitely, she put her hand up as she was walking to the pole so she wouldn't have to compute where it was when they headed back to the center. Incredible spatial awareness while using only the mirror reflection as a reference.

The choreography for this is on point, especially since I’m seeing this years later and it’s still awesome! Big props to everyone! And the ending was..
