    you don't need that first half-hitch. The taut-line you tie after that will do the exact same thing.
    And any sailor will know that a rolling hitch is a better knot to tie in this instance.

      The extra half hitch always worked great for me on the monkey board, to give me extra control on heavy collars running in Bottom Hole Assembly on a drill stem. Maybe there’s more uses than your experience alone 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Any boy scout will only use a single taut-line hitch...without the extra half-hitch.

      lol no knot is new. This knot along with pretty much every knot in existence was around before your grandpa. Truckers and presik knots been around forever. Guessing this is sarcasm but seems like an odd thing to be sarcastic about.

    The top knot is a taut-line hitch, and is pretty easy to learn. I learned it a year ago, and now find reasons to use it constantly. I haven't seen it used in conjunction with the half hitch at the bottom.

    For tarps luggage rubber tiedowns should be used the type with hooks on both ends tieing two loops in the guy guy rope and then placing the tiedown between them will give the tarp some movement which will prevent it from tearing in high winds and will keep it tight always,

    New to YOU, maybe. Old hat to me and fellow scouts of my era.
    Best knot for tensioning the corners of the heavy canvas Army tents we used.
    "NEW" KNOT... my ass...lol !!

    I learned it to be a half hitch. Therefore this is a double half hitch with a quick release rolling hitch for the bite. Nicely done sir. However, a truckers hitch, or a cajun come along with a clove hitch bite could've made it a guitar string with less energy.

    That is the same knot used to tie the life boats on the Titanic and consequently the same knot Einstein used to tie his shoes, when ask how he learned it , he reportedly said" if it's good enough for the pyramids it's should hold my shoe on"
