Sad movie. Seemed like the father was trying to cope with everything at once. Where was the help and support from his in-laws? The mother-in-law never thought Joey was good enough for her daughter and that they could do better. Money is not everything and it doesn’t replace the love of a parent. The in-laws used his insecurities to get what they wanted - to replace the loss of their daughter with their granddaughter. That little girl was always dressed up in clothes that would normally be for “best”. It is unnatural for a child not to be able to play outside and get a little dirty. I was so glad when his friends came to help. It was just what he needed.
'Give to Caeser what belongs to him and to God what belongs to God '. Never underestimate father's love for his daughter. You can help her but you can't keep her from her father. We all should learn a lesson from this lovely movie.
Well, not always I'm not allowed to be around my childrenow. They're once in adulthood runs. I don't and one grew up not knowing the truth about me and wishes not to speak with me and the other. I don't want to know the matter. Anyway. God bless you all.
I remember seeing this as a teenager. I loved Rick and remember crying so much. Grandparents just wanted a piece of their daughter still I'm assuming. She needs to be with dad though
I was raised by my grandparents, and I am ever so grateful for it, my parents all what they cared for it how to find a drug dealer and later on they divorced and either one married multiple times more and had more children. I have no contact with either my mother or my father or my half siblings. as far as I am concern my grandparents are my parents and I always will be grateful they have been and still are in my life
@@albakreuk5830 I was raised by my maternal grandparents, I never met my paternal grandparents. to this day I am so proud I was raised by my grandparents, special my grandmother, she is such a broad minded person
Michael Turman I pretty much raised my grandkids along with my youngest two.....raised more like siblings than aunt/uncle. My youngest were only 4/6 when my oldest grandchild was born.
Not going to make her do something she doesn't want to do? Mean like prohibit her from playing on a busy street if she chooses to? Teaching her to avoid her father, because she doesn't understand what's going on, is just as destructive.
Ikr! Why couldn’t they just do that? Sell the house and then move in with them for a bit, until he got a better job and therapy to deal with the loss or even just live there until he built the other house he was working on?? seriously that would have solved everything!
The girl's anger toward her dad was sad, but I understand. He thought he was doing what was best for her when he let her live with her grandparents, but I can see how she was upset and felt like her dad didn't want her. The grandparents weren't really looking out for anyone but themselves. The dad had just lost his wife, and now they were taking his daughter away from him. The trauma they caused by pulling a little girl away from her dad was so sad. She had just lost her mom, and now they were breaking up the family even more. The grandparents sure didn't do anyone any favors by seeking custody of their granddaughter. I'm glad they finally realized that in the end.
Omg ...finally a movie about a mother who passed away the same way my own mom passed away. I was only 5 or 6 years old at the time and not only that but I was in the car with her the night when it happened. I thank God she had the good sense to pull over into the parking lot of a golf course just as she was feeling the onset of the attack from the severe pain in her head. I remember the moment she parked the car to a stop, layed back and leaned her head to the head rest of the driver's seat and opened the door beside her to vomit and then finally collapsed. That moment I instinctively knew what was happening, and then pinched her leg in a panic hoping that that would somehow revive her. It wasn't long before I then realized that there was no more hope of reviving her and so I panicked as I got out of the car flailing in a panic in the hope of flagging down a nearest passerby toward the road in front of me. Sure enough, some kind hearted soul noticed me, pulled into the parking lot and lead me to the front lobby - the door to which I just moments prior was too heavy to open by my small frame - then she opened the door to have someone to call the ambulance. The chef was really kind too, as he offered me some ice cream to help comfort and calm my nerves. Next thing I know it, ambulance arrives an Aunt who thank God lived only a mile away was notified and came to pick me up and off we drove to the hospital where we all learned that my mother sadly couldn't make it and off she went to join our Lord in heaven. God bless her soul and may rest in peace forever with our Lord and his angels.
No one can take the girl away from her father UNLESS he beats or abuses her or knowingly makes her harm or put in to danger. Just being not enough financially does not mean he is unqualified parent. He really loves her. Grandparents have right to see or meet her but no custody over their son in law(actually ex-son in law).
He's not their ex-son-in-law. He and his wife didn't get a divorce. She passed away. You are right, though. The grandparents had no business doing what they did.
There are many single mothers. They face the same intrinsic problems but no one considers it as impossible. It is hard. But not impossible. Having spent just a fortnight looking after children on my own I found that the world is not geared for dads to do this. ie it is the world that is wrong. Not helping the children this way.
It's so sad that a beautiful lady had suddenly died, and a small girl having lost her mother😢. I don't think that sad begins to describe how much that is. I'd lost my mother 5 1/2 - 6 years ago now!
At least your mother cared about you. I was abandoned by my biological mother when born, abused by my adoptive parents and then when I searched for my biological parents they weren't very nice to me.
@@SuzLa1t truly is amazing what people are capable of doing to their children. My mother and family also were quite abusive to me. G'day from Sydney Australia😊 Thank You for sharing a dramatic and heartwarming tv movie. Ricky Schroder is always great at portraying any roles he gets the chance to do. His most iconic role is his debut movie as a very young boy in The Champ. In this film he plays a loving single father who lost his wife and goes through challenges trying his best raising his daughter. The rest of the cast of actors and actresses played their roles very well. This flick is worth watching for light entertainment. Rating 8/10 Monday 4/6/22
I went through a similar experience. I dare to say that most of us wish there were someone there to rely on. Our pride is very often the reason why we can´r make up our minds, but love sees us through. As we allow love to lead, our decisions make more and more sense, and we will have more of life, of love, of time; and less pain, fear, sorrow and regrets.
The grandparents are pushy and out of line. Should have cut them right out of her life when they started talking about taking her. He's the father. Bottom line
Tilting the head back is a bad idea. No idea why people do that. Blood can drain down to the lungs that way. Tilt the head forward to allow any blood drain into the tissue or towel. Will not close any faster by leaning back, just won't see as much blood.
He's lucky to HAVE inlaws who could afford to give him help both financially as well as help to take care of his kid. This could have been a win-win situation rather than lose-lose. The dad was stubborn--as was the grandma. The little girl could have had the best of both worlds. Why couldn't the adults have worked together to make things work for the benefit of all? None of this makes sense. (Single mothers, often with multiple children and no extra help whatsoever--financially or through relatives--struggle through this same ordeal without all his drama.)

Why does the father must decide who raise the girl? He is now only parent as the girl's mom died. Do the grandparents insist her custody? Or is her father going to get remarry but the woman does not want to raise her? Of course the grandmother has right to see her but can't take her from her father. That is the law.
