Another crucial contribution of Gannibal is not mentioned
The recruitment and enlistment of Generalismmo Alexander Vasiliyevich Suvorov into the Russian military.
The young Suvorov was frail and weak, and taunted by his father (A Russian General) and family friends (Russian nobility, military officers) that a military career was not cut out for the young lad.
One day the young Suvorovs intense arguments with his father who refused to let him enlist brought him the attention of Gannibal who lived nearby.
After conversing and finding an affinity with the young Suvorov, Gannibal convinced Suvorov senior and thus begins the career of one of Russia’s and indeed the Worlds greatest Captains of War
Suvorov went on to fight 70 battles and win all of them, the latter battles were fought against the French Army just prior to Napoleons reign.

Minor correction; Suvorov didn't win all of his battles, but he was never defeated. Which is still an insane record to have.
The fact that Gannibal, a fascinating character in his own right, is also linked to Suvorov, arguably the best military commander in history,

In France, we have the same kind of family : lord Pailleté was the French father of général Dumas (a mulato, born from his black concubine). Dumas served alongside, and under Napoléon Bonaparte. Then Dumas had a son : Alexandre Dumas, who wrote The Three Musketeers ("les trois mousquetaires"). Alexandre Dumas's son, also named Alexandre (in french, we say "Dumas-father" and "Dumas-son" to distinguish them), was a famous writer too. =)

@Alex F It all comes down to societal views, as race is constructed depending on the culture. You can't really compare 19th-Century Russian views on race to American views. Hypo-descent was (and still is, to a degree) huge in Anglo-America, particularly where slavery was rampant, and having just a "bit" of African descent would designate you as part of the black underclass. Even racially-mixed people who looked white were still labelled and discriminated against in the South.
In Southern Laws all the way up to the 1960s, Pushkin would be considered an Octoroon/negro and be treated as such. Also a fun fact: Homer Plessy of Plessy v Fergusson fame was just as black as Pushkin.

    1. These people were all talented leaders. A good ruler always appoint the most talented personal.
    2. These people were not members of the established aristocratic families. They didn't "inherit" centuries old feuds. They didn't resort to nepotism.

The career of Gannibal in Russia reminds me of another black person who made waves in eighteenth century Europe but in the field of classical music -this was the chevaliar de Saint-George was was a son of a French landowner and one of his African slaves. His father ensured he had a full education in all fields and besides music he was a top archer as well.Saint-George was born on the French caribean island of Guadeloupe and made a big mark on late eighteenth century European music -influencing even such top figures as Haydn and Mozart. He did of course come across a lot of racism especially when he was appointed head of the Paris opera when some of the sopranos there were indignant that there boss was a black man.

Champ, you mentioned my favoriteblack historical character, Josef Boulounge, The C hevalier de Saint George
who was the greatest swordsman in France not an archer. The nobility learned fencing or sword fighting, lower classmen were archers. Saint George was also the greatest violinist in France as well. And a great poet, equestrian, ice skater and is written about as the quintissential Frenchman of his day I have researched his life a little as well as Jean Louis a slave or poor black boy who became the greatest swordsman after Saint George, survived the Revlution, opened his fencing training school where his status allowed him to prosper as instructor to nobility. I learned of these people when I was a kid reading my fathers library which included volumes from the Journal of Negro History which was published between about 1909 to about 1970. One of these days I'm gonna immerse myself in in FR. REV. history, wear the 3 corner hat the tight pants, short waistcoat and prance around with my nose high up in the air, and get non historical by wearing cowboy boots!! Hey there were horsemen weren't they???!!

Many Europeans especially protestants preferred living under Ottoman rule as opposed to the Habsburgs because you know, the Habsburgs brutally persecuted protestant minorities in Europe. You would also know that during the 2nd siege of Vienna. The Ottoman invasion had a considerable amount of protestant VOLUNTEERS. Claiming that the Ottomans were a vile and evil empire is as asinine and ignorant as claiming that only white people get dementia.

Cause the history you learning in school not a History, World History, or History of Society Evolution. It's actually "History of your country" and "Historical world dates and people names which you could hear later anyway", just opinion of government or Propaganda. You literally must not know anything about world that doesn't support you country government point of view. Same for your teacher: "Not allowed to know". Lessons should make you proud of your country and being a part of your society not a kosmopolite. Or how would they rule you if other countries wouldn't be a far mysterious, barbarian enemies. The same thing happens in any country.
For example we in Russia didn't learn every single USA presidnet, how many dynasties were in China, who was certain premiere in UK at a time, or idk even what else i shouldn't know. Literature that you read in scholl, science etc. aren't the same.
Every country have position "We are leaders! We are powerfull! We are good! And we must rule the world!" kinda. )
