Hey man, idea instead of the cup thing. Go online and get a tackle box with the individual separators. Save space and you could get a LOT more to metamorphosis at once!

@@argonianaccount1876 a tackle box would be very expensive. If could create the tackle box effect or maybe hexagons on the inside than I think that be the best way to save space technically.
But would have to create the walls of the “tackle” box for at a great cost reduction.
100 cups are 6$ and I think that’s free shipping.
Tackle box would give you way less space right? Unless I’m kind of ignorant on tackle boxes so maybe theirs ones with thousands of spaces or at least hundreds at a cheap rate?

Hi from the USA here thanks for the video. I'm going to be doing this next week. Little tip, if you want to put the superworms in easier, you could sift them through the bark using some sort of strainer, and then moving the bugs themselves into the oats in one go.

You can stack 5-10 egg crates in a plastic bin and just pop your morio worms in and leave em in there without food or water and that would get them to pupate. That's what I do and it works well for me. I usually put about 500-1000 superworms in and wait for about 17 days to collect the pupa to put them in a self-sorting stackable plastic bins. And for my substrate I use commercial pig pellets and for the bottom bin I use chick booster crumbles and it only take 2 months for me to harvest. I guess I'm more of a cheapskate. And because chicken and pig pellets mold, I use a plastic dish for their leafy greens and veggies. 😂 but I love your videos! Keep making them! You're awesome!

Seen a similar vid for meal worms. They cut a section out if the top tray, then hot glued fie mesh over the hole. That way the small worms/eggs fell through into the middle tray.

Ya I’m wondering if superworm babies are too big compared to mealworms

  • @NotSoCrazyNinja
    @NotSoCrazyNinja 3 года назад +3

I don't know much about these superworms and the beetles, but based on what I have learned looking into them, it seems best to keep the pupae separated until they turn into beetles to prevent the early beetles from eating the late beetles. Also, that tray at the top is probably not going to hold those beetles if they decided to escape.
That being said, I think I know the perfect containers for this. My local dollar store sells plastic "shoeboxes". They are a good size, come with a good fitting lid, and stack very well. I have some shelving and I use these plastic shoeboxes for storage. I can fit three high and four wide onto one shelf. A pack of five of these plastic shoeboxes in my area runs for about $5.

Does that sound like it could save a bit of effort on my part, or do you see an issue coming of that technique possibly?

Tip for lazy people - use a reptile poop scoop to separate out the worms from the bedding they arrive in :) a flour sieve also works, but I’ve found the metal mesh reptile scoops are best and the worms don’t stick to it as much! Any old sheds in the mix, just hold over a bin and blow gently on them and they’ll just fall out :)
Obviously have a separate scoop for just sorting mealworms btw, don’t use the same one as for cleaning your reptiles!!

Few questions. Do you have to replace the oats regularly? Or just add top up what you already have in the bins? Also, how long can you use the same set of beetles for? Do you have to continually produce more beetles, or can the same set of beetles keep producing more eggs over and over again? Lastly, what would the smallest number of beetles you'd want to have laying eggs? If I pupated 10 superworms into beetles, would that be enough to get started? Hail and Good Morrow!
I really liked your presentation, so I have subbed and hit the 'all' bell!
Hopefully you don't mind me suggesting that you spend 20 quid on a decent Lapel Mic, so that you no longer sound like you're speaking from the back of a long tunnel! Your presentation is top notch, your post production is spot on, and so, having a good audio is the only thing lacking in allowing your audience to best incorporate what you are teaching us!
Thank you for the hard work, the knowledge, and I look forward to watching more of your educational presentations!
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY, USA
PS. Stay safe amidst this Viral Conundrum! I suffer from Malignant Congestive Heart Failure Class 3, along with COPD and Asthma (along with a multitude of other serious health issues), so am looking to create a reliable capital generation paradigm, as I haven't been able to work since Nov. 13 last year. My main clientele will be fishermen; as here in Wyoming we have some seriously imprtant Blue Ribbon Rivers and lakes which provide excellent fishing opportunities for German Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Cuttbows (crosses between Rainbows and Cutthroats), along with Walleye, Bass, etc. Some folks here even like to hook into a Carp once in a while (they are considered 'trash' fish and only used for crawdad bait) for the fight.

Good luck with the virus. I would really like to use a lapal mic however I film and edit on my phone and I don't know how to add in audio from an external mic . I can plug in the mic but that sounded worse when I did originally try that

      @@NORTHERNEXOTICS
      Hey there!
      Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I'm hip on audio issues; I'm an OLD time recorder (reel to reel is what I used a lot, as well as cassette, so that ought to give you an idea of what I mean when I use the term 'old'), so I've had my share of hardware/software problems.
What I would recommend is for you to spend some time, once you're allowed to roam free again AFTER we get a handle on the virus (and we will, as we've done before), is to go to 2nd Hand Shops (after calling them to see if they're still in biz and ask after inventory) and brow beat them on various mics they may have (getting them to drop prices).
Use your cell phone to do a little research on site when you find a mic or three, checking to see what kind of mic it is (wide field, narrow field, mixed range, accurate distance count-max recording range/optimum recording range, dynamic, etc.).
My point is that the mic you tried might NOT have been a good fit for your phone hardware and/or software: one size does NOT fit all!
Further, which post-production editor do you use again? Some p-p editors are ok, some are good, and some are great at audio mixing, some are abysmal.
It all has to 'mesh' in order for you to get your desired result; HOWEVER, it IS worth the effort! A good mic can really 'punch up' your content because of background noises that will intrude on your voice and hence your words, precluding us viewers from getting the full benefit of what you are trying to teach us.
Anywho...didn't mean to be this long winded (to which I have a truly BAD penchant!), just wanted to offer up some alternatives for you.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content and learning as much as I can; being crippled up and in seriously ill health, I need to create SEVERAL finance/income streams that I can physically do, because my days as a Computer Hardware Field Tech are fast coming to an end......the spirit is willing, but the flesh really DOES SUCK!!

I really appreciate your knowledge regarding audio. It's something I've played with but just not gotten a grip off to well. I use kinemaster as an editor

    • @jrbailey3208
      @jrbailey3208 4 года назад +1

      @@NORTHERNEXOTICS
I'm not familiar with 'kinemaster' (now that you have cited it, I remember seeing your citing it in the videos, in the upper right hand corner as well.....I apologize for not remembering) is it a UK software, or a YT software? Free or paid version?
I'm going to start posting Vlogs myself on my channel, the main theme being that even cripples can engage successfully in life, daily projects, within the scope of the pain and limitations we face.
I live in the Oil Patch, which is Open Range lands (yes, just like in the Western film with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall); I've got 800 pound to 1200 pound Black Angus cattle feeding on the sidewalk along the fence line eating weeds and greens, as well as in my garden area (which I encourage for the free fertilizer the Girls leave behind).
Sadly, the idiots running the small town that is 1.25 miles down the road (the main part of town) think that having chickens makes us look 'too Hick', but having 800-1200 lb Black Angus beef running around through town (and rubbing up against cars/trucks when they have an itch they need scratched) is fine and dandy (and I love having the Girls around). Go figure.
I did want to let you know about another revenue stream I'll be engaging in, once I sell my house here and relocate to Alaska (this year is my goal): raising Jumbo Coturnix Quail to sell as meat and eggs.
You can do this in an apartment, and they start laying 8-10 weeks after they hatch. They are bred for Cage Life and there are Cage System specifically designed for small space engagement.
You should check your area markets to see if they sell quail eggs, and if so, for how much. You can also grow a Fodder System in your place to supplement your commercial feed to them, which improves the quality of the eggs and provides a 4 to 1 higher yield on protein dollars spent (no foolin).
Anywho, just wanted to let you know about that, as I believe Bus Drivers in the UK are NOT paid what they should be paid, as well as children costing a LOT of money to raise, even as a part time custody dad!
By the by, I LOVED the attitude of your boy in that one video....wanting to help dad and actually LISTENING to what you had to say about his movements and then adapting to your instructions!
You've got a sharp kid there!
Take care and I look forward to your other videos..........because I intend on raising a variety of insects THIS YEAR for revenue raising ('Move' is not only a nasty four letter word, it is EXPENSIVE, especially when needing to relocate appx 2300 miles!).
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY, USA
