I was hoping Maya Sandu would win outright. I hope the EU will send poll watchers to the elections. Russia just can’t stand to see its former captive nations go their own direction which has overwhelmingly been West and not East. Instead of self-reflection as to why this might be they look outward for who to lay the blame on and undermine the country’s choice.

And, of course, unmentioned quietly in the background is Romania's actions in support of Moldovan accession. Like being Moldova's major energy supplier. And other joint projects, like the development and integration of Port Guirguilesti into the Lower Danube Transportation Hub. Good long term investments worth more than Russia's cash on hand.
