  • A first look at the Beechcraft Model 17 "Staggerwing" made by Carenado in Microrosoft Flight Simulator. It's a great little aeroplane, and good value for money too! For this interested, this test flight took place at Boonville in the US.

    The staggering is great in VR. It is very well detailed and it flies great. It’s cool when you stick your head out the window with VR goggles on. The strut right in front of the view is annoying but if you click on it you could remove it.

    Hi... "Pioneer" airplane designs were most beautiful.... I love old airplanes. :)

    I love this plane and purchased it as I love the Deco style of the era. What a beautiful plane. It lacks an autopilot which I wish they would just add for the sim. I know it wasn't in this model. One of my Piper planes added an altitude hold when there really wasn't one. This would help is you are on a long cruise.

      I would also like to see an autopilot added for the sim in Carenoado's C195 Businessliner, to make it a bit easier if you are on a long cruise, as you are saying.

      You can modify the config files to add autopilot :)

      @@jonbeckett I am yours truly Nick, a subscriber, but to tamper with the config files to add an autopilot ... as a scientist, and confident sim pilot, I must confess that, given your challenge, my mind is flying to the edges of our universe where, as the poet says: "to the star that has just dawned upon us/it's such a long way/ that thousands of light years were needed/ for the light/ to reach us". Just a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc here, cheers Jon!

    Gorgeous airplane. Looks very similar to one I had the pleasure of flying in a couple times in my youth. My father and uncle owned one for a while back in the early 80's. Wish that was still in the family!

    Aircrafts of MSFS, Asobo or Carenado ones, for what's concerning 3D are simply stunning. A shame they have no opening doors etc etc, but 3D model is perfect. The problem at this point is .... wich one to buy... because the offer is so huge, with new ones coming every month, not because money but because to fly all of them you need time! With the recent sales I have buy a dozen airports in UK (I love the retro airports of the britons) and several aircrafts (Kodiak 100, Rans Coyote, AN2, RV14, RV10, Bristell....) but now I have to use them! Not to mention the huge number of wonderful free and pay airports.😁😂😃

    Oh, I forgot as I haven't flown this plane in awhile. The plane has 5 fuel tanks. Two with the top gauge. When empty, you point it down and use the bottom gauge for the three remaining tanks. I use that digital gauge and switch tanks at or before - 11.2 gallons used or 47 remaining, 21.7 used or 36.5 remaining 32.2 used or 26 remaining.

  • @Squirel

    I enjoyed this plane in P3D and the only reason I haven't picked it up for MSFS is the lack of an autopilot. I know in the real world it doesn't have one but being a sim pilot I sometimes have to leave the desk. I have also found that all tail draggers in the sim prefer a very shallow final approach so that they basically "slide" onto the runway. Thanks heaps for the video, I might have to go and check it out in the market place.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  Год назад +1

      Yeah - it's hard work on a longer flight. You do realise you can add an autopilot by modifying the config file, right? It won't appear, but the keyboard bindings will work :)

  • @dillank3240
    @dillank3240 Год назад +1

    The levers on the right hand panel (it's not a door) are selectors for the various fuel tanks. I think there are 5. It's a little complicated.
    There is no tablet.
    I really like this aircraft.

    Excellent demo as ever - and an absolutely gorgeous model! The name "Staggerwing" rang a bell. A few years ago I did a 3D model of a thing called the Snow Cruiser - a polar exploration vehicle from the late 30's - you can see more about that here:
    ruclips.net/video/pW0eZRoQ86g/видео.html
    The Snow Cruiser carried a Staggerwing on its roof, with skids instead of wheels. Challenging flying conditions indeed!
    Hope you're feeling better - the rum treatment sounds about right!

    Have you tried the Beech 18? Just as beautiful as the 17, a wonderful cabin and it's fun doing aerobatics in something that size. My favourite of the Famous Flyers/Legends aircraft.

    Great review, Jonathan....she's a gorgeous aircraft!
    That said, did you have any sort of issue with the throttle backing out on its own with either of these? On the tarmac, interior view, release the p/brake, throttle up and just about the time the tail lifts, I lose power and I can watch the throttle lever backing down all on its own. I remapped the throttle on the V1F yoke/TQ and checked that it was accepting correct input and it showed that it was (on an axis, reverse unchecked). I thought perhaps it had something to do with locking the tail wheel as the Beech has a working lock and it made no difference. Cleared my rolling cache to make sure the previous faults were cleared. Brought up the Stearman and under the same controller profile, things worked just fine. I DID check in the "assistance options" to make sure that nothing got enabled by maistake, no anomolies. I did email both Carenado and Lionhart but haven't heard anything back yet...ideas? Thanks and keep up the great work! 👍

      @@jonbeckett yes I have a lot of them, but for some are not avalaible or they have a different powerplant etc etc. I would pretend, with a payware, that they do at least a PDF with the mayor info, like Just flight, as an example,do. Aircraft differs ftkn a veddikn to anotger and it eoild be interessant to know wich one they have modelled.

    I love this aircraft, unfortunately I don't fly with it that much because of the landing physics, even at a very low speed bounces off the runway like all Carenado tail draggers, I'm not a pilot but based on a bunch of videos with real pilots, carenado doesn't have the landing physics right

    • @jonbeckett
