Something that I have found to be incredibly helpful is hearing "someone who drowned in 7 inches of water is just as drowned as someone who drowned in 7 feet of water." It sort of helps me remember that even though that we can tell ourselves that someone always has it worse, or harder - it doesn't mean that you also don't have it hard. Your struggles are just as valid and deserve to be heard. Also, your struggles are much worse than someone else's. It goes both ways.
You have worked incredibly hard for what you have achieved, and you continue full force, constantly. I'm always in awe of how much you are able to get done and to the quality you do it to. You've been doing it for years, and I hope that you are both incredibly proud of the work you've done, but that you also feel like you have earned a break.
I've always been inspired and proud of the work you've done. I'm an adult, I completely understand when things don't go right, need delays, or anything that may change. I'll be happy to support throughout. : )

I appreciate your honesty. I have different opportunities from you with their own challenges and I am definitely still learning balance and finding joy in perseverance that gets me to the next good moment in time. :) I think it's worth remembering (even if not in the moment) that struggle gives us more empathy. It doesn't make it feel any better, but it ultimately can help us become more human toward others. Thanks for the video, Jazza. Let's hang in there together with everyone else who's also in a state of persevering.

"A dream job, is still a job" When you first start, you are working for your passion. But when you get what you want, then sometimes it no longer is a passion, it's a job. That's the truth of it. When we hit that wall, we have to figure out how to turn it away from a job, and stoke that fire and make it a passion again. Blessings to you, may you again fire up that passion.

Darling, the image you put out there is one of a human being who has bad days and good days, days of amazing inspiration, and some lesser. You're an amazingly creative young man and a hell of an artist. You're an Aussie and it's good to see you owning up to emotions and periods like this - most Aussie blokes try to survive in "she'll be right" mode.
I was a performer, and some gigs were amazing and some were mediocre energy and depressing, but the "show must go on" mentality kicks in and the audience usually doesn't notice. But afterwards, the performer NEEDS to crawl into a quiet room, turn off the lights and sit alone, quietly, just for a little while. Been here for years and care about you. xx

Since 2017 ive broke my back 3 times once due to trauma twice due to illness (the late time was 19 days ago and all I did was sit up and my t10 blew) each time your videos have helped me esp as the way I have to lay means I can't do arts or craft. You keep my imagination going. You also help me with ur main channel vlogs n table time role play when I'm just dealing with my everyday illness that limits me and causes me pain. And I thank you for that but never think I at least don't realise ur human and u go through what life throws at us. If a vid pops up that's great a highlight and distraction. If you don't post I hope ur OK and taking care of urself. Its a two way street, as much as u love entertaining, teaching and helping us. I hope we provide something to u to to help u carry on knowing we support u and wish the best for you.

Jazza I just started reading the book "slow productitvity" and in the very beginning it introduces a story of a writer who spent two weeks of work hours staring up at the sky trying to figure out his article and it ended up being one of the best of his career because of that two weeks that he spent doing "nothing". The pressure that you have with family and employees depending on you to be creatively productive always is massive and those of us who love watching your videos appreciate your vulnerability in being honest about it. I think that this video is wonderful, but it also probably would be wonderful and very helpful to other people in creative fields for you to show the process of how you are learning to recharge and what recharging looks like for you. This kind of content is valuable too, not just your wonderful art ❤

J-DAWG... music. You're a freakin' multi-modal autodidact. You're stuck in a script you're writing. You can change it up. Music brothah. You've got a voice, change it up. Get into vocal training, and atmospheric world building. Multi-modal... you love character creation, and world building. Sound design, atmosphere... fuggin, video game design... Unity is almost as easy as lego... Branch out, coding is poetry in another language. It's just expression.
Honestly, the energy you've been bringing to this lately is infectious. It's been helping me through my own struggles. I'm sorry to see the raw emotion, not because I feel it's disingenuine, but because it mirrors the cracks I see appearing in myself. I'm not sure if Neuro-divergence is your story. But for me, having to mask my whole life, and finally breaking because of it. It takes a while to find yourself again. On the outside, people see the same guy, just going through a little struggle. On the inside, it's pure self doubt and chaos. Who am I supposed to be right now? Who should I answer to? I've lost my voice... It's hard to get it back, y'know? And once the mask falls, it's because it doesn't fit anymore. But trust me. it was only an internal construct.
Meh, what do I know? . ;) I see a shiny person who's light is flickering, like a star. Not fading.

Something I read years ago: "Saying that you can't be unhappy because others have it worse is the same as saying that you can't be happy because others have it better." A similar sentiment: "This isn't the Oppression Olympics."
Another thought: ADHD brains need novelty, and no matter how creative your work is, when you master the skills involved, the novelty goes away. For many of us with ADHD, that situation becomes torture, in a very real way. It's something we often can't explain to others, but just because it's hard to put into words doesn't mean it's not real. Given what you do and how you do it, i wouldn't be surprised if that was part of what you're running into.

    • @lurklingX
      @lurklingX 6 месяцев назад +2

another vote for ADHD brains stuff. monotony will kill you. a set pattern for too long will do this as well. fortunately, and IF you give yourself the time.... you can do stuff away from work that is novel to mix your life up and stimulate. this could be altering the order in which you do things, like get up, do a walk or run, then coffee, then whatever get ready for work, vs sleep till last second.
it could be starting something new that also benefits the body/brain and has a challenge to it. like weight training. (any exercise helps ADHD brain. as does BEING OUTSIDE, and NATURE, and sunlight. it's proven.) so taking a walk outside on a lunchbreak can do this. maybe you take up an outside of work challenge, like rockclimbing, dancing, whatever. challenge your comfort zone. learn an instrument or a language. you need topics or activities to delve into, and get that hyperfocus. it gives you a break from monotony and can really charge you up.
sameness, staleness, monotony.... leads to unproductivity, depression, etc. it grinds everything to a halt. it.... sucks.

Thank you for sharing the framework! I’ve been severely disabled since June last year and have finally learnt why. I have functional neurological disorder, which can kind of be summed up as running too hard for too long and not ever recharging, until my brain glitched. My work is as lived experience educator and advocate in disability and mental health, often with family carers. Now when I talk about how important it is to stop and take care of ourselves I have living proof of just one reason why!

You absolutely need those times of "recharge"! I once heard someone call it 'filling the well'. If you don't fill the well, you have nothing to draw from. Especially in our society, easy to get caught up in the myth of being strong, of being able to carry everyone, support everyone, to be ceaselessly productive, but it depletes you. Eventually, as you have realized, you become empty, you feel drained and everything is a struggle. Believe me, I've been there! Sometimes you have to rest, even just sleep, and let everything take care of itself for a day, even if it feels like it will fall to pieces without you. Trust me--it won't.

Some videos are hilarious, some videos aren’t my thing because of the subject, but you’re a guy that shares what’s on his mind and that what makes it interesting. You’re human 🤷‍♀️ and yes, I’m one of those who needed to hear it…but instead of ‘let’s keep going’ I’d say: I’m gonna recharge now. 😌

  • @jamisenjohansen
    @jamisenjohansen 6 месяцев назад +1

Thank you for your words. It's always nice to hear people talk about the behind the scenes emotions. I was just working on my own project, while going through some difficult emotions myself. I experienced that "show must go on" moment, where I would try my best to be at my best, and perform well for the camera, but then inbetween shots I would be crying; dealing with c-ptsd triggers and depression. And then there's the stress of constant unforeseen interruptions, despite choosing the best time to record at. As a creative, we always only want to do something fun and playful when we feel that spark of inspiration or excitement; but we're also very in tune with our feelings, and at times our emotions can overwhelm us, and make it extremely difficult for us to perform at the time we planned to perform. And I struggled with the thought of "the show must go on" thing, because I never ever wanted to fake an emotion or put something aside that is serious and painful, but having creativity as a job means that I've got to set aside that depressed mode for a moment to embrace that joy I always wanted to embrace. It's not about not addressing sadness, but to make the time to heal, as best as you can, to turn those low moments into replenishment mode, instead of high stress mode. What I've done when I'm feeling off for the day, like if I just can't speak or remember lines or am too flustered to perform in front of a camera, is to only do the behind the scenes or non-performance tasks on those rough days; so I'm still working, but I'm doing less stressful things when I'm overwhelmed, so I can spend part of that day recharging and healing. One benefit of having creativity as a job, is that you can shift your work modes with your emotions; spend one day on camera performances if you feel theatrical, spend another day on technicalities and formatting if you're feeling more logical; we can group tasks together to fit our moods, but we always have to remember the job isn't all life is, and to focus on our mental and physical need for rest and comfort.

Something that I think that many people forget (partly due to how the algorithm works and partly just because of how society is) is that you don’t owe us (your viewers) anything, we owe you.
You are already giving us your time, your energy, your talent, and just like any other kind of business or service provider you get paid in return.
The fact that you get paid for your work doesn’t obligate you to keep providing more and to go above and beyond. You are already enough, just you… the highs and the lows and everything in between.
We don’t want or need you to work until you break, just being yourself and sharing that with us is plenty. You deserve the success you’ve achieved. You deserved it from your very first video and you still deserve it now.

I know exactly how you feel, at the age of 32 I decided I want to start drawing again. And fulfill my life long dream of making cartoons, I either can't get motivated to start, or when I do I get distracted and lose focus. Or when I do find the motivation and get in to a groove, I start to second guess myself and start comparing my work to other peoples then I give up. All that being said I want you to know that you are not alone, and that you are a huge inspiration to many people including myself. You are a HUGE reason I started drawing and found my passion again & for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Honestly hearing Jazza say he's not proud of a drawing really hit a chord. I've thought he always accepts a project even if it is not the best. This I guess comes down to the image shown to the world. Since I read Paper Towns by John Green, I've always liked an idea in it. Paper People. The idea that we only see others as an image not as a living breathing being. Where people show their cracks and their weaknesses, it reminds us we are all human and allows us to see more of the "real" person underneath.

Personally, I would LOVE to see the “fails” for two main reasons, one is I’m curious to how much I’ll like what an artist I like considers a fail, and two, because it’s actually quite encouraging, to be reminded that even successful artists struggle sometimes.
But I also find laughing at the absurdity and frustration quite cathartic. Takes the power away and makes it feel less of a waste? And it makes the wins more meaningful.

Hang in there Jazza! As a content creator myself, I truly understand and relate to your burnout. Spend time with your family and away from your channel for a while and then, come back to it. You will feel refreshed and re-energized.

*raises hand when he said someone might need to hear this* I totally resonate with this sentiment. Towards the end of last year and carrying through to this year have had some massive lessons for me. Physically, mentally and spiritually and I too have had to try and rewrite and rethink how I do things. Thank you for sharing and being vulnerable which I'm sure isn't easy but I for one very much appreciate the candidness. Keep up the great work that you do and over see

I really appreciate you sharing this & am happy to hear that you're working on it. It's obvious the amount of hard work you put into your job & you absolutely deserve rest. We love the content you give us but your health is far more important. I honesty don't know how you do what you do. I really think you're sooo much stronger than you give yourself credit for ❤

I appreciate the open honest perspective you bring to videos like this. I'm sure a lot of people excited about content creation see the past success, big studio, staff and the few highly edited minutes of video each week and are (rightfully) inspired. It would be dangerous then to completely gloss over the hardship, struggles and moments of burnout that come with the lifestyle which anyone embarking on a similar journey needs to be prepared for. Thank you for sharing.

    This game dev stuff.....
Went horse ride with my wife....
    Went away to the city....
    Long weekend....
Do more of these. Take care of yourself. Enjoy time with your family. It's self care. Creativity needs to be fed and it doesn't if all you do is grind. Human brains need a vacation from time to time.

Thanks so much for taking the risk to share so honestly, Jazza...each time you have, each time you do. I feel like we, all of us, need more of this in our lives. And I believe that being vulnerable is a way of leading. Vulnerability, honesty, and strength...to do the work we need to, to ask for help when it's the best next step. What a beautiful, conscious way to live life. 🙏

As someone who needed to hear this today, thank you for being real. Thank you for all the heart you put in all your videos, not just the "personal" ones. Your love for the arts is inspiring. It has certainly had an impact on my sons, who absolutely love watching your stuff, laughing and joking about it for days, but also reinvigorated in their own love of art. Your videos have been a refuge of joy on the hard days, and a igniting fire on the good ones. I'm sorry your are stuck in a tough place at the moment, and I pray that after all the times you've blessed my boys and I through such moments, you'll find something or someone to give you that little lift you need.

Thank you. ❤ The struggle, the grind, the toll is real. Engineering student here, and I'm struggling with this too. Gets frustrating when I'm in a state were I'm staring at all the work and have no motivation or energy to complete a task to my standards. You're doing great Jazza. I've been watching you since I was 12, and you have always been an inspiration to me in your honesty and creativity. Thank you for all those tips and tricks and inspiring pieces of content thru out the years ❤.

I am sure I speak for others when I say I appreciate your honesty, and that helps me a little bit every day whenever I see you or other content creators who put themselves out there in the public eye. I can sympathise, but not empathise as our lives our very different. I spread myself too thin in a previous role to help others and 5 years on, I still have a black dog and no full time job. What is it that they say, put your oxygen mask on yourself before others. Every so often my brain helpfully reminds me of the Stevie Smith poem, Not Waving but Drowning. Its ok to ask for help and more important to prioritise your own health. It might not pay the immediate bills, and I'd patreon you if I could, but you have a large family who care for you. Take care of yourself.

You are being real and honest. Struggles happen with everyone and it is important to let people know that no matter how successful you are, the struggles continue. And while you may not have to work 2 jobs to keep the roof over your head, you're faced with the responsibility as an employer to several others. Those people are your friends and important to you. So your concerns are as legit as anyone else.

You Inspired me….YOu done good, for me and many others, and it will continue.. Struggle is relative to one individual to another but the struggle effect is the same at the end of the day.
I was in a car accident 10 years ago that totally destroyed me professionally and personally. I’m 55 now and without your contribution a few others through RUclips I wouldn’t have reinvented myself and found professional purpose as a creator.
THank you. Thank you a billion times to infinity. I am sure I am not alone.

It's okay to recouping from time to time. Creativity don't just appear from thin air - takes time energy and motivation. (producing, producing..).. It's good to take a step back, or two. Reflecting on that with the camera is what we - the RUclips audience, like to see as well: your journey, the real process*, the ups and the downs. Michelangelo didn't paint the Sistine chapel after 20min or two days, and also he experienced some bumps, right..? So don't be too hard on yourself.
*As some artist once said: "trust the process" and I think that include the garbage that ends up in the bin as well.
I know you and your team/channel create epic stuff. week after week. You have inspired me since 2018, perhaps even earlier, and right now I'm trying to improve my alcoholic marker-work. Do you think I'm happy with my result?! No!.... Because I always comparing it with my head-image...that's almost always better. That's why it's called Fantasy. It's not real until it is. But we're getting there... ;) ... and when we do ... Magic happens., and the creation suddenly lasting for years as a talking-piece. So... give yourself: TIME

Jazza, you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs because you are as honest as you are talented and hardworking. You're also human which means you have your own struggles as well as triumphs. You're allowed to keep your self-care routines but putting pressure on yourself to the extreme doesn't feel healthy. It can keep you on your toes but I think a better focus would be to trust yourself. You are hardworking and you care about your work and the people you work with. I'm sorry if this is long but I want you to remember that your community is here for you. You're doing wonderful. Everything around you is proof. 🎉😊

What a timely message! Thank you for sharing this! I'm a HUGE fan of college wrestling. Last week was the NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships. The end of the tournament is the end of the season. While I have a favorite team, I also like a few wrestlers on other teams. The emotions for wrestlers, coaches, and fans during this time are all over the place. One minute you're celebrating a win, and the next your heart is broken by a loss. After the tournament a photographer I follow has been posting some pictures on Facebook. One in particular caught my attention and made me cry. I don't know who this young man is or what school he wrestles for, but you could tell he recently lost a match. It can be difficult for people in the public eye like RUclipsrs and athletes to talk about their struggles for many of the reasons you shared. I'm sharing this in the hopes that some of my followers watch it, and it encourages them to talk to someone when they're struggling.
