Your channel is where I discovered things 3 and I’ll always be grateful for it! I also had adhd and had near given up on todo list apps till I found this one and years later I’m still happily using Things 3! I love it so much it has really changed and become a huge part in my life. If something isn’t in that app it simply doesn’t get done. Sometimes I can get overwhelmed with how granular I get, but it’s better for me to track more items than less items. Having a reminder date separate from a deadline date is so so key, I also love being able to add emojis to projects. the big update id love to see is collaboration, working with others it would be great if I could even get things 3 for my personal assistant so that tasks could be shared (or even a web view). But my perfect productivity trifecta has been Things 3, Fantastical and Milanote. Thanks again!
I absolutely loved this video Chris. I’ve been on the fence for ages now about switching to Things as I’ve never had the time to fully get into going through every little nook and cranny. But following you step by step with how you set yourself up, allowed me to follow and set my own path up to use it. Downloaded it on the iPad as well. Definitely worth the $29.99, along with Fantastical, im all set!
I love the look of Things3 and used it for years, but the lack of ability to adjust text size, lack of attachments, and no location-based reminders just makes it way too inferior when compared to Apple Reminders. I really wish Cultured Code would update this app and add some basics. Text size adjustment is a basic accessibility feature; there's no reason it shouldn't be a feature! I would LOVE if Things3 would sync (not import from but actually sync) with Apple Reminders, similar to how GoodTask does. That would be awesome.
Interesting to hear this as I have been considering Things 3, thanks! When I am looking to purchase an app I always look at the website, particularly the blog page if there is one, and also at Twitter, Facebook, etc., accounts to see if the company is actively engaged with users and excited about what they are doing. Cultured Code is not posting much at all in any of these places for months. This gives me pause. Of course, they could be busy writing updates for the app I suppose, but why not talk about it. Chris this is a great video and I am now a subscriber. Thanks for this!
@@Boog555 Yes, that is another thing - the developers have been very silent about any improvements or additions and I think updates have been pretty sparse. Personally, I think Reminders is a superior app to Things3 at this point (and it's free). It's packed with features AND it can sync with a number of other apps. I use it with both Fantastical and GoodTask. Goodtask is a wonderful, highly-customizable way to make apple reminders more powerful. The developer is active and really responsive too.
My dream Task Manager is the look-n-feel of Things 3 with the functionality of Todoist. I used Things 3 for a year, but a month ago transitioned to Todoist. Compared to Todoist, Things 3 is missing the ability to attach files and comments (separate from the general text area), and I frequently use this functionality.
Things 3 UI is great. Very easy to understand and simple to use. Love the animations and fluidity as well. Plus this app is one time payment and not a subscription model. Thats a major plus point.
For the Someday section, I find it quite interesting to use as a standalone Notes area. These Someday tasks will never pop up on the Upcoming but still stays wherever Areas of Projects you put it into. If need to pull it all up, just visit the Someday tab again.
Have you done or would you consider using just apple notes, Calendar& reminders for a period of time and post your findings. I find for me apples stock (free) apps do everything I need. But always looking to improve in my use of them.
I love this video; I really like how you have a system for your task manager app. I just recently implemented that, and it makes a difference in how I approach my days with higher purpose and motivation to get things done.
As another ADHD, Love this video and how cute you are handling all this so much. 🎉🎉🎉 Definitely looking forward to more this type of task management sharing, especially from an overall life management perspective, in addition to such app specific application.
It would be interesting to see where your overlap is between Things 3 and Airtable? Do you have projects in Things 3 but also in Airtable... or do you only use Airtable for the “bird's eye view” of all projects and their status, but plan the specific tasks in Things 3?
A (for me big) question: at 4'10" we see the layout of the domain "Personal": on the right, you have the domain-title, then the list of projects and then: how do you manage to display the "Today's" tasks and the "Upcoming" tasks here? I cannot figure it out but I would so much be able to have this feature... thank you for your answer!
I have Things on my phone. The Mac OS app is an additional $50. Does it do anything that my phone won't do? Additionally, Siri support has been enable for Things, however, when asking siri to do something in Things, she doesn't have a clue
I wondered what the shortcut set up you use for laundry is? I’m thinking of something similar but one that is used for things like bathroom cleaning etc.
When should I use projects and when do I need to use areas. Honestly I’m using projects just because areas has no headlines, hence the view in todays views won’t be split and organised. As well as the area itself won’t be organised. I have things such as lets say: Work routines that are repeated always. should this be an area or a project. currently it's a project that is under Area "Work" Lets say also my investments with reminders of due dates and end of contracts are under project "Investments" under area personal. should it have it's own area better?
I love things 3 but I just can't stick to it for longer than an hour - The text and checkboxes are too small - Only on Apple Devices - There's no way to set a time for a to-do, only a reminder - There's no sorting options besides manually dragging and dropping - Mac app is really expensive
Any work around for things putting things in a random order in the today view? I know you can set it to organise by areas/projects but my actual tasks always end up in a random order within those on the Today view, totally different to how they’re laid out in the project themselves?
Hi, there. Good video. Thx. I have a question. I have things and I have an Apple Watch. How do you automate making notes of ideas "on the fly" with your Apple Watch in things? I've tried, but failed.
Thx again Chris 👍🏻I always watch these and have taken away at least one tip and Shortcut after watching. I was using your shopping list shortcut and this video just reminded me to keep using it. I've tidied around a bit and will make sure I use it more. 😄Things 3 is so good and got better with your help and shortcuts.
Hey Chris, can you share how you pick up what you gonna do for Today? Because with a long list of areas and tasks, I kinda get overwhelmed sometimes on what to pick up for the day.
I run into the same exact issue. Before things 3, I used omnifocus for many years and even though it’s not as visually pleasing, i liked the was it only showed me what I needed to do each day. I’m sure I must be missing something or using Things 3 wrong?
Hi Christopher. For your Things TaskCut shortcut - If I would like to use this with a keyboard shortcut rather than having to go to the Apple shortcuts or a widget do you use something like "Keyboard Maestro" or similar. How did you do this when you were working on your mac? Thanks man 👍
How about your experiment with tracking? ("Research & Tracking" area) I see those lists are gone from your Things app since the last video. You didn't like it? What did you replace it with? Thanks for the video, very helpful!
You know, I commented a few weeks or months ago how I felt like you are making the same videos over again. I would like to take that back. You do seem to put a lot effort in your work and I appreciate your channel.
Thank you! Sometimes I do remake videos. That’s mostly because software changes. I want people to have videos with accurate information that reflects what will be on their devices. That being said I always try and make new stuff.
Which version are u using as i saw there are 2 ersions on iPad for it. One is Things 3 and other is Things 3 for iPad. Do i need to pay differently for iPad and iPhones ?
I have Structured. It’s beautiful & very useful due to many features, only thing is it doesn’t allow you to look at Monthly To-Do so this app could be great for recurring Habits or Daily Planning. Doesn’t let you add attachments but give you a folder to store non urgent Tasks with no specific dates. It also let you choose from a large selection of icons, adjust colors & permit time length + sub tasks in setting up new tasks.
Things 3 has an absolutely ridiculous pricing scheme, you need to buy the app for each device... If I want to have it in my iphone, ipad and mac, it will be $80 in total. It makes no sense. It is off the list.
2 questions- what is the verbal command to add a task to my Today section ( not inbox)? Second, can you direct me to your video that shows your new shortcuts since they "beefed up" their shortcuts? And a comment- thank you for what you do. I trust your opinions and they have helped me very much.
Hi, Christopher! Just wanted to tell that you create the most inspiring iPad tutorials on the whole RUclips! You’re so amazing - huge fan here! Thank you for all your hard work! I wanted to ask you a question - in one of your videos you briefly mentioned that you were able to create Split View windows preset on your iPad. Like, you can choose two or three apps, put them in a Split View in the way you like them to be set up and then save this Split View as a present in a form of little “app icon” that you can put in the dock or somewhere else. For the life of me I cannot find the video where you mentioned it and no one else on the internet seems to know about. I’ve spent a lot of time looking for any information about it and can’t find nothing. At this point I’m starting to believe it was all a dream… 😢 Would you consider making a video about it or maybe do you know where I could find any information about how to do it? Appreciate your time and again - thank you for all you do!
On Shorts, the ones you have done so far I think are good. I can imagine doing a Short could be a massive time sink. If I were to do Shorts, I'd probably focus on one important component of a bigger thing, especially if it's a hack outside the normal flow or something less obvious, like how and why you use Areas in Things 3 (and you could probably lift that from this video). Another might be recurring tasks and a montage of ticking them off for a few days - eh, that one might not work, but you get the idea.
Hi Christopher, I cannot get your 10% code for Scrintal to work. It says the code is invalid. Thanks for the video, I use Things and you have given me a few new ideas.
