I love Mussorgski's music, from his beatiful "Pictures from an Exhibition" to his magnificent "Boris Godunov"... for me the next will be "Khovanshchina"
Грандиозно, давно не видел такого основательного подхода в Большом. Надеюсь, во всем виноват ремонт - на новой сцене им сейчас явно тесно. Очень гармоничная опера, музыка Мусоргского гениальна и при этом понятна в действии оперы.
@PilarCanto Thank you very much for this comment! :) I would suggest you to start with "Evgeniy Onegon" by Tchaikovsky (more "western Russian" style compering to Musorgsky Operas). Then Look at "Khovanshchina" (Mussorgsky) - Heavy but great opera! And some Rimsky Korsakov stuff (Tsar's bride, May night - you can first look at the Uverturas of the operas here on youtube, as a "trailer" :) Enjoy!! :)) Dmitry
That came from the glorious days of Bolshoi, when it used to be one of the best opera companies in the world. In 2010 they toured to Madrid with a ridicolous and unlistenable male cast: Andrew Goodwin, Vassily Ladyuk and Alexander Naumenko , conducted by the EXTREMELY BORING Dimitri Jurowkski. Months after I saw this Boris and I cried of emotion and both of anger, since these times are history in today's Bolshoi.
