hi Scotty, I live in phoenix AZ we are like 110° degrees already 😣 I missed your live couple days ago.. I'm having A C problems with a 2006 grand cherokee 4.7. I've taken it to a couple mechanics but they all have different problems. one can't find a leak, there's no hissing and can't find a leak anywhere. the other 2 mechanics said that it's the discharge hose because it looses like 70 pounds of pressure in a couple of seconds. you can see like oil residue on the hose.. any opinions would be greatly appreciated Scotty..

@@MrTarkus007 it's actually not as difficult as you think. I started tinkering more with my car and truck after years of taking them in for service. RUclips and various forums are a great way to learn.
The hardest part is diagnosing the problem like Scotty shows here. Sure, you're gonna need some tools, but that's to be expected. Compare the investment into some tools to a few shop visits. It's a no brainer.
A few years later, I've swapped alternators, power steering pumps, wheel bearings, lots of rotors and calipers, and the list goes on. Most things are very simple to change, it's just figuring out what's actually broken.

if it's in the red zone, NEVER add more refrigerant that just makes it worse. Pressure build up is often internal ac restrictions that require taking the system apart to flush and repair the restriction

just replacing the compressor is often a no no. they normally break because something else is wrong in the system, like a clogged condenser on that model which is common. Have any good ac guy hook up gauges and analyze the pressures.

Hey Scotty yeah my air was blowing nice and cold out here in DFW area. Then the car stopped on me and wouldn't start. Then I thought it was battery but two truck guy said, "it's full charged. Aint the battery." Then I saw your video about PCV Valve and the intake filter thing. I asked them to check it and air conditioner. But they said they did but I don't think they did. I was on frwy car went dead in traffic and started back up. They claimed they replaced the memory thing. Then today they said it was the air compressor that's causing the battery, and no power, gas to car. So They disconnected the air thing and told me the pulley or some belt was loose and could break at any moment,. I said just get it in writing. I would need to ask Scotty KILMER what he thinks is wrong and I will find a way to get it done on a GRAD students BUDGET in TEXAS. So far Scotty was right about the after market Ford SENSOR the same company wanted like 1800 for ONE Sensor. BUt i was like NOT.. let me talk to the forum and see what they suggest. So far my car has been GREAT. I keep it clean, oil changed, and I even put that stuff in it to GUARANTEE a pass on inspections you get a Walmarts. I found out about that on here and some other products. So If anyone knows how to go about getting best rate affordable for air conditon compressor. Let me know. I can't be riding in the heat. But I also know that somehow there can be a way to find someone here in my small town near FT WT. I wished I lived near Scotty. YOu are the BEST. Thanks so much for your awesome videos. I have so much fun watching these car mechanical videos. It's so much fun to sort of know what's wrong with car when you go.

Quick update... I meant 03 Corolla. Upon correctly searching 03 Corolla I determined there was a defective a/c relay in my make. Replaced the ac relay with the horn relay and like magic ac kicked in. I'll be hornless until my amazon purchase of $15 arrives next week.
Scotty, still appreciate the vids though!! :-)

you have a leak in the ac system, fix that first. That hot air is probably just the condenser fan blowing air around

THANKS for you reply! My A/C worked again! It was good all day long. Now it just stopped engaging again. It doesn't "click". That's the problem I been having. I don't hear a click or don;t see the clutch engaging. I feel like some switch or relay is bad?? Could that be right?

Many, many things were left out of this procedure. For starters, that compressor (a Denso 10PA), is one of the best around. Changing seals (shaft and body) will bring it back to life. You left the filter dryer out (no wonder why they'll come back to haunt you). You did not flush, and left all debris in. Vacuum is pulled from both sides. Those Robinair gauges, unless used, do not cost 50 bucks. 125 more likely. The only thing you are totally correct is about the rebuilt compressors.

I inherited a truck that blows hot air constantly in a '04 Chevy Silverado. I replaced the actuator behind the radio because I was told to do so but the next actuator immediately to the right occasionally starts loudly ticking. My Uncle believes it is the compressor but I am still concerned about the ticking actuator and the other two under the dash.

Scotty, I replaced the compressor, the dryer, the accumulator and recharged the system with the correct amount of refrigerant, the ac worked great for two days, now it once again blows hot air only, is this the blend door actuator, 2002 ford taurus pushrod engine?

08 VW Jetta - blowing warm air and low pressure was about 100. Lowered pressure and within normal ambient temp at this time. Fans were not working at the time but worked my way through the system and found the ECT sensor was bad. Changed that and fans work now but still blowing warm air. Compressor clutch appears to be engaged but couldn't get a voltage reading. Then if it is engaged why is it not blowing cold air. Low pressure around 50.

Scotty, Long time sunscriber and fellow Toyota fan here. The AC on my wife's 08 Kia Sportage V6 has been working some days and NOT AT ALL on other days. I took it tonthe dealer (on a day it wasnt working) and they said they couldnt get the compressor working at all. So they ordered one and quoted me 800 bucks. Now it is working again today! I wonder if there could be something else causing it to work intermittently and actually not need to replace the compressor? Thanks in advance if you should be able to see this and answer it.

Hi Scotty, I have a friend that owns a 2002 Honda Prelude and recently something went wrong with his AC. Whenever he turns it on, the car (engine, inside the car, everywhere) shakes violently and the air isn't as cool as it used to be anymore. He mentioned that he saw smoke coming out of some area under the hood of the car, but he wasn't sure where it was coming from. If you could help us out, that'd be great.
    Thank you.

I was informed that a compressor that clicks on and off rapidly is due to low freon. I checked the low pressure and it was good. What should I check next?
    2004 F-150 V8

    • @scottykilmer
      @scottykilmer  10 лет назад

you have to check both low and high pressures. Clicking on and off is also often a restriction in the system, making high side pressure too high, then the computer turns it off

    • @scottykilmer

dan deac that's to be safe, as water vapor contaminates them. BUT, vacuuming a system for an hour or so will cause the moisture to evaporate out of the system, making that unnecessary

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 4.7l. My AC worked great, now it just quit. It shows almost 150 on the "AC PRO gauge( in the red). Fuses are good, and the fan is spinning. Could this be my compressor? Can a shop relieve/capture the over pressure? Thank you very much for any info given. Happy Fathers day.
