I used to have one and I swear to you the first time I heard the sound system I teared up. Had a first gen ipod, all the pioneer high end stereos and hifi players and shit that Volvo was awesome.
OMG, i’m looking for one and i’m watching all B&W Volvo reviews on RUclips. Literally in every video the music sounds like it’s a added soundtrack in the video editor. The sound it’s so good, seems ireal to be a live recording. 😅
I still like to blast my old school 80's and 90's CD's in my 2017 XC90's Bowers & Wilkins system. It's the last year Volvo offered a CD player in their lineup. The CD's do sound great in my car despite the nicks and scratches on the discs.
One of the gripes I have with my S90are all the rattles. I can guarantee that noise you’re hearing is coming from the rear drivers side door. I have the same issue.
Ahhh. Bowers&Wilkins has the best quality highs in my opinion. Fantastic. You can listening to it loud and for a long time too, and it will not be tiring. I looove this sound system. It's s better choice especially for the money than the Audi RS6 B&O. Idk which one is better, M5 B&W or S90 B&W. What do you think Charlie? And... There is the new Peugeot 308, 3008 with focal and the new Tucson. 🙃☺️
Hey Charlie, which Volvo that you’ve tested has the best sounding and most powerful system? Thanks 🙏🏻 I’m looking to get a Volvo in the near future and tbh all I care about is the sound system lol
The mid-level Harman Kardon system is pretty good for the money. About 7.5/10ths as good as the Bowers and Wilkins. Great surround sound, flat frequency response with good clean deep bass reproduction below 50Hz. Lacking in Volume and overall mid/highs clarity + bass extension compared to the Bowers and Wilkins sound system.
330i is definitely going to bring more excitement. The current Volvo lineup is built around simplicity and calm cautious cruising. For those that just want a peaceful environment in an otherwise hectic world.
Thanks Charlie. The best ever sound system I have ever heard is Dynaudio in Volvo s80 2007 model. The most natural warm realistic dimensional system ever. The new system tend to be overprocessed and too mimic. In this new digital approach you hear more detailed sound but unfortunately not authentic and beautiful. Do you agree with me? Kind regards
Really was amazing listening to this with you, feel like the Maserati Quattroporte sounded similar but less good. Have you ever tried Tidal with Bowers & Wilkins?
Didn't get a chance to try Tidal in this one because I didn't want to pay for Tidal HiFi, but I changed my mind and signed up again, so I'll use Tidal for the upcoming Burmester test in the E450 for channel members.
Could you describe the sound of the S90 (no B&W, no Harman) the standard one? Does it have a dedicated bass? Does it sound good? Any upgrade you consider to it ?
Hi, from what I've been seeing, these 3 brands of car sounds are exceptional, but there's always a better one, which one do you think is better, you've tried them all. Bowers & Wilkins Bang & Olufsen Meridian Surround.
Man, that rattling noise from the bass is unacceptable. Otherwise, sounds great. I have horrible experiences with dealers diagnosing rattles, so that puts me off a little. Did you notice that while driving the car, or was it the microphone?
I agree 100%. One of my biggest complaints I have are the rattles. Rear door, headliner, seat belt fastener. And I keep nothing in my doors because rattles drive me insane.
Love it. Listening to it through my desktop speakers doesn't do it any kind of justice, however. I really wish they had a CD option, though. I have so many high-end CDs (Telarc, for example) that I would absolutely love to use. May have to consider how to install an aftermarket one... Thoughts, Charlie?
@@onlinealias622 just the new ones have a lot of problems? 2017-2022? I’ve owned a few earlier models, before and after the geely acquisition and have had an amazing ownership experience.
Why don't you play some rnb or rap music? I had B&W in my 7series G12 and it was great saying that instrument and classical music is where the stereo shine! Going to inspect potential Volvo s 99 buy will see how will perform.

Best audio system ever. Now its difficult to sold my v90 due to amazing sound.
Excellent review
What is the rattling noise when the bass plays
it may be the microphones

I think it's XC90. In the bowers review for the XC60, DailyMotor says the XC90 has a slightly better sound.
2 years late, but the X90 has a slightly better sounding system.
I have this sound system in my 2020 s90 volvo r design and it sounds great.
I bet Depeche Mode will sound great in this... NICE
Worth the price which we all paying so much... lots and lots of love from VOLVO... First of all thank you so much sir great review 💟☮️

Dose S90 and V60 Bowers &Wilkins are same sound? If not which one is better
Essentially, yes. 90 might be marginally better, especially because the sedan is a little quieter at speed than the more cavernous wagon.

Do you notice a big difference in subwoofer performance between Volvo models (i.e. suv vs wagons vs sedans or 60 vs 90)?
Not really I don't think. They all seem pretty darn powerful

Just rip the CD's to a .FLAC file and load them onto your phone/car, any CD reader should do.
First I was like it’s fine I guess but then I noticed it.
It’s better than theBMW X6 bowers & Wilkins?
Very well done
To whoever’s listened to this system in person, is the bass as good as it sounds in this video?
Bass doesn't sound good if the mid and high sound like crap. It's about the whole range of sound.
Really great sounding. Shame it's in a Volvo. Don't get why B&O and Harman have such average systems in cars that are at times more expensive.

good dynamic ranges
Only 2 in the center. 1 subwoofer in the back
It’s always funny how people can judge a car speaker through a phone’s speaker.
You're absolutely right!
What do you honestly prefer: the Volvo s90 b&w or the Toyota Avalon jbl ?
1000% S90. S90 is one of the best systems on the market. Avalon wasn't very good.
Avalon JBL isn't even half as good as the base S90 sound system, let alone the B&W.
Better than Mark Levinson for Lexus?

No the 23 speaker System 2400 Watt in the Lexus LS 500 is much better than the Bowers & Wilkins System in the Volvo S90.
