Remembered this masterpiece and still cant get over it and the fact that it was used as a prayer during our school assembly when i was in primary school till 3 - 4 th grade. Such a soulful song. My Grandad passed on Monday the 12 December at 85 years old this song will be played at his funeral next week as he was a keen sailor all his life that I've known him 😢
My grandad recently passed away he was a sailor too. I'm breaking my heart listening to this song as this will be his funeral song too. He passed when I was away on holiday he was the best. Rip pamps💔😭

I love this song but I can't perform it live. I've tried. I was singing and playing acoustic at a gig a few months back. Someone requested it. I got halfway through the second verse and tears were streaming down my face. I lost my wife to cancer three years ago. I wasn't prepared for these lyrics. It's an incredible song!

Many wont remember this as being the theme song used for a Royal Navy documentary called Sailor back in the mid 70's. However, it was this song combined with that doco that made me join the Navy when I was 15, I had the best life in the Navy and would do it again in a heartbeat if I could. :)
